Watch: Astonishing CG Animated Sci-Fi Short Film 'The Cloud Racer'
Image
"You flew fast. Mom would be proud." You have to watch this awesome short film titled The Cloud Racer - from director Joe Sill and his production studio Impossible Objects. This CG animated sci-fi short is a proof of concept and it's an exhilarating experience introducing us to the "next great race." Made entirely on the Unreal engine, it's an example of how far you can push visuals with any idea. A struggling outerling pilots his race-craft over the apocalyptic streets of future Los Angeles in a fierce aerial competition against the much better funded corporate teams, his trusted father (who also serves as his mechanic) by his side. Set in a desolate, demolished LA in 2055, the city is now known as "Ghost City". It's pretty much The Phantom Menace podracing scene but it also reminds of the Wachowskis' Speed Racer as well (which I still think is underrated). With performances by Heston Horwin,...

Rock Steady Row (2018)
'Rock Steady Row': Film Review | Slamdance 2018
Rock Steady Row (2018)
More akin to a contemporary Western than a typical college comedy, Rock Steady Row reimagines the university campus as a lonely outpost of civilization where outlaw frats battle for control and traumatized students try to avoid getting caught in the crossfire. Darkly humorous, the film’s offbeat storyline finds hope in the bravery and camaraderie of a few isolated rebels who dare to challenge the prevailing power structure. Backed by indie studio Gunpowder & Sky, Trevor Stevens’ stylish first feature should strike a chord with youthful audiences and genre enthusiasts alike.

Substituting bike theft for horse rustling, the film reveals the...

Slamdance 2018 Interview: Director Trevor Stevens Takes Us Into the World of Rock Steady Row
For Rock Steady Row, first-time feature filmmaker Trevor Stevens utilizes a collegiate setting for his post-apocalyptic mash-up that follows a freshman on his first day of school at Rock Steady University, where society has broken down and two fraternities wield all the power over both the student body as well as Rsu’s shrewd Dean (played by veteran comedic actor Larry Miller).

Rock Steady Row is set to debut today at the 2018 Slamdance Film Festival (which is being held in Park City, Utah, along with the Sundance Film Festival), and Daily Dead was thrilled to speak with director Stevens about taking his debut to the prestigious fest, how his entire cast and crew came together to support his wild vision for the project, and the thrill of collaborating with legendary funny man Miller.

Congrats on Slamdance, Trevor. I'm sure nerves are kind of settling in a little bit now, but...
