Former MasterChef winner Ross Burden dies aged 45
Ross Burden winner of 'MasterChef' has died aged 45. The 'Ready Steady Cook' star and the winner of the 1993 series of 'MasterChef' has passed away after suffering from cancer. Ross died in Auckland City Hospital, New Zealand on July 17 after contracting an infection during a bone marrow transplant. New Zealand MasterChef host Ross Burden dies, aged 45
New Zealand MasterChef host Ross Burden has died at the age of 45.

Burden died after an infection following treatment for cancer, The New Zealand Herald reports.

Burden's sister Kirsten Hughes said that while he was diagnosed with leukaemia last July, he died in Auckland City Hospital on Thursday, July 17 after the infection followed a bone marrow transplant.

"He's just a friendly, compassionate guy - nothing was too much trouble. He was my big, fantastic, incredible, larger-than-life brother," said Hughes.

The self-taught chef reached the final of the BBC MasterChef final in the UK in 1993 and went on to judge the first New Zealand series alongside Simon Gault and Ray McVinnie.

He also was a regular on Ready Steady Cook.

His former MasterChef colleague Gault said: "He was great to work with. He was never a minute without a laugh or a joke - great sense of humour."
