Drummergeddon 2025: Why We’re Witnessing a Global Percussion Apocalypse
Image
Welcome to Drummergeddon 2025, when the entire music world wants to know: What the hell is going on with the drummers? There’s an epidemic of high-profile bands dumping their drummers, or getting dumped by them, and nobody has any clue why. It’s not just the Who or the Foo Fighters. It’s not just Nine Inch Nails or Pearl Jam or Primus. It’s not even just Gnr or Oasis or Iron Maiden. It’s a host of rock and metal bands from different genres, at different levels of fame,...

South Park’s Matt Stone Joins Primus on Drums to Cover King Crimson: Watch
Image
South Park co-creator Matt Stone joined Primus on drums for a cover of King Crimson’s “Thela Hun Ginjeet” during their show at the Greek Theater in Los Angeles on Wednesday, August 6th.

Playing alongside Primus’ new drummer John Hoffman, Stone channeled the song’s tense mood with a driving performance behind the kit, occasionally relishing in some fills in between Hoffman’s taut grooves. “Thela Hun Ginjeet” is a common cover that Primus bandleader Les Claypool likes to play, either with Primus or with his solo project; the 1981 King Crimson single features a primal, swampy rhythm. Watch Primus and Stone’s rendition of the song below.

In addition to his duties on South Park, Stone is a multi-instrumentalist with a particular penchant for the drums; he also has a noted interest in jam bands and progressive rock. Primus is a significant band in Stone and South Park’s lore,...

Ozzy Osbourne Was in a Wild South Park Episode, and No One Remembers
Image
Ozzy Osbourne, the “Prince of Darkness” and iconic Black Sabbath frontman, tragically passed away on July 22, 2025, at age 76. Having had a string of health issues, including his 2020 Parkinson’s diagnosis, the metal legend continued performing until just weeks before his death.

Famous for his wild antics on the stage, no cause of death has been revealed by his family yet, as CNN reports. While tributes from across the world pour in, his legacy extends well beyond the confines of heavy metal and Black Sabbath. In a cameo that not everyone remembers, Osbourne once appeared in an episode of South Park.

In South Park’s Season 2 Episode 14, titled Chef Aid, Ozzy Osbourne made an iconic cameo. Playing himself in a riotously over-the-top benefit concert scene.

A New Documentary Wonders If ‘It’s Pat’ Is Problematic — And Invites Julia Sweeney to Join the Discussion
Image
It’s been decades since Julia Sweeney was in the zeitgeist thanks to “It’s Pat,” her series of popular Saturday Night Live sketches in which she played Pat, an androgynous, awkward individual who confuses coworkers and passersby: Is Pat a man or a woman? Pat would never say, each answer only further clouding the issue.

Sweeney developed the Pat character during her time with the Groundlings, and she brought them to SNL, where she worked from 1990 to 1994. In August of 1994, a full-length It’s Pat movie hit theaters, receiving terrible reviews and tanking at the box office, effectively killing the character in the culture. Sweeney went on to do a series of superb monologues in the late 1990s and 2000s, including God Said Ha! and Letting Go of God, while Pat drifted out of the collective consciousness. But that started to change in the late 2010s once queer and trans...

Briston Maroney Announces New Album Jimmy, Releases Two New Singles: Stream
Image
Briston Maroney has returned with the announcement of a new album, Jimmy, and the release of its two latest singles, “Tomatoes” and “Bullshit.”

Due on May 2nd via Atlantic Records, Jimmy will be Maroney’s third full-length album, following 2023’s Ultrapure and his 2021 debut, Sunflower. According to its press release, the new album’s 12 tracks see him muse on the dual upbringings he received bouncing between divorced parents, one marked by the “devil-may-care spirit” of north Florida and the other by the “relatively privileged but pressured” life of a Catholic school student in Tennessee.

Get Briston Maroney Tickets Here

Ultimately, the synthesis between these two worlds is a resounding belief in “simply being yourself.” Indeed, the singles “Tomatoes” and “Bullshit” showcase the candidness and intimacy that Maroney has a knack for conveying, turning personal observations and remembrances like “listening to Ween on an airplane” into expressive, resonant compositions.

On “Tomatoes,...

A Minecraft Movie Cut A Streamer Cameo After Viral Jason Momoa Criticism
Image
Just two weeks ago, it was all doom and gloom for Warner Bros. The 102-year-old movie studio was smarting from a string of high-profile flops that included "Joker: Folie à Deux," "Mickey 17," and "The Alto Knights," and was desperate for its big spring release, "A Minecraft Movie," to reverse its box office fortunes. Though tracking for the film, based on the enormously popular sandbox video game from Mojang Studios, was trending upward heading into the April 4 weekend, the studio seemed less than confident given reports that Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav was taking meetings with potential replacements for embattled production chiefs Michael DeLuca and Pamela Abdy. "A Minecraft Movie" was, stem-to-stern, their project. If it fell short of expectations, they would've been out on their ear.

There were uncertainties as to what number "A Minecraft Movie" would have to clear to be considered a bona-fide blockbuster, but, rest assured,...

You Can Finally Buy a Copy of ‘South Park’s Live Album For Less Than $200
Image
South Park has produced a lot of music over the years, yet the show hasn’t produced many albums. There was the soundtrack to South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut, the fecal holiday record Mr. Hankey's Christmas Classics and Chef Aid: The South Park Album, which memorably featured the full-length version of Sir Elton John’s ballad about Wendy Testaburger.

Suck it, Lion King soundtrack.

For a long time that was pretty much it — until the South Park “25th Anniversary Concert” came along, that is.

The 2022 event, staged at the Red Rocks Amphitheater in Morrison, Colorado, found Trey Parker and Matt Stone performing some of the franchise’s most beloved original songs such as “The Ballad of Lemmiwinks,” a soulful rearrangement of “Uncle Fucker” and “What Would Brian Boitano Do?”

Plus, they performed some tunes from Team America: World Police, like “America, Fuck Yeah.” There was also a lineup...

The Surprising Origins of SpongeBob SquarePants' Name, Explained
Image
At this point, SpongeBob SquarePantsis a ubiquitous household name. The character’s iconic laugh has been burning its way through parents’ nerves for over two decades, and the series’ success is far from over. The iconic show has been dubbed in over 70 languages — from Arabic and Mandarin to Cantonese and Zulu. Of course, it also has an extensive multimedia and merchandising influence.

But everything starts somewhere. SpongeBob is no exception. Its May 1999 premiere was like any other. It slowly found its footing as time passed, and it had slipped into its “groove” by Season 2. However, those early years were an interesting period for the beloved sponge.

The Origins of SpongeBob SquarePants Date Back to the Mid-1990s SpongeBob is Paramount’s most profitable franchise. SpongeBob is the fifth longest-running cartoon in history. SpongeBob’s television ratings handily beat Pokémon within a month of its premiere.

Ween Announce Touring Hiatus for the “Foreseeable Future” Citing Dean Ween’s Mental Health Struggles
Image
Ween have announced they are stepping away from touring “for the foreseeable future” due to Michael “Dean Ween” Melchiondo’s continued mental health struggles. The impacted dates include the special Chocolate and Cheese anniversary show in Philadelphia that was scheduled for September 27th.

“It is with sincere regret and heavy hearts that Ween must make the decision to step away from the stage for the foreseeable future,” reads a social media statement. “Despite three great shows this summer, it’s become clear that touring and performing is too taxing on Deaner’s mental health to continue.”

Earlier this year, the group canceled the spring dates on their 40th anniversary tour and cut short their summer run. Back in March, Dean Ween shared a statement reading, “I need to step away from performing live in order to preserve my mental and spiritual well being, and instead focus on myself and loved ones.

Ween Cancel Remaining Dates on 40th Anniversary Tour
Image
After launching their 40th anniversary tour with shows in Bonner, Montana and Spokane, Washington last week, Ween are pulling the plug on their final three dates in Seattle, Portland, and Eugene.

“We regret to announce that we will have to cancel our shows this week in Seattle, Portland and Eugene,” reads a statement from the band posted to social media. “We love performing for the best fans in the world, and we are beyond disappointed we won’t be able to do these shows. All tickets will be refunded at point of purchase. Thanks as always for the love and support.”

Though the Pacific Northwest tour was intended to be brief, it was also meant to be a celebration of 40 years of Ween. It’s unknown whether they will still play their hometown show at the Mann Music Center in Philadelphia celebrating their 1994 album Chocolate and Cheese. Ween was also...

We will share more soon about plans to celebrate his life, but we are devastated by this unimaginable loss and ask for privacy and time to grieve.

Tepper was the program director for SiriusXM’s Outlaw Country channel since 2004, and also helmed the Willie Nelson-centric “Willie’s Roadhouse” and the “Road Dog Trucking” channel, devoted to that industry.

The wonderfully weird indie duo Water From Your Eyes paid tribute to one of their many wonderfully weird predecessors, Ween, with a new cover of “If You Could Save Yourself (You’d Save Us All).”

The original tune appeared on Ween’s 2003 album, Quebec, a big, winding ballad flush with orchestral strings and end-of-relationship agony. "South Park" has been on the air for over a quarter of a century, as the rambunctious, raunchy, and often reprehensible adult animated-comedy series returns to Comedy Central for its historic season 26. The Emmy and Peabody Award-winning series from Trey Parker and Matt Stone have been pushing the boundaries of good taste since 1997, and shows no signs of stopping anytime soon.

Serving as a bit of a cultural Rorschach test, "South Park" spent most of 2022 celebrating its 25th anniversary, complete with a six-episode season, two-part specials for Paramount+, and a celebration concert starring Trey Park and Matt Stone, Primus, Ween, and a special appearance by members of the band, Rush. The series continues to be one of the only remaining flagship programs at Comedy Central, which renewed the series until 2027 as part of a massive, 900 million dollar deal with MTV Entertainment Studios and ViacomCBS Inc.

Hargus “Pig” Robbins, a member of Nashville’s A-team of session players who added keyboards and piano to albums by Dolly Parton, Bob Dylan, Kenny Rogers, Miranda Lambert, Ween, and many more, died Sunday. Robbins’ playing was all about the feel. Listen to the bluesy piano he dropped into Dylan’s “Pledging My Time” in 1966, the defining but never heavy-handed intro he played on Crystal Gayle’s 1977 “Don’t It Make My Brown Eyes Blue,...
