With multiple alimony-inspired money-making projects in need of promotion, Monty Python legend John Cleese recently appeared on ITV’s Lorraine in the U.K. Unfortunately, things got off to a rocky start when Cleese inadvertently insulted the interviewer.
As reported by Yahoo!, guest host Kate Garraway asked Cleese if he would consider appearing in a reality TV show, like The Traitors. “Only if I went completely mad, “Cleese responded. “I can’t imagine anything more awful. And you get offered so much money. (But) I couldn’t stand the humiliation.”
Garraway mentioned that she has appeared on several of these shows, adding “so we’ve got off to a great start, haven’t we?” Although she somehow restrained herself from pointing out that she perhaps doesn’t need lessons in avoiding career humiliation from the fifth-billed star of Daddy Daughter Trip.
Cleese also discussed Fawlty Towers, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.

ITV’s controversial husband-wife political interview has attracted more than 8,000 complaints to Ofcom, putting it second on the 2024 list.
Social media took off when Good Morning Britain host Ed Balls gave his wife Yvette Cooper, the Labour Home Secretary, a grilling on ITV earlier this week. Given that Gb News has fallen foul of Ofcom’s rules over the thorny issue of politicians interviewing politicians from the same party, the incident generated headlines. ITV has already said it stands by the decision and believes the interview was “fair and impartial.”
An Ofcom spokesperson said: “We are assessing the complaints against our broadcasting rules but are yet to decide whether or not to investigate.”
Balls, who used to be a Labour MP and Chancellor but lost his seat in 2015 and has since appeared on Strictly Come Dancing, was interviewing Cooper about the UK riots and the governing Labour Party’s response.

“I am shattered to have to announce that my beloved elder son Nick died a few hours ago in Basingstoke Hospital,” Lloyd-Webber wrote in a brief statement.
“His whole family is gathered together and we are all totally bereft – Alw.”
The news came shortly after Lloyd-Webber revealed that Nicholas was “critically ill” with gastric cancer, also known as stomach cancer.
On Tuesday (18 April), Lloyd-Webber described the last moments he spent with his son in an essay for the New York Times.

Kate Garraway has thanked Elton John for his surprise tribute to her husband Derek Draper on stage at his farewell tour.
Former political lobbyist Draper contracted Covid in March 2020 and was placed in a medically induced coma for several months.
He woke up several months later, but was only able to go home in April 2021 and since then, has required around-the-clock care, provided by the ITV presenter and a team of healthcare professionals.
On Monday (17 April), Garraway, Draper and their two children Darcey and Billy were invited by John to attend his Farewell Yellow Brick Road live show, which he is performing at London’s O2 Arena all month.
During the show, John dedicated “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me” to the “inspiring” couple, who he said had been “through hell” but had “never given up”.

Love is Blind fans aren’t happy about the season four reunion.
While some fans “loved the drama” that unfolded in the show, the majority are calling it “the most boring Love is Blind reunion I’ve ever seen”.
Many people are also calling out the show producers to remove Nick and Vanessa Lachey as the hosts, with many saying they were “awkward as hosts” and “picked sides” with certain cast members.
This season, it was revealed that couples Kwame Appiah and Chelsea Griffin, Zack Goytowski and Bliss Poureetezadi, and Brett Brown and Tiffany Pennywell were happily married one year later.
Paul Peden and Micah Lussier came face-to-face for the first time since calling it quits, and Marshall Glaze and Jackelina Bonds still had tension between them despite Bonds not showing up for the reunion.
“Omg the Love is Blind reunion is ruthless. Is it me or are they hammering these people?...

A new report has claimed that Rupert Murdoch’s son Lachlan accused his brother, James, of leaking lines to the writers of Succession.
The acclaimed HBO series focuses on a corporate power struggle between ailing Murdoch-esque media mogul Logan Roy (Brian Cox) and his children.
While the show’s creators have often played down any direct parallels to real-life people or events, viewers have drawn numerous comparisons between the Roys and the Murdochs.
A recent episode, for instance, saw Logan stand on paper boxes to deliver an impassioned speech to the staff at his Fox News-like TV network Atn. The moment bore close similarities to a real incident from 2007, when Murdoch stood on paper boxes to address staff at the Wall Street Journal.
A new feature on the Murdochs for Vanity Fair cites a source claiming that Lachlan accused James of leaking stories to the writers of Succession.

Adil Ray has criticised Laurence Fox after the Lewis star compared insults aimed at him as an actor to Ray’s own experiences of racism.
On Sunday (10 April), the Good Morning Britain host – who has been vocal about past experiences in which he was the target of racism – responded to a news story about Essex police seizing racially offensive dolls from a pub.
The dolls, traditionally known as “golli***s”, feature a racist caricature of Black people.
Writing on Twitter, Ray commented: “I was called golliw*** at school. Just hearing the word frightens me. I can’t think of any good reason why someone on balance might think it’s ok to display them in a pub.”
In response, Fox tweeted: “Stay strong bro. I feel your pain. [Theatre critic] Quentin Letts described me as having a face that belonged in the winners enclosure at Aintree in a theatre review once, which,...

Adil Ray has spoken out after receiving “nothing but” racist messages in the wake of Suella Braverman’s comments about “British-Pakistani males”.
Speaking about the government crackdown on child sexual abuse on Sunday (2 April), the home secretary singled out British-Pakistani men as she alluded to grooming cases in Rotherham and Rochdale.
Braverman pointed to a “predominance of certain ethnic groups – and I say British Pakistani males – who hold cultural values totally at odds with British values, who see women in a demeaned and illegitimate way and pursue an outdated and frankly heinous approach in terms of the way they behave”.
Braverman was subsequently accused of “dog whistle” politics, while the Nspcc argued that only considering race could create new “blind spots”.
During a discussion on Good Morning Britain on Thursday (6 April) about the government’s refugee policy, Ray shared his fear that the country was becoming more divided.

Channel 4’s new series Naked Education became the subject of debate on Good Morning Britain today (6 April).
The show, from the producers of the equally controversial programme Naked Attraction, is presented by Anna Richardson, Yinka Bokinni, and Dr Alex George, and focuses on body positivity.
In the first episode, which debuted on Tuesday night (4 April), a group of teenagers aged 14 to 16 years old were taught about body hair. The segment concluded with four adults stripping off in front of them to show the diversity of people’s bodies.
The four adults also spoke to the teenagers, telling them of their own issues with body image. They also discussed the subject of pubic hair with one another.

To Leslie, the small indie movie that took in just 27,000 at the box office, has been making headlines in recent weeks for its passionate Oscars campaign.
Cate Blanchett singled out Andrea Riseborough’s lead performance while accepting an award for her own film Tár. Dave Bautista has shared his concerns over why he has not yet been offered a lead role in a romantic comedy.
Since the early 2010s, the former WWE star has established a successful acting career with roles in the Guardians of the Galaxy and Avengers films, Dune and in last year’s hit whodunit, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery.
However, Bautista has yet to tackle a role that allows him to explore a romantic connection on screen – and it’s something he’s keen to try out.
“I know I’m not your typical rom-com lead,” he reasoned to Page Six on Monday (30 January).
“I’m a little rough around the edges. But I always, you know, I look in the mirror and I say, I ask myself, ‘Am I that unattractive? Is there something that unappealing about me that excludes me from these parts?’

Kate Garraway held back tears as she confronted Matt Hancock over his breaking of lockdown guidelines in 2021.
The 55-year-old broadcaster’s husband, Derek Draper, was diagnosed with Covid in early 2020 and spent months in an induced coma.
The former health secretary resigned after CCTV images were leaked of him embracing then-aide Gina Coldangelo in his Whitehall office, breaking government guidelines in place at the time.
On Tuesday morning’s (31 January) episode of Good Morning Britain, Garraway told Hancock how her husband couldn’t see their children and challenged him over his appearance on I’m a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here.
Talking about how Hancock broke his own rules, Garraway said: “I suppose the problem is you were the health secretary.

James Gunn has promised a more “unified” DC future going forward, outlining an extensive plan.
It’s been three months since Gunn and co-ceo Peter Safran took over DC studios in October, and in their first official meeting with the press on Monday (30 January), the two shared their vision, which includes 10 new projects.
Gunn argued that much of the company’s former disarray came from its loose policy regarding intellectual property.
“The history of DC is pretty f***ed up,” he said (via Variety). “They were just giving away IP like they were party favours to any creators.
“What we are going to do is we’re going to promise that everything from our first project forward is going to be unified. But we will say that we’ve gotten very lucky [inheriting these] next four projects.”

CNN This Morning’s viewership ratings have continually declined since the show launched three months ago.
The new morning programme, featuring journalists Don Lemon, Poppy Harlow and Kaitlan Collins, kicked off on 1 November.
It premiered just one day after New Day, the show it was intended to replace, concluded on 31 October.
The show already got off to a rocky start, but according to viewing stats from Nielsen, last week CNN This Morning earned its lowest ratings since the show began, averaging 331,000 viewers.
Meanwhile, its competitors Fox & Friends and MSNBC’s Morning Joe drew nearly 1 million and 760,000 viewers apiece across the same time period.
When it first began, CNN This Morning averaged a total of 387,000 viewers. This was six per cent lower on a year-to-date perspective than the series premieres of New Day, which was led by Chris Cuomo and Alisyn Camerota.
CNN’s new CEO Licht said at the time:...

Keanu Reeves has admitted just how hard he fought for Warner Bros to greenlight a Constantine sequel.
In September 2022, the studio confirmed a forthcoming sequel to the actor’s 2005 fantasy horror film – based on DC/Vertigo’s Hellblazer comics – in which he starred as suicide survivor and demon hunter John, who finds himself entangled in a supernatural plot between angelic and demonic forces.
The spin-off comes nearly two decades after the original was released, with Reeves admitting it took continued persistence before Warner Bros finally agreed to a sequel.

Ashton Kutcher has spoken about the rape allegations made against his former co-star Danny Masterson.
Kutcher’s That ‘70s Show and The Ranch castmate Masterson appeared in court in November, charged with allegedly raping three women, including a former girlfriend, at his home between 2001 and 2003.
Back in December, the case ended in mistrial after the jury were deadlocked and unable to reach a verdict. In January, prosecutors said that they would retry Masterson on all three counts, with the new trial scheduled for March.
In an interview with Esquire, Kutcher said Masterson had been the one to mentor and keep in line the young cast on That ‘70s Show, making the legal case particularly hard for him to watch.
Explaining that he was still in touch with Masterson and regularly speaks to his brother, Kutcher said that he worried about the impact of the case on his eight-year-old daughter.

Johnny Knoxville has responded to Hulu’s decision to scrap Reboot after just one season.

“It’s with a heavy heart that I say that despite getting great reviews and being nominated for a Critics Choice Award, Hulu has failed to pick up Reboot even for a second season,” the Jackass star posted on Instagram.
“Pretty unbelievable,” Knoxville added. “It’s not over yet though, as we tend to shop it around and hopefully it will find a home with a studio who believes in and...

Richard Madeley suffered a fall moments before presenting Good Morning Britain.
The broadcaster co-hosted the ITV1 breakfast show, which was live from Whiston Hospital in Merseyside on Monday (12 December).
Upon arriving at the hospital, though, Madeley got out of the car and slipped over due to the snow.
“I fell over this morning getting out of the car,” the host told viewers.
His co-host, Kate Garraway, added: “It was very tense.”
Despite worrying those around him, Madeley appeared to have no injuries.
The hosts were in Whiston Hospital to shine a light on the hard-working efforts made by NHS workers.
Throughout the broadcast, both Madeley and Garraway visited different departments to see them in action.
They said that staff had told them they had just had one of their most “challenging” weekends ever due to business.
Madeley was recently chastised by Gmb viewers after making an “absolutely wrong” claim about dentists.

The Crown has not included a fictional disclaimer for its new season despite calls from critics.
The hit Netflix show returned on Wednesday (9 November) for its highly anticipated fifth season, which largely focuses on the breakdown of the marriage between the late Princess Diana and then Prince Charles.
You can follow updates from the series’ launch on The Independent’s live blog here.
Despite controversy, series producers decided against adding a disclaimer that reminds viewers that the show is a fictional dramatisation of real events.
Instead, a disclaimer was added the latest trailer for The Crown in the lead-up to its new season but not the programme itself.
In its trailer, posted on YouTube, Netflix writes: “Inspired by real events, this fictional dramatisation tells the story of Queen Elizabeth II and the political and personal events that shaped her reign.”
The Independent has contacted Netflix for comment.

Judi Dench has become the latest celebrity to criticiseThe Crown and suggest it should include a disclaimer.
Netflix’s historical drama series is returning for its fifth season in November.
The new run of episodes will jump forward to the Nineties with a new cast playing the royal family. They will reportedly depict the breakdown of King Charles III’s marriage to Princess Diana.
It is also rumoured to show Charles requesting then-prime minister John Major’s support for the Queen’s abdication.
While Netflix has always insisted that its viewers know the show is a work of fiction, there has been much discussion in recent years about whether subscribers should be told this when they tune in.
When the fourth season of the historical drama dropped in 2020, then-culture secretary Oliver Dowden said that the streamer should add a “health warning” to the series, reminding viewers that it was not fact.

David Dimbleby condemned the “chaos” engulfing Liz Truss’s Conservative government during an appearance on Good Morning Britain on Thursday (6 October).
The veteran broadcaster was interviewed following the Tory party’s annual conference, held in Birmingham earlier this week.
Truss came to the conference amid widespread divisions within the party, exacerbated by the publication of a “mini-budget” last month that left the economy in crisis.
Speaking to Gmb hosts Ben Shephard and Kate Garraway, Dimbleby said: “It’s chaotic isn’t it. I’ve never seen quite such chaos.
“It’s not just the chaos of a party that’s clearly disintegrating before our eyes in the Conservative Party. It’s riven with disagreement. What was going on in Birmingham... unbelievable.”
However, the former Question Time presenter added: “It seems to me in politics these things, they do kind of come and go. I think our politics will settle at some point.
