Exclusive: Distributor acquires North American rights to 3D animated feature [pictured].

Distributor Wrekin Hill is understood to have paid seven figures for North American rights to TeamTO and Haut et Court’s 3D animated feature Yellowbird.

Sc Films International represents sales.

Christian De Vita’s film is currently in production and is a coming-of-age story about a teenage bird. Antoine Barraud and Guilhem Lesaffre wrote the screenplay with Cory Edwards.

Seth Green, Dakota Fanning, Danny Glover, Elliott Gould, Jim Rash and Christine Baranski provide the voice talent.

Wrekin Hill will release the film in theatres this autumn. CFO/Foo Rene Cogan and director of acquisitions Alex Mandell brokered the deal with Simon Crowe for UK-based Sc Films.

Wrekin Hill Entertainment has acquired all North American rights to Donovan Marsh’s South Africa-set heist thriller iNumber Number.

Marsh wrote the screenplay about an undercover officer who takes part in a one-off heist to get back at corrupt superiors.

Chris Ball, President and CEO of La-based film production and distribution company Wrekin Hill Entertainment, and Joel Weinshanker, President and CEO of Neca Films, a division of Neca, announced today that Morgan Spurlock’s (Super Size Me) Comic-con Episode IV: A Fan’S Hope will be released on DVD ($19.99 Srp) on July 10, 2012. The film will also be available in two Collectors Editions with figurines ($29.99Srp).

The two Collector’s Editions will contain the DVD alongside action figures of Stan Lee and Harry Knowles or Joss Whedon and Spurlock. This is the first time mega-director Whedon has been immortalized into action figure status… which will no doubt delight fans everywhere.

Wrekin Hill Entertainment acquired U.S. rights to the Ben Palmer-directed The Inbetweeners, a film that has grossed $70 million in the UK since opening last August. Iain Morris and Damon Beesley penned the script for the film based on the British TV series. The film stars James Buckley, Blake Harrison, and Joe Thomas. Morgan Spurlock's new Comic-Con documentary Comic-Coc Episode IV: A Fan's Hope has been acquired by Wrecken Hill Entertainment and they will be distributing the film, with plans to release it in the Spring of 2012.

I'm not the biggest fan of Spurlock, the guy and his films just seem to annoy me. But I love Comic-Con, it's my favorite event of the year. The documentary will be interesting to watch, and it will be good introduction to people that don't know what Comic-Con is really about. As for people like myself and like many of your, we live the adventure every year for real, and we love it.

After months of speculation that went hand-in-hand with talk of Oscars, the U.S. distribution contest for Zhang Yimou‘s The Flowers of War has ended a tad anticlimacticly. A press release announces that Wrekin Hill — the company recently behind Hesher, The People vs. George Lucas, and The Way Back — have picked up the Christian Bale starrer for an opening later this year. With Row 1, they’ll release it in New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco “in late December 2011,” rolling it out to other markets at the start of next year.

Awards hope isn’t completely dissipated by this news — but it could very well be hurt. Wrekin Hill is a very small distributor who couldn’t find the proper method to support Peter Weir‘s The Way Back, a film that could have easily earned a nomination for something more technical — cinematography, perhaps — so long as it had the proper backing.

Ball will continue his association with Newmarket's owner, Exclusive Media Group, getting the new shingle started by releasing the Peter Weir-directed The Way Back, the harrowing period survival tale that stars Ed Harris, Jim Sturgess, Saoirse Ronan, Mark Strong and Colin Farrell. Wreckin will also release the Billy Joel documentary The Last Play at Shea. Both pictures were financed by Exclusive. Chris Ball is leaving Newmarket Films, which he co-founded in 1994, to form a new distribution company Wrekin Hill.

In November, Exclusive Media Group acquired Newmarket, which has produced such movies as "Memento" and released titles like "The Passion of the Christ," and Ball took on the added title of co-chairman of Exclusive.

Although his new company will continue to do business with Exclusive, Ball said in an announcement, issued jointed with Exclusive CEO and co-chairman Nigel Sinclair, that "forming Wrekin Hill will give me and my partners the flexibility to work on a wide variety of films and craft distribution plans that are unique and appropriately scaled for each film we acquire."

Ball's Newmarket colleagues Rene Cogan, COO-chief financial officer, and John Crye, president of production and acquisitions, will join him at Wrekin Hill.
