After starring as the romantic lead in Jon M. Chu‘s 2018 adaptation of the Kevin Kwan novel, the actor recently shared a “promising” update on the upcoming HBO Max series expansion.

“Something’s being made. I think we’re actually going to do a series. That’s what they’re trying to give us,” he said on Watch What Happens Live. “Aiming for like first quarter, even, next year.”

Golding told host Andy Cohen, “There are scripts hanging around but they haven’t been passed on yet. I haven’t read anything, but I hear it’s promising.”

There's still not many updates about the second film, but it has been confirmed that a series at Max is coming. While initially thinking this would be with a whole new cast, it sounds like there's several original cast members coming back to reprise their roles.

Unforgettable also honored the cast of Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbender with the vanguard award, with much of the young cast in attendance.

The Crazy Rich Asians sequel seemed like a guarantee after the 2018 movie, which adapted the Kevin Kwan novel and followed Rachel (Constance Wu) learning that her boyfriend Nick (Henry Golding) was part of a rich Singaporean family and fighting to impress his stern mother Eleanor (Michelle Yeoh), grossed $239 million against its $30 million budget and earned two Golden Globe nominations. As the novel was the first of a trilogy, an adaptation of the sequel China Rich Girlfriend was announced in 2018, but development has seemingly stalled in the interim.
