To many Batman fans, the ultimate version of the character on the screen was the voice interpretation by the late Kevin Conroy. Conroy played Batman in numerous adaptations, but it all started with Batman: The Animated Series, arguably the best animated series in history. Conroy passed away in 2022 due to cancer and his last performance as The Dark Knight will be in Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths – Part Three, which is a posthumous appearance that will once again reunite Conroy’s Batman with Mark Hamill’s Joker.

Although Conroy actually got the chance to appear as a live-action version of Batman in the Batwoman episode “Crisis on Infinite Earths: Part Two,” which was part of a major Arrowverse crossover, he was supposed to make another live-action appearance in the canceled one-season show, Gotham Knights, according to the series’ showrunners.

The late Kevin Conroy is known for his various incarnations of Batman in various mediums. He embodied and became the voice of the character starting from Batman: The Animated Series, and has since gone on to voice him in many Batman-related projects over the years. Gotham Knights only managed to last 13 episodes before being cancelled by The CW, but given the poor reviews and ratings, there wasn't too much of an outcry from DC fans.

A group of Batman's sidekicks protecting Gotham City in the wake of his death is a cool premise, but ditching the costumes gave the series a mid-2000s feel which alienated a lot of comic book readers from the start.

We've previously heard rumblings that Jensen Ackles was being eyed to play Batman. Now, showrunners James Stoteraux and Chad Fiveash have confirmed they were given the green light to include the Dark Knight in at least one episode.

American superhero show ‘Gotham Knights’ ended its run after Season 1, as The CW network decided not to renew the show for Season 2. Actor Misha Collins, who was playing District Attorney Harvey Dent in the series, had slowly begun transforming into his villain alter ego Two-Face, finally turning into him during the season finale.

However, as the show got scrapped after that moment, Collins said that he had hoped to further explore the character.

While the actor had earlier expressed his disappointment over the cancellation of the show on social media, speaking to Deadline, he said: “Well, as the series winds up, we’re really just getting introduced to the Two Face character, and it would have been rich and rewarding to have explored him devolving down the road and the inevitable fights to bring Harvey back, which would, of course, have involved a tremendous amount of inner turmoil.”

On the night of the drama’s series finale on the CW, Abrams — who created the DC Comics-based drama with Chad Fiveash and James Patrick Stoteraux — posted a heartfelt message Tuesday for her beloved “BatBrats” who were about to see their show end after one season.

It’s curtains for “Gotham Knights” at The CW. The network will not move forward with a second season of the DC series, Variety has learned.

The series was absent from a statement of upcoming programming from the CW, which announced renewals of both “Superman & Lois” and “All American: Homecoming” for the 2023-2024 broadcast season.

The news about the future of “Gotham Knights” comes more than two weeks ahead of the date that the series is slated to air what would now be its series finale. The program premiered on March 4 and was set to conclude its 13-episode first season on June 27.

From Warner Bros. Television, “Gotham Knights” follows Bruce Wayne’s rebellious adopted son, who forms a team with the children of Batman’s enemies. Chad Fiveash, James Stoteraux and Natalie Abrams co-created the series and served as executive producers alongside Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and David Madden of Berlanti Productions.

The CW has canceled Gotham Knights after one season.

The DC Comics-based drama was one of three scripted series whose fate had been left in limbo along with Superman & Lois and All American: Homecoming, which both are being renewed. A total of four existing CW dramas will make it to next season, along with previously renewed All American and Walker.

Gotham Knights has been a respectable ratings performer and, under different circumstances, could’ve made it to a second season but, with the business model of the CW changing under its new ownership, only a handful of highly rated (by CW standards) existing scripted series could make the cut.

“We love all those shows, and they all do very well for us in different ways” the CW’s Entertainment President Brad Schwartz said last month about Superman & Lois, All American: Homecoming and Gotham Knights.

The CW is going through its catalog of shows amid some decisions in which the new fall schedule would rely heavily on Canadian shows and unscripted television. The network has had a history of hits with superhero properties and drama series geared toward the teen market. Some of their biggest shows came from the Arrowverse, which consisted of Arrow, Superman & Lois, Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow, The Flash, Batgirl, etc. The CW has since canceled a number of them while others naturally come to an end, but the current slate isn’t necessarily on solid ground despite some being winners.

The CW has ordered to series all three of its pilots: DC Comics-based Gotham Knights, Walker: Independence and The Winchesters.

All three are based on underlying IP: Supernatural prequel The Winchesters, Walker origin story Walker: Independence and Gotham Knights. Because of their pedigree, solid execution and the fact that this is half the number of pilots the CW has normally picked up over the past decade, all had been major contenders from the start.

The Winchesters is said to be the strongest attempt at a Supernatural spinoff to date; it is the first to go to series. Gotham Knights‘ pickup comes as the CW canceled three other DC series: Batwoman, which was set in a similar world, Naomi and Legends of Tomorrow. And Walker: Independence has been getting praise for its expansive Western feel.

“Batwoman” has been canceled at The CW after three seasons.

Series showrunner Caroline Dries shared the news on Twitter, writing “Just got the sad news that #Batwoman will not be seeing an S4. I am bummed, but full of gratitude. What an honor to make 51 episodes. So many inspiring, brilliant people contributed to this series. Thank you producers, cast and crew. Thank you, fans! We love you.”

“Batwoman” began airing on The CW in 2019, albeit with a different lead actress. Ruby Rose originally starred in the series, but exited after the first season. She later claimed that unsafe working conditions led to her exit, as well as issues with co-star Dougray Scott.

Javicia Leslie was then brought in as a new character to take over the mantle of Batwoman. The show also starred Rachel Skarsten, Meagan Tandy, Nicole Kang, Camrus Johnson, Victoria Cartagena, Robin Givens, and Nick Creegan.

Natalie Abrams, the entertainment journalist-turned TV writer behind The CW’s Supergirl and upcoming Gotham Knights, has signed with CAA for representation in all areas.

Abrams comes to CAA shortly after The CW ordered the pilot for Gotham Knights, which Abrams developed alongside Batwoman executive producers Chad Fiveash and James Stoteraux. The series is is produced by Warner Bros.TV and Greg Berlanti.

She previously served as an executive story editor on Batwoman and wrote on The CW’s Supergirl and All American. Abrams also penned a Batwoman tie-in comic for DC Comics, which will be released in the spring.

In addition to writing for TV, Abrams was previously an entertainment journalist penning stories for outlets including TV Guide and Entertainment Weekly. While at EW, she co-hosted Sirius Xm’s weekly live radio show, Superhero Insider.

She continues to be repped by attorney Patti Felker at Felker Toczek Suddleson Abramson.

The CW has started making pilot orders.

Supernatural prequel The Winchesters, a Walker spinoff and DC universe-set Gotham Knights all have been picked up to pilot.

The move means that both stars of The CW’s Supernatural will be producing pilots for the upcoming season: Jensen Ackles with The Winchesters and Jared Padalecki with Walker: Independence.

The trio of pilot orders is unsurprising – Deadline’s Nellie Andreeva pointed to all three likely making the cut in her Pilot Season 2022 rundown. The network also handed an additional six scripts to the female-fronted Zorro series project.

“Gotham” actress Victoria Cartagena has been cast as the same character, Renee Montoya, in The CW’s “Batwoman,” TheWrap has confirmed.

However, the two shows will not connect with the cast, and Cartagena will be playing a different version of the same DC Comics character.

Montoya, who will appear in the upcoming third season, is a former Gotham City police officer who left the force when she could no longer stomach the corruption and now runs the “freaks division.” The character is described as “righteous and pragmatic” in her “very personal (and mysterious) mission to help clean the streets of Gotham in the right way, by whatever means necessary.”

The character was most recently portrayed by Rosie Perez in 2020’s “Birds of Prey,” directed by Cathy Yan.

Cartagena joins a cast which includes Javicia Leslie, Rachel Skarsten, Meagan Tandy, Nicole Kang and Camrus Johnson. The series is produced by Berlanti Productions...

We’ve learned who will play Black Mask in the CW’s Batwoman. Nikita alum Peter Outerbridge is set to recur as the DC villain for the remainder of Season 2.

Outerbridge’s Roman Sionis, aka Black Mask, will be a major part of the storyline through the rest of the season. By day, Roman is a pragmatic and charismatic CEO who plays the “white knight” against Gotham’s corrupt systems. As Black Mask, an evil mastermind with a deep hatred of The Crows and masked vigilantes, he is willing to tear down Gotham to enact his revenge.

“Batwoman” has cast Wallis Day in the role of an “altered” Kate Kane, the part formerly played by the show’s now-departed star, Ruby Rose.

Season 2 of The CW superhero series has centered around Ryan Wilder (played by Javicia Leslie) taking up the cowl as the new Batwoman, amid the mysterious disappearance of Kate Kane.

On Sunday’s episode, the audience discovered that the missing Kate Kane is alive but bandaged and unrecognizable. Fans will find out in subsequent episodes that she is bandaged due to injuries she sustained in the crash and that she is being held hostage.

“Krypton” alum Day will play this “altered version” of Kate Kane, a representative for The CW told TheWrap, with the second half of “Batwoman” Season 2 revealing where Kate has been, and what that means for her character going forward.

The CW is developing a new hour-long drama titled “The Cove,” the network said Monday.

The story is written by “Vampire Diaries” executive producers Chad Fiveash and James Stoteraux. Here’s the official logline:

“This soapy, swashbuckling adventure follows estranged sisters in the aftermath of their father’s death as they return to the Caribbean resort island they frequented as a family, only to discover the sun-drenched paradise is hiding many secrets, including the missing treasure that was their father’s obsession and may ultimately hold the key to eternal life.”
