Real Reason Why We Never Got to See ‘Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’ Season 5
Image
The creators of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Tina Fey and Robert Carlock, together with Netflix, decided to conclude the show after 4 seasons rather than it getting cancelled abruptly. The showrunners recognised that the protagonist Kimmy’s journey had reached its natural ending, and the various conflicts in the story had been resolved.

They saw no point in overreaching and came up with a respectable two-part final season, which even brought Kimmy and the Reverend together for a showdown. Season 5 never got commissioned because all parties involved were of the belief that the narrative of the show was done, and any extra seasons might just harm the brilliance they had created.

Makers and Netflix Made a Joint Decision to End Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt After Season 4

When the mole women were discovered and rescued from the bunker, they had a long journey ahead of them. Kimmy moved to the big city and learned everything from the start,...

Why Netflix Canceled Girls5eva After Three Seasons
Image
Right at the end of 2024, a bunch of "Girls5Eva" fans — myself very much included — got terrible news. According to Variety and other major outlets, the show — which moved from Peacock to Netflix after the conclusion of its second season and premiered its third on Reed Hastings' streamer — never made it into Netflix's top 10. That meant it just wasn't popular enough, so it got axed.

This is a crying shame because "Girls5Eva," created by "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt" veteran Meredith Scardino, is just so unbelievably funny, and I personally rallied for its third season to earn a spot on /Film's list of the best TV shows of 2024. With Tina Fey and Robert Carlock on board as executive producers, it's no surprise that the jokes fly just as fast as they did on that duo's outstanding show "30 Rock," and the plot of this unfortunately canceled comedy is pretty irresistable to boot: Former...

The Effort To Save Night Court Gets A Disappointing Update After NBC Canceled The Revival
Image
The chances of Night Courtseason 4 getting saved get a disappointing update. Debuting on NBC in January 2023, with Dan Rubin as showrunner, the reboot of the popular 1980s sitcom is headlined by The Big Bang Theory alum Melissa Rauch as Abby Stone. The daughter of the late Harry Stone, Abby soon links up with original Night Court character Dan Fielding (John Larroquette). Although the comedy got off to a strong start, ratings dropped sharply soon after its high-profile premiere. The reboot was cancelled in May after three seasons.

It had been mentioned that Warner Bros. Television, one of the production companies behind the reboot, would shop the series to other potential platforms after it was axed by NBC. But in an update from TVLine, it's mentioned that the chances of Night Court season 4 happening are “not great”:

Early efforts to shop the sitcom revival, which was cancelled after three seasons on NBC,...

7 new shows with the most Emmy potential after Upfronts
Image
You've probably heard about several new shows this week. Upfronts — the mid-May period when networks pitch their new offerings to advertisers — wrapped up on Wednesday. And while the list of new projects isn’t as robust as it once was in today’s fractured media landscape, a handful of titles unveiled this week — whether newly announced or accompanied by fresh footage (most trailers shown to advertisers haven’t been publicly released yet) — do sound promising. And if everything works out, maybe they’ll find themselves on the doorstep of the Emmys in a year’s time (or later).

Here are seven shows from Upfronts that have the most Emmy potential.

Task (HBO)

The last two times Mark Ruffalo worked with HBO? He won an Emmy both times. The last time Brad Ingelsby worked with HBO? Three of his actors won Emmys. So what we're saying is Task has the makings of an Emmy success.

Daniel Radcliffe Is Back on TV in a New Comedy Series Starring Tracy Morgan

Tracy Morgan is headed back to NBC, and Daniel Radcliffe is coming with him. The duo will star in a previously untitled sitcom from Morgan's Saturday Night Live and 30 Rock colleague Tina Fey, which is now called The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins. Variety reports the half-hour comedy has been picked up to series by NBC, who also released the first image from the series.

In the first image, Morgan (playing the titular Dinkins) sits on a park bench with Radcliffe and co-star Erika Alexander (Living Single). Morgan will play Reggie Dinkins, a disgraced running back trying to rehabilitate his image. Tracy Morgan's 30 Rock Replacement Starring Daniel Radcliffe Receives Exciting Update
Image
In early March, it was announced that NBC had a new replacement for 30 Rock fans. The new comedy would also feature Harry Potter lead actor Daniel Radcliffe.

Initially, the comedy series only had an order for a pilot. The 30 Rock replacement sitcom would also feature Tracy Morgan in the leading role, who would reunite with several colleagues, including co-showrunners Tina Fey and Robert Carlock, as well as writer Sam Means. Per Deadline, the comedy series has received a massive update, as it has officially received the title The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins, and NBC picked up the single-camera comedy pilot to series.

The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins Season 1 will reportedly consist of 10 episodes. NBC hasn't officially announced a release schedule, and its short episode count indicates a midseason launch. The comedy is not part of NBC's recently announced schedule for September and October, which...

NBC Gives Series Order To Tracy Morgan Comedy Pilot Executive Produced By Tina Fey For 2025-26
Image
The 30 Rock reunion of former star Tracy Morgan, creator, star and co-showrunner Tina Fey, co-showrunner Robert Carlock and writer Sam Means has been extended. The network has picked up the quartet’s single-camera comedy pilot, also starring Daniel Radcliffe, to series, which will be titled The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins.

I hear the order is for 10 episodes. That typically indicates a midseason launch but NBC has not specified when the series will premiere. The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins is not on the fall 2025 schedule unveiled by NBC in conjunction with its upfront presentation today, which only covers September and October. It could debut as soon as November, Steven Kern, SVP Program Planning & Scheduling, NBCUniversal Entertainment, indicated during a pre-upfront press call Saturday.

In November, the network plans to add sophomore comedies St. Denis Medical on Monday at 8 Pm and Happy’s Place in its old Friday 8 Pm slot.

Every Season Of 30 Rock, Ranked
Image
Pound for pound, "30 Rock" is one of the funniest TV shows ever made, and that's not hyperbole. If you've watched the show, you know for a fact that it's packed so densely with jokes that you might find yourself constantly rewinding episodes because you were laughing so hard at something that you completely missed five subsequent sight gags and throwaway lines. The show was created by Tina Fey, who, at that point, was best known for writing and acting on "Saturday Night Live," and ultimately, she and her co-showrunner Robert Carlock were encouraged to take her experience on "SNL" and turn it into the show that became "30 Rock." So, just in case you haven't watched it — or it's been a while — what's the general deal with "30 Rock?"

Well, Fey stars as Liz Lemon, the head writer of a frankly terrible-looking sketch show called "The Girly Show," or...

Netflix Pulling Its Last Two Interactive Specials – ‘Black Mirror: Bandersnatch’ & ‘Kimmy Schmidt’
Image
Netflix’s final two interactive specials are about to disappear from the platform. Notices have appeared on the What’s on Netflix site for Black Mirror: Bandersnatch and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt: Kimmy vs. the Reverend, confirming both will leave the service on May 12.

Their exit marks the end of the platform’s era of interactive specials as it shifts its focus to mobile and cloud gaming, according to the publication.

Netflix did not respond to a request for comment.

Interactive content has been slowly disappearing from the platform, since its launch with the 2017 Puss in Book. Only four interactive specials remained in late 2024, with Ranveer vs Wild with Bear Grylls and You vs. Wild removed in January of this year.

Released in December 2018, Black Mirror: Bandersnatch was written by series creator Charlie Brooker and directed by David Slade. Starring Fionn Whitehead, Will Poulter and Craig Parkinson, the interactive choose-your-own-adventure tale...

Why the groundbreaking ‘Black Mirror: Bandersnatch’ is disappearing from Netflix
Image
It's the end of the road for choose-your-own-adventure programming at Netflix, and there's no rewinding to pick another path.

On May 12, the streamer will remove Black Mirror: Bandersnatch (2018) and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt: Kimmy vs. the Reverend (2020). Both of these interactive TV specials empowered viewers to choose different paths to essentially create their own narrative.

In November 2024, a Netflix rep told The Verge that it was removing all of its choose-your-own-adventure projects, which at that time numbered 24 unique titles. As of Friday, only Bandersnatch and Kimmy vs. the Reverend remain on the company's "interactive specials" page, but not for long.

"The technology served its purpose, but is now limiting as we focus on technological efforts in other areas," Netflix spokesperson Chrissy Kelleher said last year.

Black Mirror: Bandersnatch is being removed from the Netflix streaming service
Image
The Netflix streaming service has been working to scrub interactive titles from their library – and as of right now, only two remain: Black Mirror: Bandersnatch and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt: Kimmy vs the Reverend. If you haven’t taken the opportunity to “choose your own adventure” through those titles yet, you should get to it, because they’re not safe from Netflix’s plan to remove interactive titles. They’ll be leaving the streaming service as of next Monday, May 12th. News of the removals was first reported by What’s on Netflix.

Black Mirror: Bandersnatch is tied in with the anthology series Black Mirror, created and written by Charlie Brooker, a show that just recently released its seventh season. Variety reminds us that Black Mirror: Bandersnatch, starring Fionn Whitehead and Will Poulter, is “a choose-your-own-adventure-style movie that includes 312 minutes of material (just over five hours). It’s set in 1984, when...

Tom Cruise Almost Made A Surprise Cameo In A Top Gun SNL Sketch With Val Kilmer
Image
"Top Gun" star Tom Cruise has a memorable big screen history with Val Kilmer. Not only did the two actors rise to fame in the 1980s, but they played rivals in the blockbuster air combat film that would eventually result in a sequel that gave them a heartfelt reunion. That sequel also served as a fond farewell for Kilmer, who had been suffering from throat cancer but still managed to make a wonderful appearance in "Top Gun: Maverick," where his previously cocky character Tom "Iceman" Kazansky was suffering from the same ailment as Kilmer in real life, eventually dying in the movie years before Kilmer would actually pass away in 2025.

However, Cruise and Kilmer almost had a much different "Top Gun" reunion on the small screen over two decades earlier, thanks to "Saturday Night Live."

In a recent episode of "The Lonely Island and Seth Meyers Podcast," which is a must-listen for fans of "SNL,...

Tom Cruise Missed His First-Ever ‘SNL’ Appearance By 8 Seconds
Image
Tom Cruise has performed death-defying stunts, danced around in his underwear and defiled at least one talk show host’s couch, but he’s somehow never been on Saturday Night Live.

Even though Cruise has been a massive star for more than four decades, he hasn’t hosted, or even made so much as a brief cameo in the long-running sketch series. Cruise did once show up in a “Celebrity Jeopardy” sketch, but only in the form of host Ben Stiller.

SNL’s lack of Cruise content hasn’t been for lack of trying. In Live From New York: An Uncensored History Of Saturday Night Live talent coordinator Marci Klein admitted that “in terms of desirable hosts, we of course always want to get Tom Cruise. I’m always trying to get him.”

Well, it turns out that Cruise came extremely close to making a surprise appearance on the show,...

Tina Fey Called Lorne Michaels to Make Sure Jon Hamm Wasn’t “a D***” Before Casting Him in ‘30 Rock’
Image
Tina Fey wanted some insight into what Jon Hamm was like before asking him to guest star on her sitcom 30 Rock.

In a joint conversation for Interview Magazine, in which Fey and Hamm reminisce about their careers, friendship and Hamm’s Your Friends and Neighbors series, Fey mentions calling SNL creator Lorne Michaels to ask about Hamm.

“I didn’t meet you before you hosted [SNL], and I remember calling or emailing Lorne and saying, ‘Let me know if he’s funny because we have a part coming up on 30 Rock that would be great for him.’ And also to make sure you weren’t a dick,” Fey told Hamm.

“I mean, that’s a real thing. It’s not fun to work with people that aren’t fun,” Hamm replied.

Fey added, “That’s one where you’re just like, ‘I won’t do that anymore.’ Life...

7 Jon Hamm Movies and TV Shows You Have to Watch at Least Once
Image
If 54-year-old Jon Hamm were a genre, he’d be a delicious cocktail of charm, mystery, and just the right amount of chaos to keep stuff spicey. Whether he’s mooning over in Mad Men or getting gut-bustlingly unhinged in a comedy sketch, the man’s got range.

Now, as the two-time Golden Globe award-winner gears up to star in the upcoming drama series Your Friends & Neighbors, critics are already toasting. Yep, the show hasn’t even dropped yet, but the early reviews are calling it “sharp, twisted, and peak Hamm,” which pretty much does sound like our kind of party.

So, whether you’re deep in your Hamm era or just Hamm-curious, this list’s your official starter pack. Seven must-watch movies and shows that prove Jon Hamm ain’t just a snack; he’s the whole dang charcuterie board.

Jon Hamm forgot his 2015 Emmy nomination for ‘Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’: ‘Right on! Oh, I didn’t know that — that’s cool.’
Image
To date, Jon Hamm has received a whopping 18 Emmy nominations across five different television shows, representing a significant body of work. So, it's totally understandable if he doesn't recall every single bid.

At Friday's Deadline Contenders Preview Night for the new Apple TV+ drama Your Friends and Neighbors, held at the Directors Guild of America Theater Complex, Gold Derby asked Hamm about his extensive Emmy history. Sure, he won for Mad Men in 2015, but did the actor recall also being nominated for 30 Rock, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt (2015), Fargo (2024), and The Morning Show (2024)?

Hamm correctly named all of the shows he was nominated for ... except for one. When we gave him a hint — "bunker" — his face lit up. "Oh, Kimmy Schmidt? Right on! Oh, I didn't know that — that's cool," the 54-year-old actor stated. This specific Best Comedy Guest Actor bid in 2015 came the same year in which he won his...

Tracy Morgan Wheelchaired Out of Knicks Game After Appearing to Vomit
Image
Comedian and 30 Rock star Tracy Morgan was at the center of an event at Madison Square Garden that would not have been out of place in a horror movie. As one of the New York Knicks most die-hard celebrity fans, Morgan was sitting courtside and was seen to vomit before being wheelchaired out of the arena while also dealing with a nosebleed. The illness caused a 10-minute delay of the game, as reported by CBS Sports.

It's not unusual for fans to spill things on the court, but those events usually involve food and wildly expensive beers. Coaches often ask their players to leave it all on the court, but it's deeply frowned upon for fans to do the same. Of all fluids, "bodily" ranks very high among the least desired substances on a basketball court. “We hope Tracy feels better soon and look forward to seeing him back courtside,...

Tracy Morgan Says ‘Food Poisoning’ to Blame for Vomiting at Knicks Game: ‘Thank You All for Your Concern’
Image
Comedian Tracy Morgan said food poisoning was to blame after he vomited at a New York Knicks basketball game Monday night and was taken out in a wheelchair.

“Thank you for all your concern! I’m doing ok now and doctors say it was food poisoning,” he wrote on Instagram on Tuesday, with a selfie of himself in a hospital bed. “Appreciate my Msg family for taking such good care of me and I need to shout out the crew that had to clean that up. Appreciate you!”

During the third quarter of the game between the Knicks and the Miami Heat as Madison Square Garden, Morgan was seen vomiting on the floor while sitting courtside. The game was paused for 10 minutes as employees cleaned up the vomit.

Morgan poked fun at himself, writing “More importantly, the Knicks are now 1-0 when I throw up on the court so maybe...

Tracy Morgan’s NBC Pilot Not Impacted By His Medical Emergency At Knicks Game; Cause Revealed
Image
Tracy Morgan was taken out of Madison Square Garden on a wheelchair on Monday night, his head buried in a towel, after the courtside-seated Saturday Night Live alum vomited profusely on the floor, causing a delay in New York Knicks’ game with the Miami Heat.

On Tuesday morning, Knicks super fan Morgan posted a photo from the hospital, hooked up to a monitor. “I’m doing ok now and doctors say it was food poisoning,” he wrote next to the photo, in which he gives a thumbs-up.

The incident happened as Morgan is working on his untitled NBC comedy pilot from Tina Fey, Robert Carlock and Sam Means. The project, which is filming in New York, had its table read Friday. According to sources, shooting is not scheduled to begin until later this month, so Morgan’s medical emergency has had no impact on production, and its schedule remains unchanged with producers monitoring the situation.
