Bob Mould will embark on a solo electric tour this September in support of his most recent album, Sunshine Rock. The run kicks off September 11th at the Music Box Supper Club in Cleveland, Ohio and wraps September 27th at Rams Head On Stage in Annapolis, Maryland. Nancy Wilson, a genre-spanning, Grammy-winning singer whose career spanned more than 50 years, died Thursday at age 81. Her longtime manager made the news public.
Born in 1937, Wilson grew up in Ohio and began her music career shortly after high school in 1956, working for Rusty Bryant’s Carolyn Club Big Band. Moving to New York City in 1959 on the advice of Julian “Cannonball” Adderley, she began playing clubs while supporting herself as a secretary, and was signed to Capitol Records the next year.

Bill Siegel, producer of the Emmy-winning documentary “The Trials of Muhammad Ali,” has died at the age of 55.
“Bill was an erudite, passionate and intelligent activist and independent thinker as well as being a gifted filmmaker and cherished friend,” read a statement from Kartemquin Films, which announced his death on Tuesday.

“He has been a valued member of the Kartemquin community since he first worked as a researcher on ‘Hoop Dreams.’ We will miss him greatly,” the statement added.

Spill a drink and smash the glass for the late, great Pete Shelley of the Buzzcocks, one of the most humane, compassionate, emotionally raw songwriters punk rock ever coughed up, not to mention the funniest. He twisted all the gender codes of rock & roll, casually shrugging off the masculine clichés punk inherited, pouring his heart out into three-minute vignettes. “Ever Fallen In Love,” “Get on Our Own,” “What Do I Get?,” “I Don’t Know What to Do With My Life” — these songs were emotionally urgent enough to make his peers sound like drooling cartoons.

Rizzle Kicks have told Digital Spy that they believe Huey Morgan "thought it would be funny" to smash a mug during his infamous appearance on Never Mind the Buzzcocks.
The 'Skip to the Good Bit' duo were guest hosts when Morgan angrily stormed off set at the end of an episode broadcast earlier this month.
Speaking to us at a rehearsal for the Royal Variety Performance at the London Palladium yesterday (November 25), Rizzle Kicks claimed that the Fun Lovin' Criminals star simply made a misjudged attempt at humour after "drinking the whole way through the show", and quickly realised that he was acting "ridiculous".
"I think he was just a bit mashed up," Jordan told DS. "He'd been drinking the whole way through the show and I actually think he thought it would be funny, but then realised how ridiculous it was and then, well, you can't really come back from that.

Morgan stunned fellow panelists in Monday's (November 4) episode by smashing a mug and storming off set after an apparent falling out with guest hosts Rizzle Kicks.

Noel Fielding has denied claims from an alleged Never Mind the Buzzcocks insider that the studio audience supported Huey Morgan when he stormed out of filming.
Viewers of the BBC Two music quiz last night (November 4) saw Morgan smash a mug against his desk and walk off set after apparently becoming frustrated with guest hosts Rizzle Kicks.
A subsequent newspaper report quoted a Buzzcocks show source as claiming that the audience were "mostly on the side of Huey because everything was taking ages to get right and film".
However, Fielding has claimed on Twitter that this was not the case, saying: "The mug was not broken because everything was taking too long to film.
"And the audience where (sic) in no way behind Huey ! They were supporting the Rizzles completely."
He continued: "It was all a storm in a tea cup...I'm sure Huey didn't mean it ! Just got over excited.

Blur's Alex James will host a new BBC Two series based around the best bits of hit panel show Never Mind the Buzzcocks.
What a Load of Buzzcocks, which will air in late spring, will look back at pop history over the last 16 years and revisit key years and events through classic Buzzcocks episodes and clips.
Buzzcocks was originally hosted by Mark Lamarr and featured Phil Jupitus and Sean Hughes as team captains.
Simon Amstell took over from Lamarr as host, before the show adopted a rotating guest host policy, while other team captains over the 16 years have included Bill Bailey and Noel Fielding.
"I've always been a big fan of the show and I'm looking forward to seeing some of the highlights from the past 16 years," said James.

This French production swathes Strindberg's naturalistic tragedy in nonsensical Gallic chic
I am all for radical rethinks of the classics. London, for instance, boasts few better evenings than the current Young Vic Three Sisters. Patrick Marber has even provided, in After Miss Julie, a provocative update of Strindberg's 1888 play. But, although it features the redoubtable Juliette Binoche , this French production, originally seen at the Avignon festival, swathes Strindberg's naturalistic tragedy in nonsensical Gallic chic.
In many ways the real star of Frédéric Fisbach's production is Laurent P Berger – a visual artist responsible for set, lighting design and costumes. He has created a rectangular white box filled with sliding panels, swirling curtains and a bevy of beautiful people who might have stepped out of a French edition of Vogue. For the first 30 minutes we see them partying enthusiastically to background music by Blondie, Buzzcocks, Joy Division and Marvin Gaye. We assume...

Buzzcocks have confirmed reports that they will play a pair of career-spanning shows featuring three different lineups. The punk icons will their 'Back To Front' performance to the Manchester O2 Academy on May 25 and London's O2 Academy Brixton the following day. Buzzcocks will reportedly play two special shows next March featuring different lineups from across their career. The current band - Pete Shelley, Steve Diggle, Chris Remmington and Danny Farrant - will start the shows, before Remmington and Farrant make way for Steve Garvey and John Maher to recreate the group's classic 1978-1979 lineup, Louder Than War reports. It is suggested that Garvey will then depart the stage and be replaced by founding frontman Howard Devoto. The band will then play tracks from their era-defining Spiral Scratch Ep and songs which later appeared in demo form on Times Up. The Wonky Ratings Stuff: Government-subsidized television in the UK is a mysterious beast, especially to those of us over in the United States that expect solid ratings are all a show needs to ensure a return. It's certainly a huge factor in the UK, but production costs also play heavily into if and how a series is ordered. If I'm not mistaken, because many of the television shows are government backed, a recession can even affect the television schedule (it's why the last few episodes with David Tennant were movie specials, instead of a regular season). The reason why it's taken so long for "Torchwood" to return to the air, for instance, was never its ratings. Behind the boys and girls who front our favourite records, there's often someone almost as important lurking in the shadows. Martin Rushent, who died on Saturday at the age of 63, was one such figure. Starting out as an engineer on songs by T-Rex and Fleetwood Mac, he became an acclaimed producer in his own right in the late '70s. He launched his production career helming albums by punk groups like the Buzzcocks and The Stranglers, as well as early Joy Division sessions. But he's best known for his work on The Human League's Dare, defining the sound of an era and winning a well-deserved Brit Award in 1982. Bill Bailey has claimed that he left Never Mind The Buzzcocks because of the "contemptuous" way he was treated by the BBC. The comedian, who this week released new DVD Dandelion Mind, replaced Sean Hughes on the music panel quiz in 2002 but left the show himself in 2008. Noel Fielding has accused Simon Amstell of 'ruining' Never Mind The Buzzcocks by being too cruel to guests. Fielding, who currently features as a team captain on the BBC Two panel show, said that guests are now reluctant to appear on the programme because of former host Amstell's vicious presenting style. John Lennon is undoubtedly the most iconic of The Beatles. Regarded widely (though perhaps not accurately) as one of the most important figures of the peace movements of the 1960’s and 1970’s, his mythic status was solidified by his murder in 1980. The truth is, he was a bit of a jerk. He did, after all, abandon his wife and child and did not speak to them for a few years (though Yoko Ono should not receive the blame for this, as she often unjustly has). But the man and the music should be separated, and while his music post-Beatles was arguably better, Lennon and McCartney together proved that the sum is often better than the parts. Photographer Sam Taylor-Wood, in her feature directorial debut Nowhere Boy, takes the audience back further, to Lennon’s teenage years, his discovery of music, first meeting with McCartney, and his tumultuous familial relations.

A new series of Never Mind The Buzzcocks opened to 1.86m (8.4%) for BBC Two at 9.30pm on Thursday. The new run - the 23rd series of the music panel quiz - is being fronted by a series of guest presenters after former host Simon Amstell quit. The first episode, which had James Corden in the chair, was down around 360k on the previous series' opener and around 400k on the previous series' average. Earlier on the channel, a double bill of MasterChef: The Professionals put in 2.75m (12%) and 3.12m (13.8%) from 8pm. The BBC has announced that Never Mind The Buzzcocks will return this autumn with a brand new lineup. Skarsgard Dedicates Punk Anthem To Ex
TV vampire Alexander Skarsgard dedicated a punk classic to an ex-girlfriend he loved and lost while guest DJ-ing on a Los Angeles radio station recently.
The True Blood star's choice cuts can be heard on Kcrw's website and they include tributes to his mother and father, actor Stellan Skarsgard, as well as an ailing pal, but his pick of the Buzzcocks' Ever Fallen in Love came with a great story.
Skarsgard, who is now dating his True Blood co-star Evan Rachel Wood, admits he once couldn't listen to the song without crying - because it was the soundtrack to a stormy romance.
He explains, "I had this girlfriend a while ago, many years ago, and it was a very passionate relationship. I was very much in love with this girl, but, after a few months, we both realised we weren't good for each other.
"It was one of those relationships that we didn't make each other happy, but every time we broke up, we ended up back together and that went on for almost three years... It just killed me. It was really, really tough.
"I just tried to move on and so did she, but we just couldn't... I hope she found happiness somewhere out there.
"Every time after a fight I would just put on my big headphones and I would crank up the volume and go, 'Pete Shelley (Buzzcocks frontman) freakin’ gets it!' In a way, she will always be a part of me, but I don't have to listen to Buzzcocks and cry every day and night anymore. I can actually listen to it now and enjoy it because it's a great song."...

Nowhere Boy, a film about Beatle John Lennon's childhood, has started filming. The Weinstein Company has purchased the movie, which is two weeks into production, Variety reports. It was the first night of Telluride and I decided to catch a screening of a film called Kisses. Right on time the lights dimmed, and without an introduction the film started. But after about 2 minutes, it seemed clear that this wasn't Kisses. Did I go to the wrong movie? Did they put in the wrong reel? Eventually I realized it was the short that preceded Kisses, titled Love You More, but instead of loathing every minute, I ended up loving every minute. Love You More is a 15 minute short film directed by Sam Taylor-Wood about two high school kids in 1978 who end up together while listening to the newly released Buzzcocks single "Love You More".
