So Ji-seob in Mercy for None (2025)
Netflix’s new K‑drama Mercy for None debuted globally on June 6, 2025. Written by Yoo Ki‑seong and directed by Choi Sung‑eun, it stars So Ji‑sub as Nam Gi‑jun, a former gangster returning to Seoul’s criminal underworld to avenge his younger brother’s death. With a thriller-meets-noir tone and built on a fan-favorite webtoon, the series has quickly become a hot topic among viewers and critics. This article explores Mercy for None’s (2025) premise, cast, filming, and what makes it stand out.

About the Series:

Mercy for None (2025) is a seven-episode action-noir drama (40–50 min each) based on the popular webtoon Plaza Wars: Mercy for None, written by Oh Se-hyung and illustrated by Kim Gyun-tae. The show adapts its layered revenge story and brutal gangland politics directly from the source material, staying close to its themes of loyalty, power, and betrayal. The Roundup: No Way Out Review: Don Lee Fights Familiar Crime in Korea's Streets
Image
In 2017, the first installment of a franchise (often called Crime City) was released, one that has broken records in South Korea: The Outlaws. When it came out, it became one of the best-selling R-rated movies in the country; when the sequel, The Roundup, came out in 2022, the series was elevated to all-new heights. It was the third-highest-grossing South Korean movie in the country’s history, and the country's first release since Parasite to have over 10 million viewers watch the film in only 25 days. Now, in 2023, a third edition to the franchise is being released in South Korea and abroad: The Roundup: No Way Out. A fourth movie is scheduled to come out in theaters in 2024.

Don Lee, also known as Ma Dong-seok, stars in every film of the franchise as Ma Seok-do. Lee Sang-yong, who directed The Roundup in 2022, returns for The Roundup: No Way Out, which also features Lee Joon-hyuk as the antagonist,...

Ma Dong-seok in The Roundup (2022)
Teaser Trailer: The Roundup: No Way Out by Lee Sang-yong
Ma Dong-seok in The Roundup (2022)
Monster detective Ma Seok-do is back! After smashing his way through Philippines and the Korean box office, he is back in Korea to smash the living daylights out of the bad guys in “The Roundup” director Lee Sang-yong’s followup to the ninth highest grossing Korean film of all time.

Synopsis

Detective Ma Seok-do joins a new crime investigation unit led by Jang Tae-soo and includes Detective Kim Man-jae. They go up against Joo Seong-cheol, who is the son of a powerful chaebol family. The Japanese yakuza are also involved in the case.

After the terrific negative turns by both Yoon Kye-sang and Son Suk-ku in the first two parts respectively, the responsibility of being at the brunt of Ma Dong-seok’s punches falls on Lee Joon-hyuk, who plays the big baddie Joo Seong-cheol this time round. Lee Beom-soo and Kim Min-jae make up the detective team as Jang Tae-soo and Kim Man-jae respectively.

Singer/Actor Rain Pulls Out Of X-Men: Dark Phoenix; Leaked Audition Tape Points To The Shi’ar Empire
Filming on X-Men: Dark Phoenix is due to commence next month, that much we know, but one cast member that allegedly won’t be involved whatsoever is Rain, the South Korean singer and actor who became linked with an undisclosed role in the 20th Century Fox tentpole earlier this year.

First reported by South Korean outlet JoongAng Ilbo – and relayed to us by Newsarama – a scheduling conflict has now forced Rain to exit Dark Phoneix altogether. Best known on these shores for his performances across Speed Racer, Ninja Assassin and The Prince, the news was initially revealed by fellow actor Lee Beom Soo, who’s set to star alongside Rain in the upcoming Korean thriller, Uhm Bok-dong. It’s scheduled to film throughout the course of the summer, thereby clashing with Fox’s own production plan for X-Men: Dark Phoenix. Not only that, but we understand that Rain is attached...

Korea goes Superhero with Hong Kil-dong’s Descendents
With the action comedy Hong Kil-dong’s Descendents, director Yong-ki Jeong (Once Upon a Time) takes on the masked (super) hero genre that has been ignored by South Korea’s film makers for quite some time now. Beom-su Lee plays an inconspicuous high school teacher who follows the trait of his ancestor, the legendary Robin Hood like hero Hong Kil-dong by committing spectacular break-ins at night. His nemesis (Su-ro Kim) is a cold blooded businessman who gains more and more power by bribing politicians. Si-yeong Lee (Ogamdo) acts as eye candy and the potential love interest.

[See post to watch Flash video]

Hong Kil-dong’s Descendents will open on November 26th across South Korea.
