To many Batman fans, the ultimate version of the character on the screen was the voice interpretation by the late Kevin Conroy. Conroy played Batman in numerous adaptations, but it all started with Batman: The Animated Series, arguably the best animated series in history. Conroy passed away in 2022 due to cancer and his last performance as The Dark Knight will be in Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths – Part Three, which is a posthumous appearance that will once again reunite Conroy’s Batman with Mark Hamill’s Joker.
Although Conroy actually got the chance to appear as a live-action version of Batman in the Batwoman episode “Crisis on Infinite Earths: Part Two,” which was part of a major Arrowverse crossover, he was supposed to make another live-action appearance in the canceled one-season show, Gotham Knights, according to the series’ showrunners.

The late Kevin Conroy is known for his various incarnations of Batman in various mediums. He embodied and became the voice of the character starting from Batman: The Animated Series, and has since gone on to voice him in many Batman-related projects over the years. He transitioned to appearing as Bruce Wayne in the Arrowverse in 2019.

He starred as an aged and damaged Batman in the episode Crisis on Infinite Earths: Part Two alongside Ruby Rose’s Batwoman. Fans were surprised with the dark iteration of the character and were impressed with Conroy’s live-action performance. The actor was supposed to return as the character in the show Gotham Knights but was unable to do so due to his illness.

Gotham Knights only managed to last 13 episodes before being cancelled by The CW, but given the poor reviews and ratings, there wasn't too much of an outcry from DC fans.
A group of Batman's sidekicks protecting Gotham City in the wake of his death is a cool premise, but ditching the costumes gave the series a mid-2000s feel which alienated a lot of comic book readers from the start.
We've previously heard rumblings that Jensen Ackles was being eyed to play Batman. Now, showrunners James Stoteraux and Chad Fiveash have confirmed they were given the green light to include the Dark Knight in at least one episode.
However, they had someone different in mind to don the cape and cowl.
Talking on The Showrunner Whisperer (via Multiverse of Color), Stoteraux explained, "There was a scene from The Dark Knight Returns that we wanted to do. It was Robin’s...

American superhero show ‘Gotham Knights’ ended its run after Season 1, as The CW network decided not to renew the show for Season 2. Actor Misha Collins, who was playing District Attorney Harvey Dent in the series, had slowly begun transforming into his villain alter ego Two-Face, finally turning into him during the season finale.
However, as the show got scrapped after that moment, Collins said that he had hoped to further explore the character.
While the actor had earlier expressed his disappointment over the cancellation of the show on social media, speaking to Deadline, he said: “Well, as the series winds up, we’re really just getting introduced to the Two Face character, and it would have been rich and rewarding to have explored him devolving down the road and the inevitable fights to bring Harvey back, which would, of course, have involved a tremendous amount of inner turmoil.”
He added:...

Gotham Knights co-creator Natalie Abrams didn’t want to leave without saying goodbye.
On the night of the drama’s series finale on the CW, Abrams — who created the DC Comics-based drama with Chad Fiveash and James Patrick Stoteraux — posted a heartfelt message Tuesday for her beloved “BatBrats” who were about to see their show end after one season.
The series from DC, Warner Bros. TV and Greg Berlanti Prods. was a respectable ratings performer but was canceled to make way for the network’s new (see: cheaper) business model.
“Gotham Knights is coming to an end,” Abrams said on Twitter. “It’s taken a while to accept this fact, to grieve the loss of something so unique and ethereal as this first project. From the moment I pitched Greg Berlanti the two sentences that would become this oddball underdog of a show, it no longer belonged to me.

The upcoming season finale of Gotham Knights will be the last-ever episode of The CW's superhero drama.
After Gotham Knights was canceled after one season, there were questions about whether the series was being shopped to other outlets.
Showrunners James Stoteraux and Chad Fiveash have now confirmed a push to find a new home, but a deal could not be reached.
As a result, fans will be forced to say goodbye to the show on June 27, when the final episode airs.
"Since many of you have been asking about the possibility of Gotham Knights finding a new home, we wanted to let you know that, over the last few months, our producing partners at Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. Discovery had been working extremely hard to get the show picked up or possibly even moved to a new network," they wrote on social media.

It’s curtains for “Gotham Knights” at The CW. The network will not move forward with a second season of the DC series, Variety has learned.
The series was absent from a statement of upcoming programming from the CW, which announced renewals of both “Superman & Lois” and “All American: Homecoming” for the 2023-2024 broadcast season.
The news about the future of “Gotham Knights” comes more than two weeks ahead of the date that the series is slated to air what would now be its series finale. The program premiered on March 4 and was set to conclude its 13-episode first season on June 27.
From Warner Bros. Television, “Gotham Knights” follows Bruce Wayne’s rebellious adopted son, who forms a team with the children of Batman’s enemies. Chad Fiveash, James Stoteraux and Natalie Abrams co-created the series and served as executive producers alongside Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and David Madden of Berlanti Productions.

The CW has canceled Gotham Knights after one season.
The DC Comics-based drama was one of three scripted series whose fate had been left in limbo along with Superman & Lois and All American: Homecoming, which both are being renewed. A total of four existing CW dramas will make it to next season, along with previously renewed All American and Walker.
Gotham Knights has been a respectable ratings performer and, under different circumstances, could’ve made it to a second season but, with the business model of the CW changing under its new ownership, only a handful of highly rated (by CW standards) existing scripted series could make the cut.
“We love all those shows, and they all do very well for us in different ways” the CW’s Entertainment President Brad Schwartz said last month about Superman & Lois, All American: Homecoming and Gotham Knights.

The CW is going through its catalog of shows amid some decisions in which the new fall schedule would rely heavily on Canadian shows and unscripted television. The network has had a history of hits with superhero properties and drama series geared toward the teen market. Some of their biggest shows came from the Arrowverse, which consisted of Arrow, Superman & Lois, Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow, The Flash, Batgirl, etc. The CW has since canceled a number of them while others naturally come to an end, but the current slate isn’t necessarily on solid ground despite some being winners.
Deadline is now reporting that programming for the channel is looking at the expense of these shows like Superman & Lois, Gotham Knights, and All-American: Homecoming since they cost a lot of money to produce and the network doesn’t have streaming rights. Brad Schwartz, the President of Entertainment at The CW,...

Gotham Knights rises on The CW tonight and while the Arrowverse is no longer with us — nor is Batman, in this case — DC Comics fans do (finally) have something to cheer for. Along with the fabulous Superman & Lois, which precedes it by an hour, this latest entry into SuperTV is a fun ride through familiar territory with a new twist. And we’re into it. Pulling in deep cuts from the comics, Knights centers on Turner Hayes, the adopted son of Bruce Wayne. Just don’t expect a billionaire playboy redux. “He’s nice,” offers Oscar Morgan, the instantly likable British actor behind the scion of Wayne-funded privilege. “He wants to be liked by anyone that will like him really, and he’s well-intentioned.” Admitting that the loner Turner “definitely needs to be ...

There is no Batman in Gotham Knights, unless you count a brief wide shot of Bruce Wayne in his office and a closer one of his bloodied corpse on the sidewalk. That is, indeed, the whole point of Gotham Knights: The series is set in the panicked aftermath of the Caped Crusader’s death, as his adopted son Turner (Oscar Morgan) tries to catch his dad’s killer and in the process emerges as a hero in his own right.
But even in his absence, Batman casts a long shadow — one Gotham Knights struggles to get out from under in the six hourlong episodes sent to critics. It’s Batman’s work that links nearly all the characters, Batman’s death that finally brings them all together, Batman’s history they’re made to sift through and Batman’s legacy they work to live up to. “We were blown away by Sunny’s audition for ‘Gotham Knights,'” said executive producers and showrunners Chad Fiveash and James Stoteraux, and co-executive producer Natalie Abrams. “It was immediately clear she had the expansive emotional range needed to play this deeply polarizing character. And then we were delighted to discover that Sunny’s husband is an actor who has many fans among our cast, crew and writers. Ethan’s brought Arthur to life in such rich, delightfully disturbing ways. Once Upon a Time stars Ethan Embry and Sunny Mabrey are set to recur in Season 1 of The CW‘s upcoming series Gotham Knights.
Mabrey will make her first appearance in Episode 5 as Crystal Brown. Elegant and eye-catching, as the wife of a local celebrity, Crystal exudes a natural, camera-ready charisma. However, to those closest to her, Crystal runs warm as sunshine one minute, and brutally ice cold the next, because she’s battling a secret addiction that could ruin the lives of her entire family.
Embry will debut in Episode 6 as Arthur Brown. The meticulous and eccentric host of a Jeopardy-like game show, Arthur is always the smartest person in the room — and he knows it. The CW has ordered to series all three of its pilots: DC Comics-based Gotham Knights, Walker: Independence and The Winchesters.
All three are based on underlying IP: Supernatural prequel The Winchesters, Walker origin story Walker: Independence and Gotham Knights. Because of their pedigree, solid execution and the fact that this is half the number of pilots the CW has normally picked up over the past decade, all had been major contenders from the start.
2022 The CW Pilots & Series Orders
The Winchesters is said to be the strongest attempt at a Supernatural spinoff to date; it is the first to go to series. Gotham Knights‘ pickup comes as the CW canceled three other DC series: Batwoman, which was set in a similar world, Naomi and Legends of Tomorrow. And Walker: Independence has been getting praise for its expansive Western feel.

“Batwoman” has been canceled at The CW after three seasons.
Series showrunner Caroline Dries shared the news on Twitter, writing “Just got the sad news that #Batwoman will not be seeing an S4. I am bummed, but full of gratitude. What an honor to make 51 episodes. So many inspiring, brilliant people contributed to this series. Thank you producers, cast and crew. Thank you, fans! We love you.”
“Batwoman” began airing on The CW in 2019, albeit with a different lead actress. Ruby Rose originally starred in the series, but exited after the first season. She later claimed that unsafe working conditions led to her exit, as well as issues with co-star Dougray Scott.
Javicia Leslie was then brought in as a new character to take over the mantle of Batwoman. The show also starred Rachel Skarsten, Meagan Tandy, Nicole Kang, Camrus Johnson, Victoria Cartagena, Robin Givens, and Nick Creegan.

The CW has started making pilot orders.

However, the two shows will not connect with the cast, and Cartagena will be playing a different version of the same DC Comics character.
