Sara Gibbings is an award-winning producer/director with 20 years experience in international production.
With a background in journalism (The Sunday Tribune, The Sunday Times -Ireland Edition) she spent a couple of years doing commercials (Volkswagen, Carlsberg, Cadburys, Guinness, Aer Lingus) and music videos (U2) at Windmill Lane Pictures and Toytown Film in Dublin.
In 2000 Sara moved to Barcelona and spent the next four years as Channel Producer for 3 film channels at Media Park where she produced the documentary series Once Upon a Time in Europe (13 x 30') with Sir Christopher Lee, the documentary features Sergio Leone. Cinema. Cinema and The Good, the Bomb and the Ugly. In addition, she produced Telecine, Spain's first daily arts news program as well as the highly successful Cinema Composers series(30 x 15'). In May 2002 she produced the launch of a new TV channel, Star, which has since been bought by MGM.
Sara started Padi Productions in 2004 and has worked on documentaries and factual programs for the BBC, ITV, Channel 5, NHK,
TV3, Canal Sur. Most noted are BAFTA winning Simon Schama's Power of Art: Picasso, The Bachelor, Voyages of Discovery- Circumnavigation.
In 2016 Sara founded Troy TV in the UK, working primarily in factual content, collaborating on projects for Nat Geo, Discovery, BBC, Netflix and many more. Recent credits include UK Series Producer for Season One of Welcome to Wrexham (5 Emmy wins).
In 2021-2022 Troy TV expanded into scripted content, working primarily on female-led projects, with hugely talented British and Irish writers and directors. She produced Echo by Jo Southwell, which has won multiple awards in the US, UK and Europe, before working on Returned (Janet Marrett), and producing No Blacks No Irish No Regrets (Ann-Marie McCormack) and in 2025 produced Codes (Eleanor Rhode).
In 2024 Sara established Mermaid Pictures in Wales with director/writer Jo Southwell, for their shared slate of projects. Mermaid's first feature shoots late 2025.
Sara has won several awards for pitching, including winning Jets Berlin with Jo Southwell in 2024. She is a part-time lecturer and gives masterclasses in filmmaking, pitching and production management.
Sara is a voting member of BAFTA Cymru, an alumna of Creative UK's prestigious Female Founders Program and is a member of WFTV, the RTS and PACT.
