For All Mankind has spent four seasons exploring an alternate timeline of space exploration, and with Season 5 in development, many fans are wondering how much story is left to tell. According to co-creators Matt Wolpert and Ben Nedivi, the end may be closer than we think. Speaking exclusively with Collider's Steve Weintraub at San Diego Comic-Con, the duo reaffirmed that their long-standing plan for the series remains largely intact. While some creative detours have occurred along the way, the show’s trajectory hasn’t veered too far from their original vision.
“It has done a little bit of both,” Wolpert said when asked how much of the show still follows the seven-season blueprint. “I think a lot of the things we talked about in those early stages have held and some things, as you go, you realize, ‘Oh, that doesn't really track,’ or we thought of a more interesting idea.

Star City, the upcoming Soviet-era spin-off set in the universe of For All Mankind, is almost finished filming — and co-creators Matt Wolpert and Ben Nedivi say the end is finally in sight. The cast of the series includes Rhys Ifans, Anna Maxwell Martin, Solly McLeod, Agnes O’Casey, Alice Englert, Adam Nagaitis, Josef Davies, Ruby Ashbourne Serkis, and Priya Kansara.
“We’re very close to the end of the production process and getting into the editing and visual effects,” Wolpert told Collider's Steve Weintraub in an exclusive Sdcc interview. When pressed about a possible release window, Nedivi added, “It’ll be next year, for sure.”
That lines up with current expectations for the Star City rollout, which seems on track for late 2026. “It’s sort of in that ballpark probably,” Wolpert said. “That could be 12 months, could be 18. So, it's just a question of where it fits.”

If you were hoping to return to Happy Valley before the end of 2025, you might want to adjust expectations — or at least pack some extra patience for the journey back to Mars. At San Diego Comic-Con, For All Mankind co-creators Matt Wolpert and Ben Nedivi gave Collider's Steve Weintraub an exclusive update on the status of Season 5, and while there’s good news that it’s still very much in the works, the bad news is… no one’s ready to commit to a premiere date just yet.
“We're still sort of figuring that out,” Wolpert admitted when asked if fans could expect new episodes to drop this year. “So, it will come out soon-ish, but that could mean a lot of different things.”
Nedivi explained the reasons behind the delay. “We're still working on the season. As with the writers’ strike and the fact that we worked on two shows this last year,...

If For All Mankind started as an alternate history of the space race, then Season 5 looks ready to turn it into a full-blown interplanetary standoff. At San Diego Comic-Con, Collider's Steve Weintraub spoke with co-creators Matt Wolpert and Ben Nedivi about what’s ahead in the upcoming fifth season, and they made one thing clear — the show’s Cold War roots are evolving into something much bigger.
“We can say that, obviously, Season 4 ended with an asteroid being stolen, and so there are a lot of people on Earth who are pretty pissed off about that,” Wolpert said. “I think that more than anything, I would say the thrust of the Season 5 story is how a rift is forming between the people who live on Mars — and more and more people are now living on Mars — and the people who have stayed back on Earth. And so, this show...

For All Mankind fans got a major scare in the Season 4 finale when Danielle Poole took a bullet during the climactic Mars skirmish. But the bigger question heading into Season 5 is whether we’ve seen the last of her entirely. At San Diego Comic-Con 2025, For All Mankind co-creator Ben Nedivi played it coy when asked by Collider's Steve Weintraub if Dani Poole (Krys Marshall) would return next season.
“That’s for you to find out with Season 5. That’s part of the fun of the show — obviously, the characters every season evolve. The cast from Season 1 to now, it’s crazy to see how many people are left, and we bring in new people. We’re actually going to bring in new people for Season 5, as well. For All Mankind showrunners Matt Wolpert and Ben Nedivi tease Ed Baldwin's age in season 5 as the show's timeline jumps another decade. For All Mankind's alternate timeline has brought the United States to Mars, something the series will be further exploring in the upcoming episodes. Season 5 takes place in 2012, nine years after the events of season 4.
In an interview with ScreenRant's Joe Deckelmeier at San Diego Comic-Con, Wolpert and Nedivi explained Ed's age going into For All Mankind season 5. Wolpert explained how they haven't particularly ascribed an age to Ed, describing a time during season 1's production when Joel Kinnaman was preparing for when the character got older. Check out what Wolpert said below:
ScreenRant: Now, For All Mankind, we're heading into season 5. It's 2012, but a whole new series is also going to explore the space race from the other side of the lens that we get The Soviets coming out swinging hard.

The creators of the hit sci-fi TV show For All Mankind hint at how the ongoing series could become Apple TV+'s version of Star Trek. For All Mankind season 4 ended with the alternate history series jumping ahead another 10 years, showcasing the US' successful settlement on Mars. The series is expected to showcase humanity going even further into space.
Speaking with ScreenRant's Joe Deckelmeier, series co-creator Ronald D. Moore expressed interest in For All Mankind exploring some Star Trek-like ideas, such as something similar to Starfleet:
ScreenRant: Now, Ronald, I have a theory about the show. I'm sure it's not an original theory, but For All Mankind is really, really grounded. Could this be a prequel to something like a Star Trek for Apple TV+? And were you ever planning to gradually build towards that--your own version of Starfleet or a Federation-like future?

Apple TV+ has recently announced Star City, which is going to be a spin-off of the popular show for all mankind. The upcoming show will take viewers into the heart of the Soviet space program. It will be shorter from the point of view of the Soviet Union side of the space race.
It’s potentially going to be about a world where the Soviets were the first people to land in space and not the USA. It was announced in April 2024, along with the renewal of for all mankind for a fifth season. It promises a character-driven, espionage-laced narrative, which is going to embark on a new journey with reminiscences of some familiarities.

Apple TV+ is taking a bold leap into uncharted territory with a gallant spinoff of its highly praised alternate-history show For All Mankind. Ronald D. Moore, the executive producer, has described the project as a daring attempt, pointing to the risks and realism entrenched in the Soviet space program.
The original show is already a concept rarely showcased in Western media. Now, with the new courageous narrative shift, audiences can expect to view the Cold War’s space race from a fresh lens, diving deep into the lives of Russian engineers, cosmonauts, and intelligence officers.

Created by Ronald D. Moore, Matt Wolpert, and Ben Nedivi, Apple TV+’s science fiction drama series For All Mankind has received critical acclaim for its concept. The show dramatizes an alternate version of the Space Race between the United States and the Soviet Union, and each episode introduces an exciting alternate history to explore.
For All Mankind is reportedly taken from the plaque that the astronauts placed on the moon where Neil Armstrong took his first steps. It read, ‘Here men from the planet Earth first set foot upon the moon, July 1969 A.D. We came in peace for all mankind.’ One detail from the show goes on to depict that the world would be a better place if America achieved gender equity.

The final season of Outlander just got a colossal update from one of its leading stars. Outlander follows Claire Beauchamp Randall (Caitríona Balfe), a WWII nurse who goes back in time to Scotland in 1743. She meets the dashing Highland warrior Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) and falls for him while also landing in the middle of an epic rebellion. Starz confirmed more than two years ago that Outlander would end with Season 8, and the final season even wrapped filming back in September 2024, but it’s still lacking an official premiere date. Caitríona Balfe recently sat down for a chat with Collider’s Steve Weintraub to talk about her upcoming action movie, The Amateur, and she teased an emotional season finale:
“Wrapping Outlander was very emotional. Everybody came to set, which was just very weird because they gave Sam [Heughan] and I a seven-page scene that was just full of dialogue to finish on,...

For All Mankind was one of the first original shows to appear on Apple TV+. It's an alternate history series that asks the question: what if the space race between the United States and the Soviet Union, which raged through the 1950s, 60s and 70s, never stopped? What if the countries kept pushing each other to develop new technologies? How different would our world be?
For All Mankind has been plugging away for four seasons now, all of them worth watching. Each season jumps forward in time. The show began in 1969, but the stinger at the end of season 4 jumped all the way ahead to 2012, where we've built a mining facility on an asteroid orbiting Mars. That's where we'll pick up with For All Mankind season 5.

The Apple TV+ original series For All Mankind has re-written history throughout its first four seasons on the air, and there are important updates regarding season 5. Developed by Ronald D. Moore, Matt Wolpert, and Ben Nedivi, the series is set in an alternate reality in which the Soviet Union beat the United States to the moon in the 1960s, and the legendary space race never truly ended. Essentially reinventing itself from season to season, For All Mankind moves one decade at a time to show more of what could have been.
Critically popular from the start, the series has been one of the best shows on Apple TV+ since its debut, and it is certainly one of their longest-running original programs. Several of the show's seasons have earned 100% scores on Rotten Tomatoes with many critics praising the ensemble casting, thought-provoking writing, and original atmosphere that the series brings each and every episode.

Exclusive: Barrett Carnahan (Cobra Kai) has been cast in the Apple TV+ series For All Mankind for the space drama’s upcoming fifth season. In a recurring role, he will portray ‘Marcus,’ a recent high school graduate living on Mars.
The latest season of For All Mankind, created by Ronald D. Moore, Matt Wolpert and Ben Nedivi, rocketed the series into the new millennium. In the eight years since Season 3, Happy Valley has rapidly expanded its footprint on Mars by turning former foes into partners. It’s now 2003, and the space program’s focus has turned to capturing and mining extremely valuable, mineral-rich asteroids that could change the future of both Earth and Mars. But simmering tensions between the residents of the now-sprawling international base threaten to undo everything they are working toward.
Carnahan joins the expanding cast that includes Mireille Enos, Costa Ronin, Sean Kaufman, Ruby Cruz and Ines Asserson.

What would Battlestar Galactica look like if it were launched today?
That was the question posted to Ronald D. Moore, the uber-producer who returned to his native habitat on Thursday — San Diego Comic-Con — to discuss his life’s work with former muse Mary McDonnell.
McDonnell, who played President Laura Roslin on the sci-fi series, wondered if Moore’s 2004 reimagining of the 1978 Battlestar Galactica series would look and sound any different today given the state of politics and our culture.
“I mean, the story itself would probably be different because I wrote it at a specific moment in our lives and in our history,” said Moore. “I was approached to do the project just a months after the 9/11 attacks. As it was developed, it happened and then there as Iraq and Guantanamo Bay and we were dealing with the Patriot Act and a lot issues of freedom versus security with terrorism...

How do Hollywood creators forge massive universes for their characters? For Ronald D. Moore, executive producer of “For All Mankind” and “Outlander,” it all began with the question: What if the Russians landed on the moon first? From this starting point, “For All Mankind” was born. Moore and his team explored their alternate timeline, weaving cultural, societal, and political shifts with historical events, crafting a rich universe for the Apple+ TV series.
Diving deeper into the intricacies of world-building for Variety’s Sony FYC Showcase, Moore was joined on the “Building a Television Universe” panel by “For All Mankind” co-showrunners and exec producers Matt Wolpert and Ben Nedivi, as well as Maril Davis, who serves as an exec producer on both “For All Mankind” and “Outlander.” Also on the panel: “Justified: City Primeval” co-showrunners and exec producers Michael Dinner and Dave Andron, as well as Sony Pictures TV drama development exec VP Andrew Plotkin.

There are lots of exciting things to look forward to as For All Mankind season 5 reaches the year 2012. AppleTV+ have recently renewed For All Mankind for season 5, meaning that audiences will return to the Red Planet to catch up on the progress of the Goldilocks asteroid mining project, and the search for life on Mars spearheaded by Kelly Baldwin (Cynthy Wu). The time jump at the end of For All Mankind's season 4 finale revealed that the Goldilocks asteroid heist had led to the establishment of a sprawling mining base, Kuznetsov Station, in which much of season 5's action will presumably take place.
The future of Kuznetsov Station is key to For All Mankind season 5 because of its impact on both Mars and the space race. Fam showrunners Ben Nedivi and Matt Wolpert have teased that the huge mining operation could have led to an expansion of the Happy Valley base into a thriving Martian colony.

Star City offers a fresh perspective, as it follows the Soviet space program during the established timeline of For All Mankind. The Apple TV+ spin-off series could enhance character arcs and fill in narrative gaps, providing more context for fans. Star City could also add a stronger sense of historicity if it runs concurrently with its parent show's latest season.
For All Mankind's spin-off series, Star City, gives the story an exciting opportunity to explore and expand on that world's characters. The show explores the question "what if the global space race had never ended," in an alternate version of 1969 after the Soviet Union successfully landed on the Moon before the United States. As the two countries attempt to catch up and one-up each other, more people get involved on each side as the path diverges from the reality audiences know, with each season taking place ten years after the previous one.

Some very good news over the long-distance relay for fans of alt-history sci-fi series For All Mankind. Apple TV+ has decided to not only renew the main show for a fifth season, but also commission a new spin-off sibling, Star City, which will explore the space race story from the Russian side of events.
Season Four of For All Mankind reached 2003, and the well-established Mars base on Happy Valley became a hotbed of blue-collar dissent and authority crackdowns. And asteroid mining became a hot-button issues, with disagreements over where this rich new source of minerals and metals should be positioned to maximize their use.
The fifth season will see another time jump, meaning we're likely to say goodbye to veteran characters such as those played by Joel Kinnaman and Krys Marshall.
Yet the new spin-off offers the chance to see the likes of NASA-chief-turned-defector Margo Madison (Wrenn Schmidt) again...

Following its critically acclaimed fourth season, which has been praised as “the best-written show on all of television” and “superior sci-fi,” Apple TV+ announced that its hit, award-winning space drama series “For All Mankind” has landed a renewal for season five. Additionally, Apple TV+ and “For All Mankind” creators Ronald D. Moore, Matt Wolpert and Ben Nedivi will expand the “For All Mankind” universe with a brand-new spinoff series, “Star City,” which will be showrun by Nedivi and Wolpert. “Our fascination with the Soviet space program has grown with every season of ‘For All Mankind,’” said executive producers Matt Wolpert and Ben Nedivi. “The more we learned about this secret city in the forests outside Moscow where the Soviet cosmonauts and engineers worked and lived, the more we wanted to tell this story of the other side of the space race.
