It's safe to say that Gerard Butler has easily established himself as one of the great action stars of this generation. From Olympus Has Fallen and its many sequels, to Plane and the Den of Thieves franchise, Butler is everywhere these days, much to the chagrin of critics who haven't been very kind to the actor's efforts. Case in point: Butler's 2023 action thriller Kandahar, which, despite being called things like "mindless" and "predictable," continues to be a streaming hit on Tubi.

Debuting on the free streaming service last month, Kandahar quickly became a smash, storming its way to the top of the charts. Oscar-winning documentarian Luc Jacquet (March of the Penguins) will head up the jury of the 2025 immersive competition at this year’s Cannes film festival, judging VR and interactive works in this year’s lineup (see full list below).

Known for his award-winning documentaries, Jacquet has also worked in immersive formats, including with his recent Terra Incognita exhibit, which took visitors on a virtual journey from Patagonia to the South Pole.

Joining Jacquet on the Cannes immersive jury are Japanese video game designer Tetsuya Mizuguchi, creator of Rez and Tetris Effect; American artist Laurie Anderson, who premiered her latest multidisciplinary work Ark: United States V in Manchester last year; British director Martha Fiennes, known for pioneering AI-driven film environments; and French author and performer Tania de Montaigne, whose work Noire won the best immersive work award in Cannes last year.

Gabriel Basso will pick up the action, starring as Peter, and Luciane Buchanan will return as Rose. Though the couple ended their relationship at the end of Season 1, when Rose hears Peter is in trouble, she jumps at the opportunity to rekindle their relationship.

Two months after the Season 2 finale, the future of The Old Man on FX has been revealed. Unfortunately, it's not good news for fans of the series.

Per Deadline, FX has officially canceled The Old Man after two seasons, so there will not be a third season of the Jeff Bridges-led series. The show meeting its fate comes after wading through some troubled waters with its production for its two seasons. Season 1 began development in 2019 and was forced to shut down with just three episodes left to film because of the pandemic in 2020. Filming was further postponed as Bridges underwent cancer treatment; he announced in 2021 that his cancer was in remission, and production on The Old Man resumed in 2022.

FX has canceled its drama series The Old Man after two seasons.

The series, starring Jeff Bridges as a retired CIA operative pressed back into action, performed well in its first season in 2022 and earned two Emmy nominations, for Bridges’ lead performance and cinematography.

Production on season two stopped during last year’s dual labor strikes, leading to a gap of more than two years between seasons – not unusual for a streaming series but hard to overcome for a show that originates on a linear channel, as The Old Man did on FX. The cancellation comes about eight weeks after season two aired its finale in late October.

FX declined comment.

The second — and now final — season is up for three Critics Choice Awards in January: best drama series, best actor in a drama for Bridges and best supporting actor in a drama for John Lithgow.

The second season of FX’s “The Old Man” may have ended on a truly jaw-dropping power flip, but for series developer and executive producer Jonathan E. Steinberg, it was “a long time coming.”

Last week’s episode found Emily Chase/Angela Adams’ (Alia Shawkat) father, former CIA agent Dan Chase (Jeff Bridges), and her surrogate father, former FBI assistant director Harold Harper (John Lithgow), gallivanting around the globe to avenge the then-believed death of their beloved daughter by Russian mercenaries who are part of an international cartel in Afghanistan trying to take control of a mega-wealthy lithium deposit owned by a small tribal community.

The community’s chief was a man named Faraz Hamzad (Navid Negahban), who happened to be Emily’s real father. Emily, now going by her birth name Parwana Hamzad, was taken away as a child by her mother to grow up...

The good news for fans of “The Night Agent,” Netflix’s conspiracy thriller that’s one of its most popular series of all time, is that it’s snagged an early Season 3 renewal months ahead of its Season 2 premiere, Netflix announced Tuesday, along with some first look photos of Season 3. The bad news is that the premiere has been pushed to 2025. On balance, more positive than negative, we’d say.

Season 2 was originally slated to premiere in 2024, but has been pushed to winter 2025. This will mean Season 2 premieres close to two years after Season 1 premiered in March 2023. But the gap between Seasons 2 and 3 is likely to be smaller, as work on Season 3 is already underway. Filming on the 10-episode third season is scheduled to start later this year in Istanbul and move to its home base in New York in 2025.

Big news has been revealed about the future of The Night Agent on Netflix. While the series has scored a very early renewal for Season 3, the wait for Season 2 is going to be much longer than expected.

Netflix has officially announced that The Night Agent has been renewed for Season 3. However, it's also been announced that Season 2 won't be dropping on the streaming platform until Winter 2025. The season was previously expected to be released in 2024 following the first season's debut in March 2023. Netflix announced the renewal for Season 2 just days after the show's premiere.

On Oct. 8, Netflix made the announcement everyone has been waiting for: The Night Agent season 2 will be released in winter 2025. We still don't have an official month, but we know it will be sometime right in the beginning of the new year!

Wasting no time at all, the streaming already renewed the hit series for season 3, which begins production in Istanbul before the end of 2024 with additional filming in New York City in 2025. Netflix has given an early Season 3 renewal to its hit actioner “The Night Agent,” in advance of the show’s second season return in Winter 2025. The series, from Sony Pictures Television, is set to begin a production unit in Istanbul at the end of the year, and then will turn its attention back to filming in New York in 2025.

The streamer announced the additional pickup while sharing first-look images for “The Night Agent” Season 2. Gabriel Basso stars in the series, which comes from creator Shawn Ryan (“The Shield”) and is based on the novel by Matthew Quirk.

In Season 1, low-level FBI agent Peter Sutherland (Basso) helped save the U.S. President’s life, earning him the chance to become a Night Agent. Per Netflix’s logline, in Season 2, “working in the secretive organization of Night Action will propel Peter into a world where danger is everywhere and trust is in short supply.

We have good news… and better news… for fans of The Night Agent.

For starters, the Netflix adaptation is set to release Season 2 on the 2025 side of this winter, the streamer announced on Tuesday, while also releasing a flurry of first photos (seen above and below).

Though work and the highly-anticipated debut of the second season were delayed because of the writers and actors strikes that began in summer 2023. Well, now the time has come for the series to return!

The Old Man season 2 premieres tonight, Sept. 12, 2024 starting at 10 p.m. Et on FX with back-to-back episodes. So once the first episode is over, be sure to stick around!
