Russ Abbot to star in new BBC One sitcom Grey Mates
Russ Abbot is to star in new BBC One sitcom Grey Mates.

Veteran stars Stephanie Beacham, Alison Steadman and June Whitfield will also appear in the six-part half-hour comedy.

Created by Citizen Khan writer Richard Pinto, Grey Mates will follow the ups and downs of three recently retired couples.

Philip Jackson, James Smith and Paula Wilcox have also been cast as pensioners "all coming at retirement from very different directions".

Announced today (December 2) by Controller of BBC One, Charlotte Moore, Grey Mates promises to "strike a chord with people of all generations".

Made by Hat Trick Productions, the sitcom will be produced by Paul Schlesinger (Twenty Twelve) and executive produced by Jimmy Mulville (Outnumbered).

Series 2 of the hit BBC1 show is back.

Produced by BBC In-House Comedy, Citizen Khan is a warm family comedy written by Adil Ray, Richard Pinto and Anil Gupta. Our director is the talented Ben Gosling Fuller (That Mitchell and Webb Look, The Bleak Old Shop of Stuff) and our producer is the award winning Catherine Gosling (Pramface, Twenty Twelve).

Mr Khan (played by Adil Ray) is a larger than life character with big dreams and strident opinions. In this episode youngest daughter Alia (played by Bhavna Limbachia) has a visitor from France.

We are looking to cast Fatima - Alia’s hijab wearing friend, realistic playing age 17-19 petite, Middle Eastern or North African appearance, flirty, French/Arabic accent.

Please note: for script reasons this role is Not open to white or Asian actresses.

Filming: between 14-20th June

Fox picks up 'Sky Jockeys'
Fox has made a script commitment for a new animated project from reality production company Rdf and UKTV.

"Sky Jockeys," about the comic adventures of airline employees, eventually could end up in Fox's Sunday night animated block. The project is written by U.K. scribes Anil Gupta ("The Office") and Richard Pinto ("Mutual Friends").

The news comes as UKTV network Dave announced a script development deal with Rdf ("Wife Swap") for animated and live-action comedy series, with "Sky Jockeys" as one of the projects.

"In a global market that is increasingly close-knit, we're working with our partners at Dave to develop comedies that first and foremost work within the U.K. but which also have potential to sell and succeed in territories worldwide, including the U.S.," said Chris Coelen, CEO of Rdf Media USA.
