comedians, Miss Lauren Black, Defies the Odds and Embraces her Authentic Journey
Lauren Black grew up in the small town of Cotati, California. Even though her city was small, Lauren always had big dreams. According to a DNA test, her roots can be traced back to fifteen different origins, such as Scotland, France, Japan, Nigeria, and more. She was born with Tricuspid Atresia, a congenital heart defect, which luckily is not very visible, and she is in remission. Lauren was raised in poverty in low-income Section 8 housing with a single, disabled mother who did the best she could. Her father was incarcerated, and the majority of Lauren's family were all addicts. With all that said, Lauren knew exactly what she wanted to do with her life. She wanted to be something great. She wanted something more fulfilling than what she witnessed growing up. Lauren wanted something she could express herself with and use as an outlet for her past trauma. She wanted to become an Actor.
Due to the financial and physical difficulties in childhood, her dreams were not taken seriously. Besides this, she never allowed herself to take her dreams for granted. She did her best to turn her dreams into reality. As soon as she turned eighteen, her journey began. Lauren emerged as a multi talented star. It was all about her magic and persona; she proved herself a brilliant actress, comedian, and producer.
Lauren has been in over 30 films; she started as an "extra" in the hit Netflix series "13 Reasons Why" and so many more to learn her craft. She became a fly on the wall, soaking up all the elements of acting and production. She then landed her first speaking role playing "Mia," the giddy girlfriend, in "About Us" ', a series of short educational videos demonstrating principles of healthy communication for teens directed by "Josue Camberos." Soon after, she landed her first lead role in an independent horror movie, "Live Among Us," about a woman stuck alone in a cabin. At the same time, being stalked and terrorized, directed by "Vince Lopez" and soon after landed the role of "Kim," a mean spirited Sex Worker in "Bay Area Traffik" directed by "Roland Dario," She excelled in "Let Us Play" as "Elizabeth," a rape victim, the mistreated girlfriend in "High Stakes," a thug chick named "Cherise" in "Blood, Skulls, and Chrome," "The Astrid Experience" playing a rundown hooker produced by "Cal Barnes" and an award-winning short film "Wooden Heart" as "Sally" a young woman with a traumatic past who is stuck living a life of prostitution and desperately wanting a way out, then unknowingly meets with a client who happens to be her long lost true love, directed by "Utkarsh Goel". As you can see, being a broken woman is her specialty. Lauren is known to go all in and dig deep into sometimes unsafe places in her imagination in order to speak TRUTH.
She also had her fair share of "Not so broken" roles, such as the "Funny Witch" and "Bougie Rich Girl" on the hit YouTube channel "Illumeably," along with the leading role of "Jordan the Stud," A supportive friend in "Irish Coffee," "Molly" the artsy girl in "The Black Market" produced by Alexander Roman, and "Ryan" the smart ass in "Free Milk" produced by Jacalyn Evon, "Manar Yousef," a Muslim inspiring rapper in the movie "Her Reality Rap" directed by "Mo Alagi," "Monica" the pregnant and loving girlfriend in the movie "Walk A Mile In My Shoes" directed by "C.B Smith-Dahl", She plays "Shay" a more reserved, out of shape, comedic young woman always putting up with her wild granny in the hit YouTube channel "Adventures In Feeling Young" created by "Pamela Rand" "Co-produced" by "Lauren Black" and much more.
Lauren also excels in live Theater, performing in emotionally compelling and heartfelt plays such as, "Roe" as "Roxy," the broken and pregnant teenager who can't get an abortion, "Kids From The Lake" as "Ashley," a woman returning to her hometown she was abused in hopes to conquer her fears and reconnect with her old childhood flame. She wrote, produced, and directed "Fall Deeply In Love With You," a short play for Black History Month involving a woman hating her Afro but then realizes her beauty, snatches that wig off, throws out that flat iron, and embraces her god gifted natural black hair honey.
She has completed the full two-year intensive professional Meisner Technique program at "Empower House Acting Studios," taught by "Melissa." Lauren has also sharpened her skills by working with other acting teachers such as "Jason Stuart," "Deryn Warren," "James Ciccone," "Cody Dorkin," and more.
Lauren also excels in stand-up. Her confidence is untouchable. She received tons of support from the audience after performing her first set at "The Monkey House," followed by performing at "Alameda Comedy Club," "The Milk Bar," "Barrel Proof Lounge," "4 Bells," and more. She has high energy, organic original material, and a captivating stage presence that viewers can't get enough of! Lauren has won many comedy battles and shows. She continues to make the world brighter by turning her trauma into positives.
Lauren knows all too well that her career will not knock on her door. She created her own production company, "LB Productions," and began writing, producing, directing, and starring in her short films. Her most recent film, "Horrific High," follows a drug addict couple "Mundaye" follows a young woman trying to get justice from a bad cop, and "Escaping The Game" follows a sex worker and her gorilla pimp all available on Amazon Fire TV, Scenes Plus Prime Time channels on Roku, YouTube, and more. Lauren's all about keeping it real, so her screenplays focus on realistic and dark events. Her comedy "What In The Balls," following a sex addicts anonymous class, won an award at the "Clout" Film Festival.
Lastly, when she is not on stage, on set, or writing her next film, Lauren enjoys spending time with her pets, exploring nature, working out, and making a new friend everywhere she goes. She loves to be of service to others and helps fellow artists and her community. You can always catch Lauren volunteering on a film project, fostering with animal shelters, and supporting the AA program. She may have a "Defected Heart," but she surely has one of the biggest hearts a soul could ever have.
