While Gerard Butler has become synonymous with high-octane action films, it's easy to forget that he was once a straight-up romantic heartthrob. It's just as easy to forget that even now, during what's considered to be the prime of his action-hero career, he occasionally headlines the odd kids' movie and espionage thriller. Not too long ago, he starred in Joe Carnahan's Copshop, a Tarantino-esque noir that barely made a noise in theaters. He also played the lead role in director Ric Roman Waugh's Kandahar, a spy thriller inspired by real events. The movie is climbing up the streaming charts two years after its theatrical release domestically.
Kandahar was released on Prime Video in several overseas markets, and is now available to stream on HBO Max in South America. Thanks to its recent release in those markets, it has jumped to the number three spot on HBO Max's global rankings,...

It's safe to say that Gerard Butler has easily established himself as one of the great action stars of this generation. From Olympus Has Fallen and its many sequels, to Plane and the Den of Thieves franchise, Butler is everywhere these days, much to the chagrin of critics who haven't been very kind to the actor's efforts. Case in point: Butler's 2023 action thriller Kandahar, which, despite being called things like "mindless" and "predictable," continues to be a streaming hit on Tubi.
Debuting on the free streaming service last month, Kandahar quickly became a smash, storming its way to the top of the charts. Now, a month later, it remains in the Top 10, sitting comfortably at #8 at the time of this writing, sandwiched between Jean-Claude Van Damme's 1994 sci-fi thriller Timecop, and Noah Wyle's 2004 action adventure romp The Librarian: Quest for the Spear.

Lilo & Stitch North America Box Office: Zooms Past American Sniper’s Domestic Haul ( Photo Credit – Facebook )
Disney’s Lilo & Stitch continues to be a box office juggernaut in North America and overseas. It has amassed $350 million+ so far in North America, and with that, it has beaten Clint Eastwood’s American Sniper, moving closer to achieving a notable feat. Keep scrolling for more.
Clint Eastwood’s film is a biographical war drama based on Chris Kyle’s memoir of the same name with Scott McEwen and Jim Defelice. On the other hand, the Disney live-action remake has lost its ruling position due to the release of How to Train Your Dragon and Materialists. But slowing it down is not possible. It is still collecting favorable numbers worldwide.

Batman may be the most grounded of the major superheroes. He has no superpowers, just years of athletic training and cultivating of knowledge. The most acclaimed Batman movies, Christopher Nolan's "Dark Knight" films, were all about adding realism to the legend of Batman, which has definitely affected public perception of and expectations of a Batman film. But that realism can be limiting. Batman is a fantastic pulp adventurer, and ideally, Gotham City should be a place where the impossible can happen.
One Batman movie that dives right into the unrealistic is 2023's "Batman: The Doom That Came to Gotham." Adapted from a 2001 comic mini-series by Mike Mignola, Richard Pace, and Troy Nixey, "The Doom That Came to Gotham" is one of the best animated Batman films ever made. It's an "Elseworlds" tale, which reimagines a DC hero in a different time or genre.

“The Night Agent” has returned with many new faces. Now that Peter Sutherland is officially a night agent, he must take on a new conspiracy mission with a new team.
Gabriel Basso will pick up the action, starring as Peter, and Luciane Buchanan will return as Rose. Though the couple ended their relationship at the end of Season 1, when Rose hears Peter is in trouble, she jumps at the opportunity to rekindle their relationship.
Because this season follows Peter on a new mission, several members of the original cast will not be back for Season 2, though, including Hong Chau and Robert Patrick.

Plot: Based on the novel by Matthew Quirk, The Night Agent is a sophisticated, character-based, action-thriller centering on a low level FBI Agent , Peter Sutherland, whose efforts to save The President in Season 1 earn him an opportunity to become a Night Agent in Season 2. But working in the secretive organization of Night Action will propel Peter into a world where danger is everywhere and trust is in short supply.

Two months after the Season 2 finale, the future of The Old Man on FX has been revealed. Unfortunately, it's not good news for fans of the series.
Per Deadline, FX has officially canceled The Old Man after two seasons, so there will not be a third season of the Jeff Bridges-led series. The show meeting its fate comes after wading through some troubled waters with its production for its two seasons. Season 1 began development in 2019 and was forced to shut down with just three episodes left to film because of the pandemic in 2020. Filming was further postponed as Bridges underwent cancer treatment; he announced in 2021 that his cancer was in remission, and production on The Old Man resumed in 2022.

FX has canceled its drama series The Old Man after two seasons.
The series, starring Jeff Bridges as a retired CIA operative pressed back into action, performed well in its first season in 2022 and earned two Emmy nominations, for Bridges’ lead performance and cinematography.
Production on season two stopped during last year’s dual labor strikes, leading to a gap of more than two years between seasons – not unusual for a streaming series but hard to overcome for a show that originates on a linear channel, as The Old Man did on FX. The cancellation comes about eight weeks after season two aired its finale in late October.
FX declined comment.
The second — and now final — season is up for three Critics Choice Awards in January: best drama series, best actor in a drama for Bridges and best supporting actor in a drama for John Lithgow.

“The Old Man” finished his last mission on FX.
The spy thriller series, starring Jeff Bridges, John Lithgow, Amy Brenneman and Alia Shawkat, has been canceled at the cable network after two seasons. Though it held its critical acclaim, the show failed to keep the momentum from its celebrated first season following an extended production hiatus credited to the Hollywood strikes.
“The Old Man” premiered in June 2022 on FX and became the network’s most-watched series premiere since January 2021, as well as FX’s most-watched series premiere on Hulu at the time. With a break between seasons of two years and three months, however, the show failed to match those impressive ratings when it returned for Season 2 in September of this year.

Deadline reports that FX has cancelled The Old Man after two seasons. The series, which is based on the bestselling novel of the same name by Thomas Perry, stars Jeff Bridges as former CIA agent Dan Chase and John Lithgow as former FBI Assistant Director Harold Harper.
The cancellation largely stems from the multiple delays the series has experienced. Production was first shut down due to the Covid-19 pandemic. When production resumed months later, it had to halt soon after when Bridges was diagnosed with lymphoma and contracted Covid-19 while in treatment. Nearly a year later, Bridges announced he was in remission, and work on the first season was finally completed. On this special day, we are more grateful than ever for the sacrifices made by those who have served in the armed forces. Why does Veterans Day always fall on the 11th of November, you might ask? A day when everyone from all walks of life can unite to pay our respects to veterans from all wars has its origins dating back to World War I. At 11:00a.m. Paris local time on the 11th of November, 1918, the Armistice of Compiègne was signed to officially end WWI.
This Veterans Day, we are recognizing the importance of Veterans as storytellers. To celebrate, with the support of an anonymous generous donor, Film Independent is inviting 100 U.S. Military Veteran (working or aspiring) filmmakers or actors in the entertainment industry to receive a Film Independent Membership, for a contribution of just $1.00! Warning: The following story contains spoilers from “The Old Man” Season 2, Episode 8.
The second season of FX’s “The Old Man” may have ended on a truly jaw-dropping power flip, but for series developer and executive producer Jonathan E. Steinberg, it was “a long time coming.”
Season 2 revolved around saving Angela/Emily (Alia Shawkat), a goal that required Chase (Jeff Bridges) to team up with his former partner-turned-rival Harper (John Lithgow) to rescue the woman they both see as a daughter. That journey forced them to put their differences aside and travel to Afghanistan. But as Angela/Emily spent more time in the country, she learned that her real father was actually Faraz Hamzad (Navid Negahban). In the process, she embraced her new identity and discovered her heritage, becoming Parwana Hamzad.
The season ended in a complete upset. In order to ensure Parwana’s safe return to America, Harper partnered with his ex-wife,...

The good news for fans of “The Night Agent,” Netflix’s conspiracy thriller that’s one of its most popular series of all time, is that it’s snagged an early Season 3 renewal months ahead of its Season 2 premiere, Netflix announced Tuesday, along with some first look photos of Season 3. The bad news is that the premiere has been pushed to 2025. On balance, more positive than negative, we’d say.
Season 2 was originally slated to premiere in 2024, but has been pushed to winter 2025. This will mean Season 2 premieres close to two years after Season 1 premiered in March 2023. But the gap between Seasons 2 and 3 is likely to be smaller, as work on Season 3 is already underway. Filming on the 10-episode third season is scheduled to start later this year in Istanbul and move to its home base in New York in 2025.

Theres nothing more exciting than seeing an A-List actor cast in an awesome action TV show. The best action TV shows ever generally feature actors who are relatively unknown or tend to stick to the smaller screen. So, when a massive name is attached to a project, viewers are far more likely to take an interest in it.
While some action TV shows are canceled too soon, the appearance of an A-lister often helps keep a series on the air. This is proved in other genres, too, and there are many great crime TV shows with A-List actors. From action-packed sequences with brilliant explosions and tense situations to subtler scenes with unexpected deaths and violence, these A-List actors are fantastic additions to these TV shows.

This is proved in other genres, too, and there are many great crime TV shows with A-List actors. From action-packed sequences with brilliant explosions and tense situations to subtler scenes with unexpected deaths and violence, these A-List actors are fantastic additions to these TV shows.

Spoiler alert! This article contains spoilers for The Old Man.Jeff Bridges has had a long career in Hollywood. He's played heroes and villains, average men and extraordinary men. He's played the Dude, the role in The Big Lebowski he's perhaps best known for. But he's never played anyone quite like Dan Chase, the lead character in The Old Man.
Dan (or Johnny or Henry or Peter or whatever his name is this week) is a former CIA operative who has been living off the grid since he absconded from Afghanistan with Belour (Leem Lubany/Hiam Abbass), the wife of the warlord, Faraz Hamzad (Pej Vahdat/Navid Negahban), he served during the Soviet-Afghan War in the 1980s. He lived this way peacefully for 30 years until one night someone breaks into his house and he's forced to go on the run.
The story of The Old Man alone would be enough to get people's attention,...

July 2022 is the last time we had new episodes of The Old Man. It's definitely been a long wait for us fans! The show got an early renewal, which we weren't surprised about. Well, now the time has come for the series to return!
The Old Man season 2 premieres tonight, Sept. 12, 2024 starting at 10 p.m. Et on FX with back-to-back episodes. So once the first episode is over, be sure to stick around! That's because episode 2 will air right after as well. After premiere day, we'll move to one release a week until the finale of the 8-episode season. Episodes stream on Hulu the next day as well. Amazingly, before they co-starred together in the FX thriller The Old Man, Hollywood veterans Jeff Bridges and John Lithgow had never acted together before. And in the first season, they didn’t act together much either.
“We barely worked together in the first season,” Lithgow points out to TVLine, with his former FBI assistant director Harold Harper and Bridges’ former CIA agent Dan Chase only speaking over the phone for most of Season 1. (“And even then, the script supervisor was on the phone.”) But despite only having “one afternoon of rehearsal” with Bridges, Lithgow recalls, “we knew it was gonna work…...

The Old Man is carrying on over at FX as star Jeff Bridges resumes his journey as Dan Chase (or at least that’s the name he’s currently going by), a former CIA operative who is currently setting off to find his daughter Emily (Alia Shawkat), alongside John Lithgow‘s Harold Harper. As viewers may recall, it was uncovered in Season 1’s final moments that Emily wasn’t his biological daughter with Abbey Chase (Hiam Abbass), a.k.a. Belour Daadfar, but instead, Belour’s daughter with abandoned husband Faraz Hamzad (Navid Negahban). In anticipation of Season 2’s arrival, TV Insider caught up with leading man Bridges to see where Dan and Harold’s next chapter will take them. FX “The second season picks up where the first season left off just hours later,” Bridges teases. “They’re on their way to Afghanistan and they’re trying to figure...
