‘When The Stars Gossip’ Episodes 7-8 Recap & Ending Explained: Will Ryong And Eve Die?
Image
Episodes 7 and 8 of When The Stars Gossip may be the most adrenaline-pumping episodes to date. In these episodes, the astronauts end up in huge trouble after the space station comes into the path of some debris. At the same time, Ryong has to make sure the egg that he has fertilized remains incubated until it becomes a morula. This proves much more complicated because he won’t have a power source for the incubator. With limited time on their hands, Ryong and Eve’s fates are left undetermined. I feel like the show has slowly been building to this point. Seeing as we’re only at the midpoint of the show, things are going to get super exciting and way more interesting as we go into the latter half. Sure, the space stuff will be behind us, but from my understanding, this show is mainly about family and childbirth. I...

Can't get enough of Koh Hansu in Apple TV's sweeping epic series Pachinko? Starring the "queen of romantic comedies" Gong Hyo-jin, Netflix's newest Korean drama tells the story of an unlikely romance that blossoms in the most dazzling setting of all — outer space! When the Star Gossip brings back Lee Min-ho's iconic comedic talents as seen in Boys Over Flowers and Personal Taste. The Pachinko star plays Gong Ryong, an intelligent obstetrician-gynecologist who suddenly embarks on a once-in-a-lifetime trip to a space station with a secret mission at stake. When the Stars Gossip Review: Stellar Performances, Grounded Themes
Image
” When the Stars Gossip ” presents a unique narrative that blends a romantic comedy with a sci-fi backdrop. The series follows Gong Ryong, an Ob-gyn who gets involved in a task that combines his personal redemption with his scientific ambition on a space station in 2025. This unusual setting heightens the stakes and feelings and enables a compelling exploration of relationships.

Space is profoundly important as a backdrop. As the characters fight to balance ambition and love, it is a metaphor for loneliness and connection. Reflecting a generational shift toward more emotional storytelling, this cosmic setting is relevant to modern social fears.

The series is visually stunning, with cinematography that catches both space’s grandeur and personal space’s intimacy. The editing and sound design improve the narrative’s rhythm, which honors individual and group experiences. Ultimately, “When the Stars Gossip” follows conventional rules while quietly breaking them, making it a rich cultural artifact that merits exploration.

With Lee Min-ho and Gong Hyo-jin leading the cast of When the Stars Gossip, the series follows their two characters as they go into space and begin to fall in love with each other. When the Stars Gossip is a groundbreaking series, as it is the first Netflix romantic K-drama to have a story that is set in space.

So far, the first two episodes of When the Stars Gossip have received positive reviews, with the stellar cast, chemistry between the primary protagonists, and interesting plot being the highlights. As the first K-drama to be released on the streaming platform in 2025, there's a lot of pressure for the show to exceed expectations. The first two episodes of the series have shown that the Netflix...

‘When The Stars Gossip’ Episode 1 Recap & Ending Explained: Why Did Gong Ryong Go Unconscious?
Image
Lee Min-Ho and Kong Hyo-Jin starrer, When The Stars Gossip, finally graced our screens on the 4th of January 2025. Before we get into what happens in the episode, I’ve got to add that along with a stellar leading cast of familiar faces, the first episode has cameos from beloved stars Cho Jung-Seok (Hospital Playlist) and Park Jin-Joo (It’s Okay To Not Be Okay). Unlike what you’d imagine, this show is entirely unserious and finally uses Lee Min-Ho’s impeccable comic timing for some hands-on entertainment. He plays Gong Ryong, an obstetrician who ends up the potential son-in-law of the CEO of the largest conglomerate in Korea, the Mz Group. Somehow, this leads to Gong Ryong going to space as a “tourist” on a hush-hush mission, having paid 70 billion won (by his father-in-law). The mission is essentially for research on unresolved human crises like dementia and infertility. I think...

Film Review: Hit-and-Run Squad (2019) by Han Jun-hee
Image
“Hit-and-Run-Squad” is a 2019 police procedural film which managed to generate a huge buzz before its release due to a stellar cast of popular actors.

“Hit-and-Run Squad” is available from Echelon Studios

Released back in January, 2019 in South Korea, the movie tells the story of a police officer, Eun Shi-Yeon (Gong Hyo-jin), who is transferred to a hit-and-run team after a failed investigation involving police corruption. Eun Shi-Yeon joins forces with officer Seo Min-Jae (Ryu Jun-yeol) and team-leader Woo Sun-Young (Jeon Hye-jin) in order to catch Jung Jae-Cheol (Jo Jung-suk), a racing maniac who also happens to be a business tycoon. However, catching the culprit proves to be an arduous undertaking.

Even though the title of the film clearly implies car action, you have to be aware that the it is primarily a crime thriller with racing elements rather than the other way round. All in all, not everything car-related has...

Korean Horror Shows We Want To See Come To The U.S. Next
Image
Korea has never been a stranger to the horror genre, but it seems that in recent decades the country has been producing some high-quality horror movies and TV shows that deserve far larger audiences. While many audiences associate horror with visceral thrills that emphasize graphic violence and explicit supernatural elements, Korean horror is often typified by more character-driven stories, explorations of deeper themes, and pointed social commentary. There also tends to be a Korean horror film or TV show for any pop culture fan as there's quite a bit of genre mixing, from "intense crime horror" to "lighthearted romantic comedy horror" to "whimsical fantasy horror" and everything in between.

Unfortunately, there aren't very many Korean horror shows that are easily available in the U.S. yet, but the massive success of the Netflix Korean series "Squid Game" could hopefully spark international interest in Korean shows that dive into darker and more suspenseful subjects.

Nyaff 09 Review: Crush And Blush (Review Two)
[Our thanks to Charles Webb for the following review.]

It takes a bold actress to take a part like the one starlet Hyo-jin Kong inhabits in the wonderful Crush and Blush. It’s not just an “ugly” role because the actress is barely recognizable under makeup and a series of ticks and twitches. Her character Mi-sook Yang is profoundly unattractive because she has transformed herself over the years into a person who is so ground down by failure and disappointment that she insists to the world that being number 1 (and therefore success) is for suckers. And still, I wanted to spend a couple of hours with this character.
