Diane Keaton's 22% Rotten Tomatoes Flop Is Cashing In on a New Streamer Next Month
Image
Being a Hollywood icon certainly doesn't make you immune from a critical and box office flop. In 2024 alone, the likes of Joaquin Phoenix and Cate Blanchett were major parts of two of the year's biggest failures in Joker: Folie á Deux and Borderlands, proving that even the finest of performers is always teetering on the edge of a comically poor choice. Back in 2008, one such icon made a movie she'd possibly rather forget, with Diane Keaton starring in Callie Khouri's crime comedy, Mad Money, based on a screenplay by Glenn Gers and loosely inspired by the 2001 British drama Hot Money.

Zorro Reboot Details Revealed, Is It Setting Up a Gender Twist?
Guy Williams in Zorro (1957)
While there hasn't been much movement on Jonas Cuaron's Zorro reboot, currently titled simply Z, it was reported last month that Kiersey Clemons (Dope) has come aboard for an unspecified role. She will star alongside Gael Garcia Bernal, who has been attached to play the title character since May 2016, with last month's report claiming that production will begin in June, with Pantelion selling international rights at the European Film Market. Today a new report has surfaced which offers the first details about Kiersey Clemons' character.

With Gael Garc&#237a Bernal attached to star, presumably as the title character, this report claims that Clemons' character will be the female lead, a teenager of Haitian descent, who reportedly only appears in just a few less scenes than Bernal. The most interesting part of this character is that she named herself "Zee," in honor of the iconic hero Zorro she grew up idolizing.

Inner Demons Review
Do I believe there are demons and devils living among us in parallel realms, just waiting to be summoned by a wayward soul whose heart has been consumed by darkness? I remain a cautious skeptic, because I’ve seen too many horror movies to know the (implicated) risks that such investigations carry, but I do believe there are “demons” swimming inside every one of us. Addiction, rage, jealousy – it’s our inner demons that loom like threatening storm clouds, something writer Glenn Gers and director Seth Grossman acknowledge by slamming emotion and the occult together in a thunderous boom. Their film, Inner Demons, captures one unlucky addict’s battle with narcotics and the occult during an Intervention-esque reality program, making way for a found-footage watch that’s deeply rooted in a hazy reality.

The film follows Carson Morris (Lara Vosburgh) and her struggle to kick a nasty drug habit,...

Inner Demons – The Review
Directed by Seth Grossman, written by Glenn Gers. With Lara Vosburgh, Morgan McClellan, Colleen McGrann

Lara Vosburgh, remember that name. If there is any justice in the world of media production, film, television, theater, what have you, Lara Vosburgh should have a bright and interesting career ahead of her. Inner Demons works overtime thanks to her talent which is nothing short of astonishing.

Inner Demons is presented as a faux documentary, in fact it is presented as a video work in progress, all raw footage shot with hand held cameras and caught on security video systems. Much like Blair Witch Project and the many shot on video films that came in its wake, Inner Demons uses the grounded in reality of shot on video to present an outrageous situation with a believability that is at times, yes, horrifying, and scary.

Carson Morris is a young girl with problems. A video...

Philadelphia's The Awesome Festival becomes Bruce Campbell Horror Film Festival
Bridget Hoffman in The Evil Dead (1981)
Philadelphia's Awesome Fest sounds… well… awesome. To be clear, though, it appears this is an evolution of the already-existent event, which is now being called The Bruce Campbell Horror Film Festival. As you would expect with a name like that, Bruce Campbell will indeed be there as part of the four-day event in Rosemont, Il, where they'll also be screening a slate of horror titles curated by Scott Weinberg, horror maven and the resident critic at the just-killed FEARnet. They'll also have panels, and they've got some great ones planned. Overall, it looks like a really cool chance to see a fistful of the best of what indie horror has going on right now with bonuses that simply make the weekend better. From August 21 to August 24, you'll be able to check out some great films. How? Well, here's how they put it: Tickets for All screenings are free to attend...

Striking Concept Trailer for Zorro Reborn Sci-Fi Film
A couple of years ago there was a new film version of Zorro announced called Zorro Reborn. It was described as "a futuristic reboot of the Zorro mythology." The film was in development at 20th Century Fox with short film director Ricardo de Montreuil attached. It may be dead at the moment, but a concept trailer for the film was shot, and it looks like it would have been a very different, very fun take on the legendary character. He's like a ninja!

There is a script for the movie that has gone through the hands of several screenwriters, such as Glenn Gers, Stevie Long, Brian McGreevy, Lee Shipman, and Justin Marks. There's been no movement on the film in awhile, but you never know, maybe one day it will get the greenlight. If it does, does it look like something you would enjoy watching? ...

Claire Danes in Homeland (2011)
Want 'Homeland' answers? There's an audio book for that
Claire Danes in Homeland (2011)
[Spoiler alert: Stop now if you haven't seen Sunday's Homeland.]

The most recent episode of Showtime’s Emmy-winning drama has hungry Homeland fans jonesing for answers: How did a fugitive Nicholas Brody end up in Caracas, Venezuela? Who shot him, and why? Also, what’s with the shaved head?

The good news: Homeland’s writers can, in fact, explain themselves. The bad news: You’ll have to download a 29-minute interstitial audio book called Homeland: Phantom Pain to hear them do so. (The good news, again: The book is free! And it’s narrated by Damian Lewis!)

Why go this route to reveal what happened to Brody in between...

Has Fox found its director for Zorro Reborn?
Fox's post apocalyptic take on the Zorro legend, Zorro Reborn, might just have found its director...

We recently reported that Gael Garcia Bernal had been cast as the lead in Zorro Reborn, a post apocalyptic take on the legend of the character. The film is based on a script that was originally written by Lee Shipman and Brian McGreevy (Harker) and later rewritten by Glenn Gers (Fracture).

In addition to the post apocalyptic setting, Zorro Reborn will distance itself further from the traditions of the legend by not setting the action in either California or Mexico.

When we brought you the news of Bernal’s casting, Fox was still without a director. But now? It appears it has a favourite in Peruvian director Ricardo de Montreuil, whose short film The Raven has impressed many an exec of late. The short can be found on YouTube if you want to see what caught Fox’s eye.

Peruvian Helmer Ricardo de Montreuil Early Contender To Direct 'Zorro Reborn' Starring Gael Garcia Bernal
You may know Ricardo De Montreuil best as the director of “The Raven,” not the James McTeigue-helmed Edgar Allen Poe actioner starring John Cusack, but rather the short film about a man named Chris Black who deals with the perils of having mysterious powers against the backdrop of a futuristic Los Angeles (watch it below). Well it looks as if Montreuil, who popped up on many in Hollywood’s radar with that short, could be taking a trip to the future once again.

We were shocked back in February when it was reported that free spirited actor Gael Garcia Bernal, who’s starred in some of the most memorable independent features of the past decade or so from Alfonso Cuaron’s “Y Tu Mama Tambien” to Pedro Almodovar’s “Bad Education,” would be taking the role of the legendary Zorro. Unlike Antonio Banderas in “The Mask of Zorro,” Bernal...

Zorro Reborn Close to Landing a Director
The director of the popular short film The Raven, Ricardo de Montreuil, has come out on top as 20th Century Fox's choice to direct Zorro Reborn.

The film is described as "a futuristic reboot of the Zorro mythology that will not be set in California or Mexico, despite the story's Western themes." Gael Garcia Bernal (Y Tu Mama Tambien, The Science of Sleep, Blindness) will be taking on the role of the legendary Spanish swordsman as a masked vigilante hell-bent on revenge against an evil tyrant and his gang of mercenaries.

Zorro Reborn was scripted by Glenn Gers, along with Harker scribes Lee Shipman and Brian McGreevy. According to Variety as of right now De Montreuil will direct the screen test for Bernal, but he's not officially signed on to direct the movie... yet. I imagine they're waiting to see how he does with the screen test.

Back in 2010 Universal...

‘Zorro Reborn’ Eyes Its Director
With Gael García Bernal pegged to lead Fox’s Zorro reboot, Zorro Reborn, the search for a director is starting to zero in on Ricardo de Montreuil. Though probably not a name you have any reaction to at first glance, he was, at one point, almost in the Hollywood game; Universal and Mark Wahlberg took a liking to his six-minute short, The Raven, back in December of 2010. And then that was kind of it.

So while nothing’s been said on that front in the 15 months since things were developing, Variety tells us that Montreuil is now one of the top contenders for Zorro. (I’m guessing The Raven and prior interest in it played a big part in this coming together, for what it may be worth.) Fox’s current plan calls for the Peruvian to direct Bernal in a screen test — one that I can’t imagine has...

Gael Garcia Bernal cast as the lead in Zorro Reborn
Sony’s post apocalyptic take on the Zorro legend has found its lead in Gael Garcia Bernal.

Mexican handsome man Gael Garcia Bernal looks set to swish his sword on screens (not in a Y Tu Mamá También way), as he’s signed on to play Zorro in a new take of the character. This time, said character will be appearing in a post apocalyptic version of the story, titled Zorro Reborn.

Full details of the story are unclear at this stage, other than we can expect Bernal’s Zorro is on a revenge mission. The script was originally written by Lee Shipman and Brian McGreevy (Harker) and Glenn Gers (Fracture) has subsequently been called in to provide a re-write. The film is currently without a director but with Bernal now attached we should expect the job to be filled shortly, as 20th Century Fox seems keen on the project.

Gael Garcia Bernal to Star in Zorro Reborn
We're jumping on board the remake train again as it's been announced that the Zorro films will receive an update, although this one comes with a twist. While the Zorro of old was always based in a historical setting, the good people at Fox have decided to send the masked hero into a post-apocalyptic future for a film entitled Zorro Reborn. Not only will the setting undergo a massive change, but the character himself will also be portrayed differently than before, with more motivation for revenge than justice. The man behind the mask this time out will be Gael Garcia Bernal (Amores Perros, The Motorcycle Diaries), a name that film enthusiasts will know fairly well, but one that mainstream audiences probably don't recognize. Perhaps this project will be the one to introduce him to a wider range of viewers. Zorro Reborn is not to be confused with another Zorro film...

Gael Garcia Bernal is Zorro in Zorro Reborn Reboot
About a year ago, we learned that 20th Century Fox was planning to reboot the "Zorro" franchise with a film called "Zorro Reborn." Now comes word that the studio has hired Mexican actor Gael Garcia Bernal (Babel) to star as the title character. The new movie will take Zorro out of his California or Mexico setting, and place him into a desolate and post-apocalyptic future. He will be less a caped crusader for justice than a one-man vigilante force bent on revenge, in a western story that's similar in tone to "No Country for Old Men." Glenn Gers (Fracture) wrote the script for "Zorro Reborn," which is now seeing a director. Rpin Suwannath, a pre-visualization specialist who worked on a number of the "X-Men," "Matrix" and "Chronicles of Narnia" movies, was set to helm, but has since dropped out.

Casting notes: Gael Garcia Bernal to star in Zorro Reborn, Smallville's Kristin Kreuk in Beauty and the Beast
Mexican actor Gael Garcia Bernal is to star in 20th Century Fox's reboot Zorro Reborn, set this time in a post-apocalyptic wasteland.

As we previously reported, the project will see Zorro as a one-man vigilante force bent on revenge - rather than a masked crusader fighting for justice - in a tale that will have echoes of Sergio Leone and No Country for Old Men.

Bernal appears with Will Ferrell in the upcoming Spanish comedy Casa de mi Padre and with Kate Hudson in A Little Bit of Heaven.

Glenn Gers wrote the script with Lee Shipman and Brian McGreevy. Variety's report says no director has yet been hired, despite earlier suggestions that concept artist Rpin Suwannath was to make his debut in the hotseat.

Sony, which released two Zorro films starring Antonio Banderas, is developing its own origin story about the swashbuckling hero based on Isabel Allende's 2005 novel Zorro.

Gael Garcia Bernal is Zorro Reborn in Post-Apocalyptic Future
The sword-swinging hero known as Zorro is getting the reboot treatment, with Gael Garcai Bernal playing the classic character, but Zorro Reborn will feature a masked vigilante that bears little resemblance to the hero you might remember.

When you think of Zorro, you probably picture the noble hero on horseback, riding through the landscape of early Mexico or California as he right wrongs and protects the innocent. However, you can wipe that image from your mind because 20th Century Fox is bringing him out of the past and dumping him into the future, and an attitude adjustment is also lined up. This time around, Zorro will be depicted as a “masked vigilante bent on revenge.”

Riding out of the post-apocalyptic sunset as the title character will be Gael Garcia Bernal, who will also appear with Will Ferrell in the Spanish-language comedy, Casa de mi Padre. I haven’t seen any...

Historical Zorro has been a popular hero of adventure tales for generations now with Antonio Banderas being the latest to play the character on the big screen. Fox's Zorro Reborn Eyes Gael Garcia Bernal
Gael Garc&#237a Bernal is in talks to play the Spanish swordsman, Zorro, in Fox's Zorro Reborn.

The reboot would take Zorro into a post-apocalyptic era. The story will not be set in California or Mexico, but a post-apocalyptic wasteland. The actor would play the masked vigilante bent on revenge.

The film was written by Glenn Gers with help from Lee Shipman and Brian McGreevy.

Sony is also developing a origin story about the Mexican American hero based on Isabel Allende's 2005 novel simply called Zorro. Sony already has two Zorro movies starring Antonio Banderas.

The film is still in early development and is currently looking for a director for the project.

Zorro Reborn comes to theaters in 2013.

Gael Garcia Bernal Is Fox’s ‘Zorro’
Remember Fox’s futuristic reboot of Zorro? Well, in that case: Fox is doing a futuristic reboot of Zorro, entitled Zorro Reborn, which takes the classic character and places him in a post-apocalyptic setting, for reasons that aren’t entirely clear. Harker writers Lee Shipman and Brian McGreevy fashioned the script with Glenn Gers (Fracture), one that casts Zorro as “less a caped crusader for justice than a one-man vigilante force bent on revenge.” We learned this ten months ago; we now have a major development.

Variety now tells us that Amores Perros and Y Tu Mamá También star Gael García Bernal will be taking up the sword, cape and mask for Fox as the studio seeks a director. (Back in April, visual effects artist Rpin Suwannath was wanted for the job. That must have not panned out.) But, although not having someone behind the camera is obviously an issue...

Gael García Bernal Lands Lead in the New Futuristic 'Zorro Reborn'
Zorro in the Future? Apparently so. Word from Variety is that talented Mexican actor Gael García Bernal, who you've seen in Y Tu Mamá También, The Motorcycle Diaries, Science of Sleep, Babel, Blindness, Letters to Juliet and Casa de mi Padre coming up, has landed the lead as the masked vigilante in Zorro Reborn, now in development at 20th Century Fox. The project is apparently new futuristic version of Zorro (oh boy) that, they say, "will not be set in California or Mexico, despite the story's Western themes." So, on another planet then, or a spaceship? No director is set yet, but they've at least attached Bernal to star so far. This new Zorro Reborn, which we've reported on before, comes from a script written by Glenn Gers with Lee Shipman and Brian McGreevy, of Harker. The Zorro character has been seen on the screen many times before since being...

Gael Garcia Bernal to Play Zorro in Futuristic 'Zorro Reborn' Reboot
Back in April of last year the Los Angeles Times report 20th Century Fox was looking to bring back Zorro after Antonio Banderas played the character in two films for Columbia Pictures. The only thing was, this wasn't the Zorro we're used to. The film is titled Zorro Reborn and apparently instead of a period piece the film will remain a western, but will be set in a desolate and post-apocalyptic future with echoes of both Sergio Leone and No Country for Old Men. At the time that news surfaced the film was expected to be directed by pre-vis specialist Rpin Suwannath (X-Men, The Matrix) with a script from Lee Shipman and Brian McGreevy. Now, Suwannath is no longer attached, Glenn Gers (Fracture) did a rewrite of the script and Variety reports Gael Garcia Bernal will suit up in the lead role. Fox did not confirm the news and has...

Gael Garcia Bernal To Star In Zorro Reborn
We've been hearing about the new Zorro adventure for a couple of months now. In April of last year it was reported that 20th Century Fox was developing a project called Zorro Reborn, which would not only reboot the franchise that starred Antonio Banderas, but would completely change the setting, moving the masked vigilante to a post-apocalyptic future. The big question, though, was who would they get to play the titular character? Say what you will about the quality of Martin Campbell's films (particularly the second one), but Banderas was perfect for the part. Fortunately, there is another famous hispanic actor that could fit the bill quite nicely and now the studio has brought him on board. Variety has it that Gael Garcia Bernal is now attached to star in Zorro Reborn. The project still doesn't have a director, but it does have a script written by Glenn Gers...

Gael García Bernal: Zorro Reboot
Gael García Bernal is keeping himself busy. According to Variety, García Bernal is attached to star in the futuristic Zorro reboot Zorro Reborn for 20th Century Fox. He's also to be featured opposite Will Ferrell and Diego Luna in Matt Piedmont's comedy Casa de mi Padre, and in Nicole Kassell's A Little Bit of Heaven, with Kate Hudson and Peter Dinklage. And that's not all: García Bernal is reportedly planning on making a documentary about immigration, and is attached to star as Panamanian boxer Roberto Duran in Jonathan Jakubowicz's Hands of Stone, opposite Al Pacino and Ryan Kwanten. Now, Variety explains that Zorro Reborn will be quite different from the Zorro of Tyrone Power, Frank Langella, Antonio Banderas, or Guy Williams. (Or George Hamilton, for that matter.) For starters, Zorro Reborn will not be set in Old California, then a part of Mexico. Nor will Zorro be a light-hearted sword fighter.

Gael Garcia Bernal Is Your New Zorro
Z
Last April, rumours began to spread that 20th Century Fox had its eye on an ambitious new take on the Zorro legend, with post-apocalyptic version Zorro Reborn bubbling away in development. Now it’s closer to reality, with Gael Garcia Bernal anointed to take over the trademark sword-swishing duties.Since it’s set in The World Of Tomorrow, it’ll be a change from the usual Californian / Mexican setting, though the ruined world concept does suggest that a lot of desert will still be involved. Still, Bernal’s Zorro will still be a masked vigilante out for revenge.Against whom? That is still shrouded – or perhaps that should be cloaked, given the character – in mystery. What we do know is that Glenn Gers has taken a pass at the script originally written by Harker scribes Lee Shipman and Brian McGreevy. But though pre-vis specialist and spellcheck nemesis Rpin Suwannath was...

Gael Garcia Bernal Set as Lead in Futuristic Reboot Zorro Reborn
20th Century Fox has finally settled on its lead in their upcoming Zorro reboot Zorro Reborn. Variety reports that Gael Garcia Bernal (The Motorcycle Diaries) is attached to play the Spanish swordsman. The film is a fresh take on material that was most recently mined in Martin Campbell’s The Mask of Zorro and The Legend of Zorro. As we previously reported, Zorro Reborn will not take place in the classic Western setting of Mexico or California, but will instead be set in a post-apocalyptic wasteland. Moreover, Zorro will be less of a hero this time around, as the story paints the character as “a masked vigilante bent on revenge.” Bernal is an excellent actor and, I think, a nice choice to play Zorro. I’m not necessarily thrilled with the “futuristic” take on the story as I think Bernal would be swell in a classic swashbuckling flick, but Fox apparently has other plans.

Gael Garcia Bernal Is Zorro Reborn
Now this sounds interesting. Fox will produce a version of the Zorro story which will take place in the future, and have signed the great Mexican thesp Gael Garcia Bernal (Babel, The Motorcycle Diaries, The Science Of Sleep) to play the role. According to Variety.. Pic is a futuristic reboot of the classic Zorro mythology that will not be set in California or Mexico, despite the story's Western themes. Garcia Bernal will play the character as a masked vigilante bent on revenge. We last saw the character played by Antonio Banderas in Green Lantern director Martin Campbell's The Legend Of Zorro back in 2005. Sony, who produced both Banderas Zorro movies, are also working on another more conventional origin story based on the first ever Zorro novel. The script for Fox's movie, which has still to sign a director, was written by Glenn Gers, Lee Shipman and Brian McGreevy.

Gael Garcia Bernal Will Be Zorro Reborn
Douglas Fairbanks, Guy Williams, Antonio Banderas and others have played the iconic swashbuckling character Zorro, but now a new name can be added to that list as Variety is saying that Mexican actor Gael Garcia Bernal ( Y Tu Mama Tambien ) will be donning the mask of Zorro for a new futuristic reboot from 20th Century Fox. A few months back, Sony hired writers to reboot their Zorro franchise, but 20th Century Fox has decided to move ahead with their own Zorro project tentatively called Zorro Reborn , which won't be set either in California or Mexico but will have Bernal's Zorro as a masked vigilante looking for revenge. Written by Glenn Gers, Lee Shipman and Brian McGreevy, the project is still looking for a director. (Photo credit: WENN.com)...

Focus Taps Ole Bornedal for Dean Koontz Adaptation
I have never read a Dean Koontz novel, but I know he is wildly popular and it appear Focus Features is ready to take advantage of that first look deal they scored with Random House as they have set Danish helmer Ole Bornedal to rewrite and direct The Husband based on the 2006 Koontz novel. The story centers on a man whose marriage is tested over the course of 60 harrowing hours after he receives a devastating call from a stranger. Screen Daily reports the most recent draft of the script was penned by Glenn Gers who co-wrote the 2007 Anthony Hopkins and Ryan Gosling thriller Fracture. I know nothing of Bornedal's work, but Focus CEO James Schamus tells Screen Daily, "Ole's work, as a writer-director who deftly crafts human-scaled stories of suspense and drama, makes him the ideal film-maker to bring Dean's gripping bestseller to the screen." I guess I'll have to take him at his word.

Koontz' The Husband Headed To Screens
It's a race against time, one man against the system: Danish director Ole Bornedal has signed on to direct an adaptation of Dean Koontz' book The Husband, a race-against-time thriller. The novel sees an ordinary guy, a landscape gardener, receive a call from someone who says he has kidnapped our hero's wife and wants $2 million to give her back. When our gardener complains, not unreasonably, that he's a frickin' gardener and doesn't have that kind of money*, the kidnapper simply replies that, "You'll find a way". Ooooh, high concept.Bornedal's also set to rewrite the script, last drafted by Fracture and Mad Money's Glenn Gers, so expect to see this sometime next year. Ish. Meanwhile, two of Bornedal's Danish films - The Substitute and Just Another Love Story - have been picked up to be remade by Sam Raimi's Ghost House Pictures.*Maybe they confused him with a plumber?...

Ole Bornedal to Helm Koontz's The Husband
Well, what do you know? As soon as we finish up one story about a book-to-film adaptation, along comes another. This one involves long-time genre fave Dean Kootz and his 2006 novel The Husband.

Focus Features has hired Danish director Ole Bornedal (The Substitute, review here) to direct and write a new draft of the script, originally penned by Glenn Gers. Per Variety, Focus will keep worldwide distribution and sales rights on the project, which was acquired from Random House as part of Focus’ multi-year partnership with the publisher’s film division to develop, co-finance. and co-produce feature films.

The plot of The Husband sounds pretty tasty: One morning Southern California gardener Mitchell Rafferty gets a call on his cellphone from a stranger saying that Mitch's beloved wife, Holly, has been kidnapped and that he has less than three days to come up with $2 million in cash. Of course, he's warned not to involve the police.

Opening This Week: British gangsters, mock doormen, Lou Reed
By Neil Pedley

This week sees the opening of "The Dark Knight." Advance marketing and coverage might have you believe that that, apparently, is all, but there are other films coming out this week well worth your time. (Besides, "The Dark Knight" is totally going to be sold out.)

"A Very British Gangster"

With Britain in the midst of a youth crime epidemic, Irish investigative reporter Donald McIntyre takes an unflinching look at Dominic Noonan, a granddad of the English gangland who's spent over half his life behind bars. Having legally changed his name to Lattlay Fottfoy (an acronym of the Noonan motto . "Look After Those That Look After You; Fuck Off Those That Fuck Off You"), the openly gay head of Manchester's most notorious crime family shows off his gentler side as a man who uses his reputation to position himself as a "problem solver" more concerned with the...
