Star Wars icon returns in first look at new Disney Plus show
Image
Star Wars and Disney Plus have gone hand-in-hand for over half a decade. Just as Marvel Studios has, the Lucasfilm franchise has successfully brought one of the most successful silver screen sagas to the small screen to tell a host of new stories via the now-iconic streaming service. It hasn't been completely smooth-sailing, but for the most part, it has marked a gripping new chapter in the ancient Star Wars lore, providing us with plenty of thrilling new stories in that galaxy so far, far away.

We've even seen some Star Wars legends headline their own Disney Plus shows along the way. Obi-Wan Kenobi returned for his own series, with Ewan McGregor reprising the role for the first time in nearly 20 years. Meanwhile, names in the franchise that were so well-known to the most devoted of fans now got to be showcased to wider audiences in The Book of Boba Fett,...

The Mandalorian 5 years later: 5 burning questions before the movie
Image
The Mandalorian is about to move from Disney+ to the big screen next year with the premiere of The Mandalorian and Grogu. Even then, its impact on television is enduring, and the show has received numerous awards and cultivated a loyal fan base.

Although The Mandalorian has been part of Star Wars canon since 2019, certain questions about the series remain unanswered, and we hope Jon Favreau will answer them in the movie.

Here are 5 questions we have about The Mandalorian 5 years after its premiere.

The Child had no reason to trust Din Djarin when they met each other at the end of The Mandalorian Chapter 1. It seemed obvious Din was there to capture Grogu and take him back to Nevarro. For many fans, the only reasonable...

George Lucas’ Sequel Idea Lives Through Next Star Wars Project That Can Erase The Acolyte
Image
Before he sold the Star Wars franchise to Disney, George Lucas had grand plans for the sequel trilogy. These initial plans included a resurrected Darth Maul serving as the primary villain alongside a female Sith apprentice. While Lucas’ idea was scrapped, it will live on through an animated series about Maul.

Maul – Shadow Lord is one of the most ambitious upcoming Star Wars projects. The animated series recently dropped a first look during the San Diego Comic-Con, raising expectations for the project. Here is why Maul – Shadow Lord could be game-changing and even erase The Acolyte‘s failure.

How Maul – Shadow Lord Continues George Lucas’ Star Wars Sequel Idea

Filmmaker George Lucas planned to make a Star Wars sequel trilogy long before selling the franchise’s rights to Disney alongside his company for $4 billion in 2012. In Paul Duncan’s book The Star Wars Archives: 1999-2005, Lucas shared early ideas for his planned sequel trilogy.

First Look At Star Wars: Maul - Shadow Lord's Lightsaber Wielding Former Sith Revealed At Comic-Con
Image
Obi-Wan Kenobi sliced Darth Maul in half and sent him tumbling to his death in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. However, at the behest of George Lucas, The Clone Wars animated series later revealed that Senator Papatine's Sith apprentice had survived.

Now rocking a pair of badass cybernetic legs, his story continued there before the villain eventually returned in Star Wars Rebels (which is where his tale also concluded after one final clash with Obi-Wan on Tatooine).

Solo: A Star Wars Story brought Maul back in live-action, and had that movie received a sequel, chances are we'd have seen more of what he got up to as the leader of Crimson Dawn. Unfortunately, the movie was a box office flop, and fans have been waiting to see Maul return ever since.

Lucasfilm is among the studios skipping this year's San Diego Comic-Con, meaning we can forget about getting any new trailers or casting information.

This included a first real look at Darth Maul in the upcoming animated series Maul: Shadow Lord, released via StarWars.com.

Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord First Image Takes The Former Sith Underground
Image
If you’ve only seen the Star Wars films, Darth Maul was a seriously cool-looking villain from The Phantom Menace who promptly got sliced in two by Obi-Wan Kenobi – never to be seen again until he (somehow) returned in the final moments of Solo: A Star Wars Story. But those who’ve seen The Clone Wars and Rebels will know there’s much, much more to Maul’s story. He survived being bisected, got spider-robot legs, then got regular-robot legs, sought some Sith artefacts, tried to corrupt the young Ezra Bridger, and eventually had a rematch with Kenobi on Tatooine. And amid all that? He became a crime boss too.

That part of Maul’s long and winding road will be the focus of his upcoming headline animated series, Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord – exploring how the former Sith apprentice became the head of the Crimson Dawn crime syndicate in the galaxy’s expansive underworld.

Darth Maul's New Look Revealed: First Glimpse at Maul: Shadow Lord TV Show
Image
Star Wars has unveiled a first look at Darth Maul from the upcoming animated TV show Maul: Shadow Lord. Even George Lucas knew he made a mistake killing Darth Maul, and the Sith Apprentice was resurrected in Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Maul's story is set to continue in an animated spinoff next year, Maul: Shadow Lord.

Lucasfilm unveiled a new look at Maul: Shadow Lord at San Diego Comic-Con:

Darth Sidious' former apprentice is shown with his signature double-bladed lightsaber, and it's interesting to note that his new outfit eschews the traditional hooded look of the Sith. The background is fascinating, with the blood-red colors perhaps signifying a connection to Crimson Dawn, a crime cartel he established during this period.

Image
Next month's 'Destination D23: A Journey Around the Worlds of Disney' takes place from August 29-31 in Orlando, Florida. According to D23.com, this event is slated as "The Biggest Disney Fan Event of the year", meaning there's something for everyone.

Bits of information about all these projects can be expected, but it's unlikely there will be any footage from most of them. With that said, Lucasfilm won't leave Star Wars fans entirely disappointed, so we can expect to see new content.

Image
For the fantasy TV fan, Prime Video is essentially a one-stop shop.

The streamer boasts multi-season adaptations for two of the most popular fantasy book series on the market, animated features of a popular D&d campaign and a comic book from the creator of “The Walking Dead.” Whatever flavor of fantasy you’re looking for is likely on Prime Video.

From “Lord of the Rings” to “Invincible,” these are the fantasy shows on Prime Video that you need on your radar.

“The Wheel of Time” is a rare show that improved every season across it’s three-season run on Prime Video. What is Star Wars: Maul - Shadow Lord actually about?
Image
Everyone’s favorite cyborg Sith apprentice is getting his very own animated show. Star Wars: Maul - Shadow Lord is slated for a 2026 release. Details are currently few and far between, but we know that the series will take place in the Imperial era and that Maul may take on an apprentice of his own.

For now, we are left only to speculate on what the plot details are, but we are able to piece together quite a bit from what little we know, much in thanks to Darth Maul’s longtime voice actor Sam Witwer.

Witwer, who has played various Star Wars roles, first came to be the voice of Maul in season four of The Clone Wars and has portrayed the character ever since. His return in the animated show gave us a deeply expanded view of the character who previously had very little depth. Indeed, in his...

“A few idiots will throw a rock”: Star Wars Actor’s Heartfelt Statetment on LA Riots and Criticism for Donald Trump
Image
The Star Wars franchise has been political in its design from the get-go. The original trilogy is largely seen as an analogy for the world’s rebellion against the Nazis and Adolf Hitler during World War II and later films and series built on this premise of a rebellion’s fight against a fascist empire.

Political tensions are at a high, especially in Los Angeles, due to the protests against Ice and its process of rounding up illegal immigrants. President Donald Trump has also reportedly deployed the National Guard, and news about excessive violence in the city has been coming out.

Star Wars actor Sam Witwer issued a statement, pledging his support for the protesters and urging the public to be vigilant about narrative-spinning and media trials. He also criticized Donald Trump for his reaction to the issue of illegal immigrants.

The Darth Maul TV Series Could Answer A Key Star Wars Question That Has Lingered For A Long Time
Image
Darth Maul (or just Maul for anything that happened after the events of "The Phantom Menace") is one of the most interesting characters in the "Star Wars" universe. Originally a one-and-done villain who was underused in Episode I, George Lucas eventually brought him back in "The Clone Wars" animated series, voiced by Sam Witwer. That completely changed the character's legacy, and now, he's getting his very own series in the form of "Maul - Shadow Lord," which was announced during this year's Star Wars Celebration. While much remains mysterious about the show, Witwer strongly hinted at a key question the show will address.

Speaking with IGN at Star Wars Celebration, Witwer was discussing the show, which is due to arrive on Disney+ next year. A teaser for "Maul - Shadow Lord" suggested that the show will introduce the villain Talon, but for the most part, plot details are being kept under wraps.

'We’re Not Doing That': Maul Actor Says His New Star Wars Show Avoids a Common Villain Trope
Image
Heroes in Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord are few and far between.

Appearing on Katee Sackhoff's podcast, longtime Maul voice actor Sam Witwer addressed what this new chapter in the ex-Sith's life will entail and the challenges confronting Maul as he grows his criminal empire amidst the Galactic Empire's rise. He described the show as battle of "bad guys vs. worse guys, and our bad guys are still bad guys," insisting that Maul's dark edges won't be dulled regardless of his protagonist status.

"This isn’t going to be a show where you find out Maul is 'a real teddy bear, man. That guy, he's just misunderstood. You have to understand... if you have coffee with him, he's really cool.' We’re not doing that," he said, with the novel twist being how Shadow Lord questions "is he as bad as Sidious or Vader? And the answer is 'actually no.

Sam Witwer shares first details about Star Wars: Maul - Shadow Lord
Image
Dave Filoni is creating yet another prequel-era series. Set a year after the end of the Clone Wars and before the events of Star Wars Rebels, Star Wars: Maul - Shadow Lord will follow the former Sith Lord as he builds and establishes his criminal syndicate, Crimson Dawn.

Sam Witwer, who has portrayed Maul since the character's return in The Clone Wars, will reprise the role in the tentative 2026 release.

Maul met a fitting end for the second time at the hands of Obi-Wan Kenobi, his lifelong arch-nemesis, in the sands of Tatooine. But the death and complexity of the character are gifts that seemingly keep giving, and now we stand on the precipice of having an entire show on him. If you can't believe it, neither could Witwer himself.

During a recent appearance on Katee Sackhoff's (Bo-Katan Kryze) The Sackhoff Show, the 47-year-old actor revealed that the series...

A Star Wars Legend Makes A Very Sneaky Cameo In Andor Season 2
Image
"Andor" overall was quite unlike anything in the "Star Wars" universe before it. A two-season gritty, galactic political drama chronicling the rise of the Rebellion and leading directly up to the events of "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story," it's by far the most adult this franchise has ever been. It also wasn't big on cameos or things of that nature, which is the main reason why we didn't see a young Princess Leia, for example. But that doesn't mean there weren't some cameos to look out for; they were just hidden in plain sight.

One of the most impossible to spot cameos came about in "Andor" season 2, episode 4 (titled "Ever Been to Ghorman?"), which helps set the stage for the Ghorman massacre we see in episode 8 (titled "Who Are You?"). In the episode, Cassian (Diego Luna) is tasked with scouting out the people of Ghorman, who are planning to rebel against the Empire.

Star Wars: Maul - Shadow Lord Actor Sam Witwer Shares New Plot Details; "It's About Bad Guys Vs. Worse Guys"
Image
Back in April during Star Wars Celebration Japan, Lucasfilm announced that a new animated series based on the post-Clone Wars, pre-Star Wars Rebels adventures of Darth Maul was in the works for Disney+.

The synopsis for Star Wars: Maul - Shadow Lord that was released at the time reads: "After the Clone Wars, Maul plots to rebuild his criminal syndicate on a planet untouched by the Empire. In a new series set after the events of the final season of The Clone Wars, Maul rises again to lead the underworld factions."

The show is believed to be set roughly one year after the events of The Clone Wars, around 19 Bby.

Now, voice actor Sam Witwer has shared some more details, and he clarifies that Maul will not be sanitized or redeemed as some fans feared - although it sounds like the character's humanity will be explored to some extent.

Star Wars legend making huge comeback for his own Disney Plus series
Image
As the years go by, we continue to look back on some of Hollywood's biggest franchises only to see that they've gotten bigger over time. There are plenty of them too: The Marvel Cinematic Universe, the Jurassic Park movies, the countless DC films (including the Batman series alone), Terminator and so many more. And one of the most enduring of them all is Star Wars.

That franchise in particular features one of the most committed fanbases of all, and it's no surprise given how vast the world of Star Wars is and all of the legendary characters it has produced. That's even more true now that the saga's future reaches across film and television, with multiple beloved characters headlining their own projects in recent years.

As Lucasfilm brought audiences together at Star Wars Celebration Japan, a major announcement revealed that another significant figure in the lore is set to headline their own series.

Palpatine Actor Reveals Steven Spielberg's Perfect First Reaction to His Star Wars Performance
Image
None other than Steven Spielberg gave Ian McDiarmid his seal of approval for making Star Wars' Emperor feel genuinely evil.

Speaking with Variety ahead of Star Wars: Episode III — Revenge of the Sith's twentieth anniversary, McDiarmid reflected on his legacy playing Emperor Palpatine and having the opportunity to expand upon his Return of the Jedi role in the prequel trilogy. On replacing the late Clive Revill as Palpatine's voice, he said, "I thought if Clive knew what that creature had become or what he looked like, he would be doing something along the lines of what I was doing. So I continued to do my little voice like that; George didn't say stop, and neither did Richard." While recording the Adr for his performance, McDiarmid happened to meet director Steven Spielberg and future Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy -- then co-founder of Spielberg's production company Amblin Entertainment -- recalling,...

Image
Star Wars fans just got some exciting news. A new animated show is coming, and it’s all about Darth Maul. It’s called Maul: Shadow Lord, and Sam Witwer is back to voice the fan-favorite villain.

Witwer shared some details regarding the show during Star Wars Celebration in Japan and shared where the new show fits in the Star Wars timeline.

“This is a year after The Clone Wars. You have a situation where everyone got destroyed by the Clones and Maul’s organization didn’t really hold under that pressure,” Witwer said. “He still has a group with him, but it’s not like it was, and so it was devastating in that way. Everyone is very afraid. Everyone is very uncertain. But he is watching an empire that he knew was coming, but he wasn’t thinking it was going to be like this.”

The main focus of the teaser is to show Maul unleashing hell on his enemies. However, the big reveal comes when the iconic villain is revealed to be training a pink/red-skinned Twi'lek as his new apprentice.

Star Wars: Maul - Shadow Lord Animated TV Series Starring Sam Witwer Officially Set For 2026 Release
Image
Obi-Wan Kenobi sliced Darth Maul in half and sent him tumbling to his death in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. However, The Clone Wars animated series would later reveal that Papatine's Sith apprentice had survived.

Unfortunately, the movie was a box office flop.

At Star Wars Celebration in Japan earlier today, it was confirmed - via SFFGazette.com -that Maul will return in Lucasfilm's next animated series, Star Wars: Maul - Shadow Lord.
