Netflix’s Fear Street: Prom Queen slasher brings blood, secrets and ’80s vibes
Image
Are you ready for slasher season, Netflix fans? With the summer movie releases (and into October), we can expect a bunch of horror films. Some of these will be quite good, as horror is a relatively underrated genre.

Of course, it isn't for everyone. Many don't like to see gruesome murders, and that is entirely fair. Even though the filmmaking might be brilliant, it is difficult to get past all the gore. Being scary and chilling is good, but being gross to be gross is bad.

The good thing about most R.L. Stine adaptations is that they take the intentional campiness of the original material, add the gore, and give us something relatively short and entertaining. For instance, Fear Street: Prom Queen, which debuts on Netflix on Friday, May 23, is only an hour and 28 minutes long.

Netflix's Fear Street: Prom Queen will be arriving soon

Goosebumps: The Vanishing's Letterman & Winston On Anthology Season, Casting David Schwimmer & Choosing Books
Image
Rob Letterman and Hilary Winston are taking their R.L. Stine-based hit show in a new direction with Goosebumps: The Vanishing. Letterman, whose history with the franchise goes back to directing the 2015 Jack Black-led movie adaptation of the horror novels, co-developed the show with Nicholas Stoller, whose filmography ranges from helming the fan-favorite comedy Forgetting Sarah Marshall to co-creating and directing the acclaimed Apple TV+ comedy show Platonic. Winston, whose producorial career took off with My Name is Earl, was a co-showrunner with Letterman and Stoller on season 1 and is now sole showrunner on the new season.

Goosebumps: The Vanishing shifts the focus away from the season 1 finale and to New York City, putting its focus on botanist and single father Anthony as his twin teen children come to stay with him for the summer. Anthony, having been focused on discovering the answers to his brother's disappearance when they were teenagers,...

David Schwimmer May Be Out of His Mind in ‘Goosebumps: The Vanishing’ Trailer
Image
David Schwimmer may be out of his mind as he begins acting incredibly erratic in the official trailer Goosebumps: The Vanishing.

“I want you to have a really fun and also safe summer out here,” Schwimmer’s Anthony tells his twins Cece (Jayden Bartels) and Devin (Sam McCarthy) at the beginning of the trailer when they arrive at his Brooklyn home for the summer in the Goosebumps anthology series‘ second season. “I only have one rule: Stay out of the basement.”

As things begin to go awry, Anthony may be behind it all as he investigates his brother’s death when they were kids and went missing.

According to the series logline, “A threat is stirring, and [the kids] quickly realize that dark secrets are among them, triggering a chain of events that unravel a profound mystery. As they delve into the unknown, Cece, Devin and their friends — Alex (Francesca Noel), Cj...

Cedric Burnside Expresses His ‘Hill Country Love’
Image
When Cedric Burnside accepted a Grammy in the traditional blues category for his album I Be Trying in 2022, it wasn’t just just a victory for him – it was also the first time any Mississippi Hill Country blues artist had nabbed a golden gramophone.

Music aficionados and tastemakers had long celebrated the blues music of northern Mississippi, though. A third-generation Hill Country bluesman, Cedric learned by watching and then playing alongside his grandfather, R.L. Burnside, whom he affectionately calls his “big daddy,” as well as Junior Kimbrough, who referred to...

Fear Street 4: R.L. Stine confirms the next film in Netflix franchise is based on The Prom Queen
Image
Director Leigh Janiak and the Netflix streaming service brought us a really fun horror event back in the summer of 2021 with the Fear Street trilogy. Three films that were filmed back-to-back-to-back and then released over the course of three weeks – those films being Fear Street Part One: 1994, Fear Street Part Two: 1978, and Fear Street Part Three: 1666. It was an instant franchise, and had the potential to lead to many more films… because, after all, author R.L. Stine has written over 100 books that have been published under the various Fear Street banners. A couple months ago, Scott Stuber, the head of Netflix Film, said they were developing a new standalone Fear Street project. Now Stine has taken to social media to reveal that the fourth Fear Street movie is going to be based on his 1992 book The Prom Queen!

While Janiak’s trilogy wasn’t directly based on any specific Fear Street book,...

What Critics And Fans Are Saying About Five Nights At Freddy's
Image
"Five Nights At Freddy's" just premiered in theaters and on Peacock, and the adaptation of a much-loved horror video game is already garnering strong reactions from fans and critics alike. While some folks flocking to theaters have been waiting nearly a decade to see the animatronic antics of Freddy Fazbear and his murderous friends on screen, newcomers to the franchise are also getting the chance to see what the fuss (or should I say fuzz?) is all about.

Though the "Five Nights At Freddy's" game franchise created by Scott Cawthon features nine video games and assorted spinoffs and the complex lore to match, the new movie introduces the universe with a seemingly simple premise. What if a night-time security guard (Josh Hutcherson) at a Chuck E. Cheese-type pizza joint ends up discovering that the robot animals meant to entertain kids during the daytime actually come alive at night? Add...
