Danish Dancer Flindt Dies
Celebrated Danish ballet dancer, choreographer and company director Flemming Flindt has died after suffering a stroke, aged 72.
Flindt, well-known for choreographing controversial ballets with bizarre storylines, died on 3 March at his home in Sarasota, Florida.
He choreographed his first ballet, The Lesson, in 1963, depicting a ballet teacher who murders his students. The piece was later interpreted by many companies, including the Joffrey Ballet.
His ballets The Triumph of Death and Salome also hit headlines in the 1970s for their nude scenes.
In addition to his own productions, Flindt shaped his career with dance companies around the world, including the Festival Ballet in London, the Paris Opera Ballet and the Royal Danish Ballet school.
He also served as director at the prestigious Danish ballet company for 12 years, and at the Dallas Ballet from 1981 to 1989.
Flindt is survived by three daughters.
