Chicago Fire went into the episode "Post Mortem" promising blood. It was heavily implied that 51 would be losing one of their own after a tragic accident occurs on the job. And it did, albeit, not in the way we expected. Nobody died in "Post Mortem," contrary to its title. But we did see Jack Damon (Michael Bradway) nearly die after a building collapse left him with internal bleeding.

Damon's identity is kept a secret for the majority of the episode, and even when its confirmed that he was the firefighter who sparked the entire 51 investigation, there's uncertainty as to whether he will survive. Thankfully, he pulls through, and gets through his surgery intact. It's possible that Damon will never put out another fire. Which leads us to ask: what has the point of his entire season 13 arc been?

Lj Smith, the author of the bestselling young adult fiction "The Vampire Diaries," has died at age 66. Smith's popular vampire book series was turned into a hit television show of the same name on the CW Network and lasted for eight seasons. The New York Times reported that the author died on March 8, in Walnut Creek, California, after dealing with the effects of a rare autoimmune disease for a decade. The Vampire Diaries is one of the few shows that thrived with a huge ensemble cast, as every figure was so unique and individually important to the overarching story of the fantasy drama. Damon, Elena, and Stefan were obviously incredibly important, but the supporting cast also managed to enthrall fans with their own character arcs that were as interesting as the three protagonists. However, some of these beloved characters didn't last as long as the show did.

Some of them, like Jenna and Liz, met untimely deaths that left viewers completely heartbroken, while others exited the show to explore other endeavors. The Vampire Diaries handled some of these character departures very well, but others, like Meredith Fell, were never explained until episodes later and in passing. These fan favorites would have enhanced the show if they had stuck around, without a doubt, but they were sadly phased out of the show a little too soon.

Chicago Fire puts characters in danger on a weekly basis. We see firefighters and medics putting their lives on the line to protect others. Unfortunately, it doesn't always end well. There have been several deaths over the course of the show's 13 seasons. Some of which, we are still reeling from.

Exciting news has been revealed for One Chicago fans. A major crossover event is planned to soon air on NBC, bringing together all three One Chicago shows for the first time since before the pandemic.

Per TVLine, NBC is planning a one-night crossover event for Chicago Fire, Chicago P.D., and Chicago Med. The storyline will reportedly focus on a "massive explosion in an office building that upends the entire city (above and below ground)." The last time all three shows were brought together was in Oct. 2019, several months before the Covid-19 pandemic. Chicago Fire's long run means that the Chicago Fire cast has shifted many times over the years, but not every character gets a well-respected exit. Certain factors disqualify TV villains from redemption, such as unforgivable acts, lack of atonement, or questionable circumstances. Failing to fully address why a villain deserves redemption can leave a questionable legacy for a series.

TV villains that were redeemed way too easily can be greatly disappointing for any series' long-time viewers. Unfortunately, even in some of the greatest shows of all time, there are television characters whose redemption arcs have felt too sudden, unrealistic, or wholly undeserved. This can be due to a number of factors, but this is typically caused by showrunners failing to keep their fingers on the pulse of target audiences.

Indeed, not all TV villains who became heroes truly deserved the opportunity for redemption. To be fair, whether a TV villain was redeemed way too easily or not is ultimately a matter of opinion.

TV shows must make tough decisions on plotlines that can disrupt the overall narrative and risk losing the audience. Some scrapped storylines could have improved the series, while others could have destroyed its success. Characters like Klaus Mikaelson in The Vampire Diaries and Steve Harrington in Stranger Things were originally planned to be killed off but were kept due to their popularity.

TV shows often have to make bold choices to stay relevant, popular, and entertaining, but some storylines end up being so shocking that showrunners scrap them altogether, and rightfully so. Every series has its own unique feature that draws viewers in, be it the main couple, the central mystery, or the captivating atmosphere. If any of that is compromised, the show risks losing its audience and getting canceled well before its time. Nina Dobrev, who played Elena Gilbert, left The Vampire Diaries in season 6 but made a comeback in the series finale for her character's happy ending with Damon. Steven R. McQueen, who portrayed Jeremy Gilbert, left the show because his character's story had been played out, and there was no more room for growth. Michael Trevino left The Vampire Diaries in season 6 because he felt his character, Tyler Lockwood, was becoming repetitive. However, Tyler returned in season 8 only to be killed off.

The Vampire Diaries featured centuries-old vampires, formidable witches, fearsome werewolves, and powerful hybrids, so it was no surprise when characters started dying left and right and exiting the television show. Of course, minor characters were typically the ones to die or leave Mystic Falls. But now and then, a central figure in the CW supernatural teen drama series would depart, leaving fans confused as to why the actor was leaving the show.

The Vampire Diaries without Nina Dobrev's Elena would be really hard to imagine. Especially since the actress made a wonderful job portraying not only the main character of the series but her equally popular doppelganger Katherine Pierce.

Of course, Dobrev was already a well-known actress when she got cast in The CW's hit show, but there's no doubt that The Vampire Diaries changed her whole career for good and Elena it's probably the role of her life. But she almost didn't get it.

In a recent interview on Live with Kelly and Mark (via The Sun), the actress revealed that she was torn between auditioning for the series based on L. J. Smith's popular novels or another acclaimed television series:

Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev) and Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder) have a sire bond in season 4 of The Vampire Diaries, and it has been a point of contention ever since. First introduced in season 3, episode 6, "Smells Like Teen Spirit" the sire bond came into play when Damon revealed Tyler (Michael Lockwood) was sired to Klaus (Joseph Morgan) after he was made a 'hybrid'. It was learned that this "sire connection" was forged out of gratitude (as Tyler was now able to prevent himself from turning into a werewolf). However, a consequence of this was that Tyler had to do everything Klaus told him to.

Initially, it did seem like the sired bond was just going to be another fact to include in Tvd lore, but it turned out that producers, Julie Plec and Caroline Dries, had bigger plans for it in season 4 when they revealed that a sire bond can emerge between vampires.

Bad news for Netflix subscribers who keep The Vampire Diaries playing on a loop.

The long-running supernatural drama, which originally aired on The CW from 2009 to 2017, is no longer on the service. As of Sunday, Sept. 4, 2022, all eight seasons (and 171 episodes) are available on HBO Max and Peacock (sign up here).

Another Mikaelson is making their way back to Mystic Falls.

Claire Holt, who played Rebekah on The Vampire Diaries and The Originals is set to appear in a new episode of Legacies next month.

According to TV Line, the episode will find Rebekah trying to get through to Hope after tracking her down.

“Hope is tracked down by the one person who could help her — Rebekah Mikaelson,” reads the episode’s official synopsis.

“Rebekah is fearful of what path Hope has chosen but makes every effort to get through to her."

"Josie and Lizzie hold out hope in a seemingly dire situation as Mg figures out what he can do to help. Meanwhile, Kaleb wants to set things right and turns to Cleo for guidance."

This development is especially intriguing because The CW unveiled a poster that declared "Hope Must Die," ahead of last week's season premiere.

Andy Muschietti is the fourth incumbent of the director’s chair, and he’s already got The Flash much further along the development process than any of his predecessors, generating massive buzz in the process by securing two huge casting coups and revealing that both Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck would be returning to play Batman as the Dceu dives headfirst into the multiverse.

The Dark Knight Rises concluded Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy on a bold note, with Bruce Wayne finding a happy ending with Selina Kyle and moving away from Gotham. In his stead, orphan cop John Blake was shown to have discovered the Batcave, which told us he was an adaptation of Robin and would go on to protect the city as Nightwing.

After Rises first came out, there was a lot of talk about how much everyone wanted to see Joseph Gordon-Levitt lead a spinoff movie about Blake’s exploits, but Nolan’s wish to keep his trilogy self-contained and Warner Bros.’ desire to create a wide-ranging shared universe – the Dceu – put paid to that idea. In some other universe out there, though, a Nightwing movie actually happened and the above fan-made trailer from YouTube channel Smasher gives us as a taste of what it would’ve been like.

Ian Somerhalder is set to star on Netflix's upcoming vampire drama, V Wars, but he's not entirely against returning to his Vampire Diaries roots. During an interview with Entertainment Tonight, the 40-year-old actor toyed with the idea of appearing on Tvd spinoff, Legacies.

While he wouldn't want to reprise his role as vampire-turned-human, Damon Salvatore, he would definitely love to direct an episode. "I actually would love to talk to Jules [The Vampire Diaries creator Julie Plec]. I would love to go and direct one of [the Legacies episodes]," Somerhalder said. "Because I know Paul [Wesley] went to do it, and he called me, and he's like, 'Bro, this is f*cking crazy.' Because it's all of our old sets, which is a time warp, 10 years ago. He's just going, 'Dude!' He was actually kind of emotional about it, he goes 'This is crazy!'"

Chris Wood is finally making his long-awaited return to Mystic Falls. The actor, who played fan-favorite baddie Kai Parker in several seasons of The Vampire Diaries, will guest-star in Episode 12 of Legacies‘ second season, EW reports.

TVLine spoke with series creator Julie Plec earlier this season, following a brief mention of Kai on the show, about the possibility of Wood showing his face on Legacies.
