Shontae Saldaña was born and raised in Sacramento, California. The multi-talented actress made her acting debut in the hit series Without a Trace (2005). She has appeared in various roles from a tough girl in Strong Medicine (2003-2005), to a boxer in the popular series Bones (2006), followed by a school teacher in Shark (2007). Saldaña continues to guest star in hit series such as Southland (2011), CSI: Miami (2010), and landed the role of Candice Lee in Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (2018). She also landed the lead role of Calliope in the popular YouTube Red post modern meta fictional murder mystery Escape the Night (2018). Saldaña has a national Cingular Wireless TV commercial credit that aired in Telemundo which is the second-largest Spanish-language content producer in the world.
Saldaña started taking acting classes in the sixth grade. Throughout high school she appeared in several stage productions. In 2002, she co-wrote, directed, and starred in an original production titled Thin Line Between Love and War which she performed at the 45th annual Lenaea Festival receiving front page recognition in the Scene Section of the Sacramento Bee newspaper. She continued on to become a Theatre Arts major at the California State University, Sacramento, appearing in numerous productions in the Playwrights Theatre. In 2003, she was featured in the front cover of El Hispano a popular newspaper that is distributed in the Sacramento metropolitan area and several other locations throughout Northern California, for her performance of Maria in Journey of the Sparrows. Saldaña has also studied under the Beverly Hills Playhouse, one of the nation's oldest and most respected acting schools. When she is not filming, Saldaña enjoys break dancing, salsa dancing, boxing, DJing (turntables), rapping, bar-tending, and script writing.
