Stephen A. Smith Is Getting Murdered on ‘Law & Order’ and He Couldn’t Be Happier
Image
Stephen A. Smith is fulfilling a lifelong dream: The legendary sportscaster is going to be on “Law & Order.”

A diehard fan of the series, Smith is set to appear in the episode airing on May 8. The twist? He’s not playing himself, but rather the victim in the episode’s murder investigation. The official logline for the episode states:

“A tough-love sports agent (Smith) is found stabbed to death, leaving the squad with a trail of suspects who wanted him gone. Despite a wealth of evidence, Price (Hugh Dancy) and Maroun (Odelya Halevi) worry that a lack of motive will tank their case.”

In an interview with Variety, Smith said that he jumped at the chance when he was approached about being on the show. “One of the writers, her name was Pam Wechsler, I ran across her in Los Angeles,” Smith said. “She walked right up to me and she said,...

Scott Bakula, Lucas Black Should Thank CBS for Rejecting a Radical NCIS Spinoff, Choosing NCIS: New Orleans Instead
Image
NCIS achieved only what a few television franchises could do, with widespread acclaim and lasting popularity. The procedural drama is filled with charismatic characters that have kept the audiences invested for decades.

Diane Neal in NCIS: New Orleans | CBS

It’s a franchise that’s built on its creators’ ability to expand and innovate, which led to several of its successful spin-offs. However, not every attempt was a success, and some ceased to exist just after a few episodes.

CBS shelved NCIS: Red — A risk that had no payoff A still from NCIS: Los Angeles | CBS

In 2013, we were introduced to a backdoor pilot for NCIS: Red and it aired in NCIS: Los Angeles’ fourth season. The series was set to be about a mobile team of agents who would solve crimes across the country, as they lived and worked together in close proximity.

Erin Moriarty's 10 Best Movies And TV Shows
Image
Erin Moriarty got her start in the industry when she was just 11 years old, and her best movies and TV shows run her entire timeline from her work as a teenager up to now. Because Moriarity was born and raised in New York, she is trained in theater as well as on-screen, but her professional work has all been for TV and film. Though one of her earliest roles was in the soap opera One Life To Live, the soap does not make it into her best work.

Soap operas, however, are notorious for being like bootcamp for actors just starting out in the industry since work on a soap is incredibly fast-paced and takes place nearly every day. Moriarty likely got a television crash course that has served her well. Most of her roles have been of a supporting nature in her career so far, but she has demonstrated...

Casey Novak's Tragic Law & Order: Svu Departure Explained
Image
Casey Novak (Diane Neal) was a long-time cast member of Law & Order: Svu with some memorable and intense storylines, and her character was written off the show in a suitably dramatic fashion. Law & Order: Svu has the notable claim to fame of being the longest-running show in Dick Wolf's extensive TV universe. For 25 seasons, the ensemble cast of Svu has investigated hundreds of horrific sex crimes in the New York City precinct and even after it seems like they've seen the worst, another criminal comes along to shock them.

But it isn't just the detectives and police officers who have the goal of apprehending the city's worst. There are dozens of people who want to protect the innocent just as much as the NYPD does. The District Attorney's office and the ADAs on Law & Order: Svu have a particularly critical role in the series, and each...

Why Ada Casey Novak Left Law & Order: Svu
Image
The Law & Order franchise introduced audiences to many beloved characters, from homicide detectives like Lennie Briscoe and Ada Jack McCoy, as well as detectives Olivia Benson and Elliot Stabler in the Law & Order spin-off, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. Special Victims Unit, much like the original Law & Order series, featured multiple characters each season, some of which were more memorable than others. And one character that many fans still remember fondly is Ada Casey Novak, who joined Law & Order: Svu in Season 5.

Casey Novak, played by Diane Neal, joined the Svu squad as their permanent Ada after long-time prosecutor Alex Cabot had to go into witness protection. Novak soon became a beloved character in Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and she quickly found her footing within the team. Yet, like most characters in the franchise, Casey Novak eventually had to say goodbye, departing the...

“No one wants to be a victim”: The ‘Law & Order’ Star Who Openly Called Dick Wolf’s Creation ‘Propaganda’ After John Oliver’s Remarks
Image
After John Oliver’s critical comments about the Law & Order franchise, one Svu star openly admitted the ‘copaganda’ in the show. Dick Wolf’s franchise paints the police force as these highly competent cops who would do anything in their capacity to seek justice for their victims. While actress Diane Neal shared that Svu is a spectacular show, she acknowledged that crime victims are often treated horribly.

Neal supported Oliver’s take on the show in one of the episodes of Last Week Tonight, sharing that Oliver brought attention to the reality. Oliver put the major blame on creator Dick Wolf, who wanted to portray a positive outlook for the cops and make the show a good recruiting tool for the NYPD.

Law & Order: Svu Season 25 Video Confirms One Big Change To Kelli Giddish's Rollins
Image
Kelli Giddish is returning to Law & Order: Svu season 25 after her controversial exit, which received backlash. Amanda Rollins, Giddish's character, may have already given birth in the new season based on her lack of a baby bump. The Manhattan Svu team will be understaffed in the upcoming season, making it likely that Rollins will return to help Benson.

A big change is coming Amanda Rollins' way when Kelli Giddish returns in Law & Order: Svu season 25. In arguably one of the most shocking and controversial exits in the long-running NBC and Wolf Entertainment police procedural, it was announced in late 2022 that Giddish was exiting the series. This was after more than a decade of playing one of Olivia Benson's most trusted team members.

Following her brief return in the recent Law & Order crossover finale, Giddish is reunited with her old co-workers as she comes back for Law & Order: Svu...

Mariska Hargitay Remembers ‘Law & Order: Svu’ Co-Star Richard Belzer: “He Was Family”

Mariska Hargitay is once again remembering Richard Belzer, her late Law & Order: Svu co-star, as a special “heart and soul” who as both an actor and comedian was “brilliant.”

While appearing on NBC’s Today to discuss the latest episode of one of TV’s longest-running series as well as celebrate longtime colleague and friend Ice-t’s recent Hollywood Walk of Fame honor, the actress opened up about Belzer, who died on Feb. 19 at 78.

“What a heart and soul,” she told Savannah Guthrie. “He was family and taught me so much about taking risks and creativity and trust.”

Hargitay added that while working on the series with her, from which he retired as a series regular in 2016, “he brought so much joy to the set.” According to the actress and EP, he also — despite being an “acerbic, quick-witted, brilliant” mind — had a soft spot for children, whom he would “melt” at the sight of.

‘Svu’ Alum Diane Neal Urges Series to Showcase How Rape Cases Are Really Handled

“Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” alum Diane Neal is weighing in on the debate of glorifying law enforcement.

The long-running Dick Wolf series kicks off its 24th season on NBC this fall, but former cast member Neal is now responding to the criticisms that “Last Week Tonight” host John Oliver voiced last week.

“Government and press reports have repeatedly shown that New York’s actual sex crimes unit is set up to fail victims of sexual assault, and its case closure rate is a long way from Elliot Stabler’s fictitious 97 percent,” the “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver” host stated last Friday. “The NYPD’s official figures show that they only close about a third of sexual assault cases.”

Oliver added, “Instead of depicting a flawed system riddled with structural racism, the show presents exceptionally competent cops working within a largely fair framework that mostly convicts white people.

A former Law & Order actress agrees with a controversial piece about the show’s flaws.

Diane Neal, who played Assistant District Attorney Casey Novak on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, spoke about John Oliver’s now-famous critique of the franchise.

Their stories had Neal admitting she felt “embarrassed” about her work on the show and its presentation of police work.

Her words fuel the growing discussion of Law & Order’s view of police work and the public perception of the victims.

Circle of Deception Sneak Peek: Sometimes Murder Doesn't Pay!
Tahmoh Penikett and Diane Neal in Circle of Deception (2021)
Nothing is worse than when crime doesn't pay off, especially when that crime is murder.

On Saturday, March 6, Lifetime continues its Ripped from the Headlines series with Circle of Deception. It's an Ann Rule inspired thriller starring none other than Law & Order: Svu's finest, Diane Neal.

It also serves as the directorial debut of Lifetime veteran actress Ashley Williams. Lifetime is always a network whose focus is on uplifting women and giving them opportunities.

During this Women's History Month, it's lovely to see that they're as passionate about helping women expand their worlds beyond the camera as they are in front of it.

If you previously missed the Circe of Deception Promo, then you should know that this is a wonderfully twisted true-crime tale of a scandalous murder that takes place in a small Rhode Island community that changed everything.

Law & Order Svu: 5 Reasons Barba Was The Best Ada (& 5 Reasons Why Novak Was A Close Second)
Tony Goldwyn, Maura Tierney, Hugh Dancy, Reid Scott, Mehcad Brooks, and Odelya Halevi in Law & Order (1990)

Throughout the show's time on television, it has had six ADAs with Rafael Barba (Raúl Esparza) being a fan favorite who made his first debut in season 15.

Julianna Margulies in The Good Wife (2009)
The Good Wife First Look: Alicia and Peter, K-i-s-s-i-n-g?
Julianna Margulies in The Good Wife (2009)
When last we saw The Good Wife‘s Alicia and Peter Florrick, they were engaged in a scathing, no-holds-barred argument in a service hallway of a Chicago hotel. (Ok, yes, the Illinois governor eventually caved in and showed up at his wife’s campaign kickoff for State’s Attorney, but it wasn’t exactly the Portrait of a Blissful Political Marriage.)

In the following first-look images from the show’s Nov. 16 episode (9/8c on CBS), however, temperatures look decidedly warmer — at least while the cameras are rolling, anyway. There’s laughter, a smooch and… a campaign manager (Steven Pasquale) to keep things running smoothly.

Casting is now underway — courtesy of the same folks who populated Arrow and The Flash — for CBS’ Supergirl series, and TVLine has details on exactly what (and who) the DC Comics-based drama is looking for in two of its lead roles.

For Kara Zor-El aka Kara Danvers, the show is eyeing Caucasian females, age 22 to 26, to play 24. As the series’ mythology goes, Kara at age 12 was sent from her dying home planet of Krypton to Earth, where she was taken in by the Danvers, a foster family who taught her to be careful with her extraordinary powers. After repressing...

In the CBS hitcom’s Nov. 6 episode, “The Prom Equivalency,” the gang recreates a high school prom on the roof of the guys’ apartment building. But as with any prom, jitters are to be had — namely by Sheldon, who feels pressure to participate in all the typical romantic traditions.

NCIS Fave Diane Neal to Bring Agent Borin to NCIS: New Orleans
Wilmer Valderrama, Rocky Carroll, Gary Cole, Katrina Law, Sean Murray, Brian Dietzen, and Diona Reasonover in NCIS (2003)
One of NCIS fans’ favorite recurring characters is bound for the Big Easy.

TVLine has learned exclusively that Diane Neal, on the heels of putting in her sixth appearance on NCIS earlier this month, next will guest-star as Agent Borin on the most-watched drama’s new spin-off, NCIS: New Orleans.

“The U.S. Coast Guard has a huge presence in New Orleans so to send Cgis Special Agent Abigail Borin down to help is an added bonus,” showrunner Gary Glasberg tells TVLine. “Diane Neal is a talented, fascinating, multi-layered actress and we’re thrilled to add her to the Nola mix.

'NCIS' Recap: Tony's Blast from the Past Arrives
Wilmer Valderrama, Rocky Carroll, Gary Cole, Katrina Law, Sean Murray, Brian Dietzen, and Diona Reasonover in NCIS (2003)
Last time on NCIS, Gibbs and Cgis Agent Abigail Borin (Diane Neal) reunited to stop some pirates in a case involving stolen money from the drug cartels. I love Borin and hope we see her more often. We also had a chance to see McGee take the reins and lead the investigation from NCIS headquarters.

In this week's episode, "Parental Guidance Suggested," the team investigates the murder of a Navy commander's wife and discuss their Halloween costumes. The NCIS Halloween episodes are always awesome.

'NCIS' Recap: Gibbs and Borin Reunite to Stop Pirates
Wilmer Valderrama, Rocky Carroll, Gary Cole, Katrina Law, Sean Murray, Brian Dietzen, and Diona Reasonover in NCIS (2003)
Well, NCIS fans seem a bit divided after last week's episode temporarily paired Tony with FBI Special Agent Leia Pendergast. It seemed that there was a hint of chemistry between the duo, but the thought of Tony romancing anyone but Ziva is still a touchy subject with many fans.

This week's episode of NCIS, "The San Dominick," finds Gibbs investigating a murder at sea during a joint NCIS and Coast Guard training mission. This brings back one of my favorite characters, Cgis Agent Abigail Borin, played by guest star Diane Neal. Hopefully, we can all get on board with that (pun intended). Jim Beaver (Supernatural) also guest stars as Captain Tom O'Rourke.
