The appeal of sci-fi shows like Black Mirror, Dark, and Station Eleven, some of the best dystopian sci-fi TV shows, is that they explore human truths using the context of technological advancement. From body modifications to time travel, sci-fi presents the dream of breaking boundaries that physics and biology impose on us, and uses that context to confront viewers with questions about the nature of humanity. While some shows like Star Trek have such a legacy that they're not only always remembered but consistently rebooted, some equally great shows have a more unfortunate fate.
The problem of relying on viewership per season led to recent sci-fi shows getting canceled that didn't deserve it. Shows like The 100 which have aired for years provide a rich collection of compelling storylines and complex conundrums, but with rampant cancelations, shows rarely have the prospect of doing that anymore. It's a high-risk, high-reward gamble these days.

Montreal-based company represents worldwide rights excluding Canada on both titles.
Montreal-based Sphere Films has added two completed features to its Cannes line-up and will launch sales on the Croisette later this month on Queen Tut and Red Rooms.
Reem Morsi (The Last Mark) directed Queen Tut, which stars Alexandra Billings from Transparent in the story of an Egyptian teenager who leaves Cairo when his mother dies and lands in the underground queer nightlife scene in Toronto where he confronts his mother’s death by becoming a drag artist – much to his father’s disapproval.

The latest chapter of Slasher is well underway.
On Slasher: Ripper Episode 3, Basil (Eric McCormack) is on a mission to unmask the Widow.
In doing so, he realizes that someone from his rich inner circle might be responsible.
If the Widow taught us anything in the first two episodes of this Shudder and AMC+ drama, they are ready to dole out justice towards the elite.
As a result, people are dropping like flies, and it looks like Basil and his powerful friends are harboring a fateful secret about an event several years before.
In an exclusive clip shared with TV Fanatic, we see the extent Basil is willing to go to get answers.
He's not the nicest person, but he strikes me as the kind of person who will find answers easier than some other characters.
With power and influence, it's easier to get things done, but in the Slasher sandbox,...

We're only a day away from the two-episode premiere of Slasher: Ripper on Shudder and AMC+, and not only do we have an exclusive clip just for Daily Dead readers, but director Adam MacDonald (Pyewacket) provided us with some behind-the-scenes details!
Synopsis: "Slasher: Ripper takes the franchise back in time to the late 19th century and follows Basil Garvey (McCormack), a charismatic tycoon whose success is only rivaled by his ruthlessness, as he oversees a city on the cusp of a new century, and a social upheaval that will see its streets run red with blood. There’s a killer stalking the mean streets, but instead of targeting the poor and downtrodden like Jack the Ripper, The Widow is meting out justice against the rich and powerful. The only person standing in the way of this killer is the newly promoted detective, Kenneth Rijkers, whose ironclad belief in justice may...

The Canadian Screen Awards has unveiled nominations for the national film and TV prize-giving, and the CBC civil rights drama The Porter leads the film and TV field with 19 mentions in all, including for best small-screen drama.
The first Canadian drama series from an all-Black creative team, which also streams on BET+, centers on the lives of Black train porters and their families as they launch North America’s first Black labor union in the 1920s.
The TV categories, voted on by around 3,000 Canadian industry insiders, also sees the CBC series Detention Adventure and Sort Of – a Peabody award-winning show about a gender fluid young Muslim in Toronto played by Bilal Baig — nab 15 nominations each in an awards show shaping up to be a major showcase for people of color.
That follows Canadian film, and TV industry efforts to ensure diversity and inclusivity in the country’s indie production sector and prize-giving process.

The Coroner series has performed well for The CW. It also doesn't cost as much for the network to air because it's licensed by a Canadian network. Unfortunately, regardless of the ratings, a fifth-season renewal is looking unlikely. Star Serinda Swan has announced that the fourth season is her last. While the producers have said that the show may continue, is that a season that people would want to watch? Will Coroner be cancelled or renewed for season five? Stay tuned.

"We're a couple of independent warriors whose only direct is – adventure!" Apple has revealed the first official trailer for a new animated series titled Pinecone & Pony, coming to Apple TV+ this spring. Based on Kate Beaton's beloved children's picture book titled "The Princess and the Pony," Pinecone & Pony is an adventure led by two independent warriors who are fearlessly themselves. As a warrior in training, Pinecone fears no challenge. Thankfully, Pony always makes sure Pinecone never gets in over her head. Together they learn life can be a fun-filled adventure. Animated by DreamWorks Animation, made up in Canada as Beaton is originally from Canada. Featuring the voices of Chase Dillon, Rachel House, Thom Allison, Viola Abley, Alicia Richardson, and Andy Hull. This just looks super cute and so much fun. We've seen many other series exactly like this, but it's still super adorable and inspiring for kids. Onward towards adventure!

That's how to set up a series finale.
All the resistance members but one were brought back together on Killjoys Season 5 Episode 9.
That one, Jaq, may turn out to be the most important piece in the final battle against The Lady.
The big happening in this penultimate episode was the reunion of the Killjoys and Aneela and Delle Sayeh Kendry, whose presence would soon prove important.
It was sweet watching "sisters" Dutch and Aneela reunite.
It also became clear that the Killjoys and Aneela and Kendry were working at cross purposes to a degree, with the former trying to save Westerley and the latter seeking to preserve Qresh.
It's unlikely that will be too much of an obstacle, however, as they all want to defeat The Lady, first and foremost.
The Killjoys' fight against The Lady has had to be a guerilla action, attacking from the shadows and using guile for lack of resources.

Fans will take one more trip to the J when Killjoys returns for its final, fifth season Friday night on Syfy.
But The Quad won't look like anything that Killjoys fanatics remember.
Blame that on The Lady of the Green, the series' big bad for the past two seasons.
Dutch, D'av, Johnny, and Dutch's doppelganger Aneela almost had the Lady trapped like a genie in a bottle on Killjoys Season 4 Episode 10.
Dutch had swapped her consciousness into Aneela's body in Green Land (for lack of a better name) at the end of Killjoys Season 4 Episode 9, with Aneela taking Dutch's place in the physical world.
Aneela's plan hinged on D'av's Green-repulsion power, which usually ends up causing results that look as gross as it sounds.
The Lady used memories to create obstacles for each, but Aneela freed Dutch, sending her to gather the Jacobis while she stalled The Lady.

With The Lady now free to roam The Quad, the world needs a hero. Can Team Awesome Force successfully follow the breadcrumbs and return the universe to its natural order? Well, now that’s going to be half the fun, isn’t it?

It feels like the second season is building toward an explosive finale.
All the puzzle pieces are fitting snugly into place, and I'm officially fearing for the lives of some of our favorite characters. Do you think the writers would kill off someone like Alvis or Pawter? Well, Killjoys Season 2 Episode 8 made it seem like no one's safe.
And who the hells is Aneela anyway? I need more answers, guys.

The opening scene of the episode really set the tone for the entire hour. Sure, there were your typical light "Killjoys" moments, but the series went to some dark places here and I'm afraid things are only going to get worse from this point forward.
Dutch confronting Johnny was gut-wrenching. Even though most of us understand his desire to help Pawter and the folks of Old Town, the lying was a tough pill to swallow.

Fembot Lucy was everything. And that kiss, you guys! 'Nuff said.
How do Michelle Lovretta and her writing team manage to cram so much sci-fi goodness into one episode? Every week I say, "That was my favorite Killjoys episode." This week with Killjoys Season 2 Episode 6, it's absolutely true.
Tons of new info was revealed. Yeah this was a good one!
This episode's opening echoed the nasty Skeevers of the last installment, only slightly more fun. For a moment, I had no idea who the hooded dude was though he sounded like D'avin. "You gave me acid?" D'av asked the old trickster.
Wasn't it hilarious the way the old fart took off thinking he'd outsmarted a pair of Killjoys? Good thing little brother was around and had a plan. Those brotherly moments between Luke and Aaron are super believable. They're a blast to watch!
Throw Dutch into the mix and that's...

It was Delle Seyah's turn to resurface this time. Now we know she's in with Khlyen.
Though both those characters seemed like the villains last season, Killjoys Season 2 Episode 4 continued to blur the lines between the good guys and baddies. Yes, Khlyen has done some terrible things, but I no longer think he is the enemy.
I thought the brother angle was touching, and it helped John and D'av bond a bit more.

Based on the "previously on Killjoys" intro, it was clear Delle Seyah Kendry was back to cause Dutch and the boys some grief. She is one of those characters we just love to hate and Mayko Nguyen plays her to perfection.
The screaming-person-in-a-pod threw me for a moment, because I kept thinking of Khlyen. Last time we saw our favorite silver fox, he was trapped by the Black Root though Level 6 Fancy was at his side.

In typical Killjoys fashion, a ton of stuff went down during this action-packed hour.
However, it's safe to say that Killjoys Season 2 Episode 2 was all about returning home and to the rest of the gang missing from the premiere. As Michelle Lovretta teased in our exclusive interview, "It's the beginning of really emotionally, I think, compelling and classic science fiction type storylines."
I'm still bummed about how Hills went out, but I think Jelco is a brilliant adversary.
Was that mirror bit at the top a hint there are multiple Dutch's out there? Clones? Alvis mentioned that scarbacks hadn't stepped foot on Arkyn for over 200 years. So how did D'av see Dutch killing them in that "very old memory"?
Is it possible Khlyen (via the green-goo) was implanting memories in D'av or is their some truth to what he saw? What the hells is going on, guys? So many cool...

Syfy’s Killjoys are back in action, having reunited with D’Avin, unearthed new questions about the mysterious Khlyen and made a couple of friends (in Clara and “Alice”) in the Season 2 opener alone.

Good ol' D'avin said it best early in the episode, "Missed you bastards!"
Luckily for us, this is no green-goo induced dream and Killjoys is finally back for another run. I am thrilled we get to spend another season with this incredible cast and crew. I can't even imagine not getting a third season, so I'm starting the #RenewKilljoys campaign early.
I didn't see the twists of Killjoys Season 2 Episode 1 coming, which is part of the fun.
Let me start by saying I loved that this installment picked up right where we left off, and that we didn't spend three episodes searching for D'avin. At just 10 episodes per season, there's really no time to waste.
While the tighter storytelling does away with any filler episodes, it also means the season will be over far too quickly. Take Game of Thrones for example, we've got to wait a year now to return to Westeros.
