Castlevania: Nocturne Fans Need To Check Out This Classic Anime
Image
There's a lot to love in Netflix's animated "Castlevania" shows. Based on the hit video game franchise of the same name, the sharply animated shows feature a fun alternate history to our own, where real-world events have been altered by the inclusion of supernatural beings like vampires and demons. There are some truly great characters with a lot of charm, some fantastically tragic antiheroes, and some good old-fashioned blood and gore. The sequel series, "Castlevania: Nocturne," has done well for the streamer, continuing the story set forth in "Castlevania" and setting up one of the best storylines in the whole saga, "Symphony of the Night."

But even if Netflix inexplicably gives "Castlevania" the axe (or stake), there's great news for fans who just can't get enough of vampires, alternate history, amazing animated violence, and guys named Alucard, because there's a classic anime franchise that contains all of those things: "Hellsing.

Every Time a Character Sacrificed Their Powers in Bleach
Image
From Masaki Kurosaki sacrificing her life to save Ichigo Kurosaki to Yoruichi Shihoin, sacrificing her career and home to save Kisuke Urahara, Tessai Tsukabishi and the Visored characters in Bleach are often put in the position to make sacrifices. One of the more common types of sacrifice in Bleach is a character giving up their powers for some greater goal. Often, this is like burning out their power for a single moment of strength. Even when these powers are given up, most of the time they can be brought back, though.

Ichigo's use of the Final Getsuga Tensho may be the most iconic of all these sacrifices, but several of the people close to him have done the same thing. Rukia Kuchiki gives him her abilities to save his life. Uryu Ishida may deny being Ichigo's friend, but they share some of the same methods. Even Ichigo's father, Isshin Kurosaki,...

Anime Director Reveals the Gundam Show to Watch 'Even If You Haven't Seen the Other Gundam Series'
Image
The Mobile Suit Gundam franchise is now over 45 years old and has more than 60 anime shows and movies to its name. With so many series to choose from, it can be intimidating for a newcomer to break into the universe, but a Gundam episode director has now recommended one of the best places to start.

Originally created by director Yoshiyuki Tomino, the Gundam series has gained massive popularity all over the world, and it's become easily the most globally recognizable mecha anime franchise to date. One artist who worked under Tomino on Turn A Gundam has many good things to say, both about director Tomino himself and the series they worked on together. In a recent interview with Febri in honor of the 25th anniversary of Turn A Gundam, Masakazu Hishida, who worked on the anime as an assistant director and storyboarder, shared his experiences.

As a member of the Sternritter, Bazz-b is one of the strongest Quincy in Bleach. Bazz-b can use various Quincy abilities, with his weapon of choice being a hand crossbow made of Reishi. His Schrift, known as The Heat, allows him to generate intense flames and fire them at his opponents. Bazz-b can critically injure Captain-level Soul Reapers, making him quite strong, but there are certain Bleach characters who can easily beat him.

Most of the characters who can defeat Bazz-b are Soul Reapers, who can use Shikai and Bankai, but he can also be defeated by fellow Sternritter who possess overpowered Schrifts of their own. A former Soul Reaper Captain can defeat Bazz-b because of his immeasurable spiritual pressure alone.

10 Anime MCs That Luffy Fans Will Love
Image
One Piece has set the precedent in many ways, especially when it comes to creating a larger-than-life main character like Monkey D. Luffy. Luffy is known for being that overly energetic character who rushes headfirst into danger to get that sweet taste of adventure. In doing so, he brings countless people together through his heroic acts, even though he claims he isn’t a hero. Luffy’s freedom-seeking, never-say-die attitude is what led him to become the prototypical shōnen anime protagonist.

Since One Piece’s debut in 1999, many characters have adopted some similarities to Luffy. Of course, this doesn’t mean every anime is intentionally trying to replicate Luffy’s unique traits—he is one of a kind. However, his personality type, Esfp, is one that many mangakas utilize. This personality type resonates well with audiences, and it's because ESFPs have an infectious energy and a down-to-earth nature about them.

10 Sports Anime Better Than Blue Lock, Ranked
Image
Blue Lock captivated anime fans with its first season. It's unique take on sports mixed with a battle royale added a fresh take to the shonen world of sports anime. However, fans have found season two to be incredibly disappointing, with a story that veers off from original expectations and animation that fans find lacking. Blue Lock may have started strong, but it ran out of steam in its second season, leaving many fans disappointed.

However, the world of anime has plenty of other sports anime that might pique fans' interest. Instead of focusing solely on the competition between egotistical strikers, these tales of friendship mixed with competition will satisfy anime fans far more than Blue Lock was able to. If Blue Lock didn't strike a fan's fancy or failed to live up to the hype, these ten action-packed sports anime will better live up to Blue Lock's failed expectations.

10 Shonen Girls Better Than Dandadan's Momo Ayase
Image
Dandadan is a wild and exciting new shonen anime that stars a male/female duo of heroes, Momo Ayase and the boy known as Okarun. Momo Ayase is a refreshing shonen heroine, a bold and brave teenage girl who will always stand up to bullies or monsters while pushing other people to be stronger like her. So far in Dandadan, Momo is the best part of this anime as a hard-hitting heroine with psychic powers, and her electric personality is also fun to watch.

Still, Momo Ayase has a long way to go before she can rank among the very best shonen girls. There are plenty of shonen girls out there already who either do what Momo does better than she can (so far), or they are more compelling in other ways entirely. Many of these top-tier shonen girls are powerful heroines who have saved the day many times with their own two hands,...

First One Piece Devil Fruit Users, Ranked By Strength

Devil Fruits are the main power system in One Piece, and they typically fall into three categories. Logia-Type Devil Fruits give their users control over some type of element. Zoan-type Devil Fruit users can transform into an animal or mythological being. Paramecia-type Devil Fruits are the most common, and they offer a wide variety of superhuman abilities. One Piece fans have met many Devil Fruit users over the years, but the first ten users still stand out.

Most of the first ten Devil Fruit users still appear in the series in some way, but a few of them have not shown up in over a decade. Anime Waifus You Had a Childhood Crush On
Image
Every anime fan has their ideal or number one waifu of all time. Perhaps a waifu of the month, with all the great series that come out every season. There has never been a shortage of beautiful and well-written characters, especially in the early anime of the 2000s and 2010s, with popular and highly-rated shows like Avatar: The Last Airbender and Naruto.

Gorgeous and driven characters are simply too difficult to keep out of mind. That is even more so if they show strength and persistence, both in will and physicality. There is no shame in having found a childhood dream girl in a 2D animated lady, nor is there any judgment in holding a flame for an exceptional heroine with an aesthetically pleasing character design.

One Piece: Every Baroque Works Member, Ranked By Bounty

These Anime Characters Would Be Captain-Level In Kaiju No. 8

If monster-hunting professionals somehow found themselves in each other's universes, they would actually have an easy time learning a new combat system to fight a new breed of monster. The basic concept is the same, so if certain monster hunters ended up in Kaiju No. 8's bloody world, they would quickly rise to prominence in Division 3 under Mina Ashiro's watch. Strongest Bleach Kido Users, Ranked
Image
The shonen action anime Bleach regularly expanded upon its combat system, with zanpakuto being just the start. When the anime first started, Ichigo Kurosaki had no powers except a basic zanpakuto, putting him at a disadvantage when he faced foes who could use things like shikai, bankai, and kido spells. The latter, in particular, can make any Soul Reaper far more flexible in battle beyond what their zanpakuto can do.

Ichigo never learned to use kido spells, but he did meet many characters who could, and some of them were enormously powerful with such magic. Starting in the fondly-remembered Soul Society arc, Bleach introduced its viewers to all kinds of kido spells used to protect the user, restrain a target, or deal immense damage to the enemy. Ten particular Soul Reapers stand out as the most potent kido users of all, combining kido with their zanpakuto or even martial arts...

Kaiju No. 8s Kafka Has Nothing on These Half-Other Anime Characters
Image
The Spring 2024 anime season introduced anime fans to a brand-new half-other hero, 32-year-old Kafka Hibino. He is the star of Kaiju No. 8, an anime that approaches the kaiju genre in a fresh, amusing way. In Kafka's world, kaiju attacks are routine, and it's up to cleaners like him to remove a dead kaiju's remains from the city's streets. Then, true to his name, Kafka underwent a metamorphosis in bed, becoming a kaiju himself.

Thus, Kafka Hibino became both human and kaiju, a secret power that will help him finally realize his dream of becoming a kaiju hunter like his childhood friend Mina. This also means Kafka embraces the half-other anime trope a trope that many action and fantasy fans are now familiar with in shonen and some seinen anime. A half-other taps into a bizarre other power to get stronger, at the risk of their other half controlling them or going haywire.

Bleach Characters That Became Fan-Favorites
Image
The following contains minor spoilers for Bleach.

The hit shonen anime Bleach had a lasting impact on the manga/anime world as part of the big three. All three series feature memorable character designs that helped inspire future creators, and some of Bleach's best characters definitely left an impression on fans and manga artists alike. For example, it's quite clear to anime fans that Jujutsu Kaisen's Yuji Itadori is the new Ichigo Kurosaki, minus the punk tsundere attitude.

Some Bleach characters were ultimately forgettable, such as minor side characters like Chizuru and Loly Aivirrne, but a handful of other Bleach characters had such vivid designs, they easily stuck in fans' minds for years after their introduction. It's usually the best-written and most unique characters in anime like Bleach who leave such a lasting impression, often featured in fan art, memes, and fanfiction.

Anime Characters Just Like Jujutsu Kaisen's Nobara Kugisaki
Image
Jujutsu Kaisen is a hugely popular shonen action anime with a small, but lovable cast of heroes, which includes protagonist Yuji Itadori and his sorcerer friends. Yuji is a likable male lead who feels fairly representative of other shonen heroes like One Piece's Luffy and My Hero Academia's Izuku Midoriya. That being said, Yuji's friends like Megumi Fushiguro and Nobara Kugisaki may also remind Jujutsu Kaisen fans of similar characters.

Nobara Kugisaki is one of shonen's best female characters. She's a tough, reliable, sympathetic, and independently-minded character who gladly supports Yuji while still being the star of her own jujutsu sorcerer journey. Nobara is a sharp-tongued but kind tsundere, a fearless fighter, and a great example of a compelling female friend and potential love interest for the protagonist.
