There’s an interesting looking Gene Roddenberry biopic in development called The Pilot, which chronicles the story of how Star Trek came to be.
The film is being developed by James Darling, who cut together a proof-of-concept trailer for the independent film using footage from other films, concept art, location photos, storyboards, and some archival footage.
There’s a lot of crap that Roddenberry had to go through to actually get Star Trek made. There’s a pretty incredible history with this series, and it would make a great story for a film. It’s awesome to see someone actually attempting to make it happen.
I came across the news at AICN, and they say the script is outstanding. The filmmakers are still in the process of getting financing, and they are currently making their final big push. The concept trailer basically lays out the size and scope of the...

Star Wars: The Force Awakens doesn't even come out for another month, but between the teasers and trailers and international trailers and TV spots, it turns out we've already seen more than four minutes of the movie so far — that's 3.21 percent of the whole dang thing! Now James Darling of Science vs. Cinema has assembled all that footage into one coherent trailer, so you can fanboy out more efficiently than ever. Even if the other 97 percent of the movie turns out to be Jar Jar Binks's dissertation on midichlorians, you'll still have this to hold on to.

Documentaries aren't normally gala closing-night picks for film festivals, but you couldn't find a better movie to end Fantastic Fest this year than Comic-Con Episode Four: A Fan's Hope. The frothy, upbeat doc from filmmaker Morgan Spurlock celebrated fandom -- and not exclusively, or even primarily movie fandom -- with a focus on a variety of attendees at Comic-Con San Diego.
Wait. Stop. I know what you're thinking. You've seen Spurlock's documentaries and you're wondering how he's managed to wedge himself into this particular scenario. But I bet that for most people, if you didn't know Spurlock directed this movie, you would never guess. The Super Size Me filmmaker doesn't appear onscreen at all -- you don't even hear him in a voiceover. This time, he lets many other voices and faces, both well-known and newcomers -- tell the story.
And it's a nice story, respectful of everyone who swarms...

Earlier today I had the extreme pleasure of being able to attend the Us Premiere of Morgan Spurlock’s touching Documentary entitled Comic-Con Episode Four: A Fan’s Hope. The film follows a week in the life of 7 individuals as they attend the biggest gathering of geeks and fanboys on the planet known as Comic-Con.
With Spurlock’s involvement, this film could easily been have been an 85 minute diatribe on the awkward social skills of basement dwellers, but instead, Spurlock abandons that sort of harsh critiquing that made Super Size Me so famous, and lets the film and its subjects speak for themselves. Interestingly enough, the only bit of Spurlock you see is is name in the credits. Separating each disparate story are clips of fandom icons such as Kevin Smith, Joss Whedon, Stan Lee, and Frank Miller, who each give their unique perspective on this one week a year...

Comic-Con Episode Four: A Fan's Hope Directed by: Morgan Spurlock Written by: Morgan Spurlock, Joss Whedon, Jeremy Chilnook Starring: Skip Harvey, Eric Henson, Chuck Rozanski, James Darling, Se Young Kang Fantastic Fest 2011 featured Morgan Spurlock’s new documentary Comic-Con Episode Four: A Fan’s Hope as one of its closing night films. It seems like a risky venture to try to chronicle an event that has swelled to over 125,000 participants in recent years, but Spurlock wisely chooses to humanize the film by following a handful of fans and participants. The result is a surprisingly touching and funny film. If you’ve grown tired of Spurlock (who seemed to be everywhere a few years ago), never fear. He does not appear in the film, so unlike Michael Moore’s films, this one is truly about the people it features, not the celebrity filmmaker. Briefly, Comic-Con Episode Four introduces us to a...

When I heard that Morgan Spurlock had a documentary at Toronto called Comic-Con: Episode IV — A Fan’s Hope, I knew I wanted to go, and I thought I had a good idea of what I was in for: Spurlock, with his Gen X Michael Moore wisenheimer prankishness, showing up at Comic-Con to interview droolers in shiny white Star Wars stormtrooper armor with an affectionate camera- ready wink of “Can you believe this?” condescension.
The first surprise of Comic-Con: Episode IV is that it’s the first Morgan Spurlock movie that Spurlock isn’t in. The second surprise is that it’s the most entertaining,...
