August Will Be a Sad Month For ‘Ugly Betty’ Fans
Image
We can all agree that pretty much everyone couldn’t get over America Ferrera’s performance in the super-successful 2023 comedy Barbie, which, of course, earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress. But even before her involvement in the pic, many regarded her as one of Hollywood’s major talents, which in part is thanks to her role in the ABC comedy-drama series Ugly Betty. She portrayed the title character in the series that ran from September 28, 2006, to April 14, 2010, before heading to Netflix on August 1, 2023.

Now, two years after debuting on Netflix, Ugly Betty will sadly be leaving the streamer with all four seasons. According to What’s on Netflix, the comedy won’t be available to subscribers starting August 1, 2025, as it currently indicates its last day to watch as July 31, 2025. That means Netflix had a license to stream the series for twenty-four months, and between 2023 and 2024, all...

Netflix Users Take Note — Barbie’s Time On The Platform Is Running Out ( Photo Credit – Netflix )

Barbie is on her way out of Netflix this July. The wildly popular 2023 film, which pulled in over $1.4 billion globally, is getting removed from the platform’s US catalogue on the 15th. Yes! That’s right! The pink-filled blockbuster from Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach, starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, is making its exit soon as per Unilad.

What Is Barbie About?

The story follows a stereotypical Barbie (Margot Robbie) living in Barbieland, a matriarchal utopia where Barbies thrive in elite roles while Kens, especially “Beach Ken,” exist only to seek Barbie’s attention. When Barbie begins experiencing human flaws like cellulite, flat feet, and existential dread, she is advised by Weird Barbie to find the child playing with her in the real world. Barbie journeys there with a stowaway Ken.

The Live-Action How To Train Your Dragon Movie Fixed The One Issue The Director Had
Image
The great thing about being able to retell your own story is that you can fix your previous mistakes. In the case of 2025's "How to Train Your Dragon," director Dean DeBlois was able to revisit his 2010 animated classic in live-action, improving not only characters like Hiccup and Toothless but also certain plot points from the original film that never made sense to begin with.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter about his second go-around, DeBlois clarified how he could do damage control on a story that had remained untouched for 15 years. One particular example he brought up was a bit of a plot hole in the near-perfect original animated movie, in which the people of Berk deal with the fallout of Toothless bringing down the Red Death. As you may recall, the oversized Alpha swiftly turns the Vikings' ships to kindling after Stoick's (Gerard Butler) attack on the island housing the dragons' nest.

Pixar’s Biggest Bomb Barely Passes Jason Statham’s 47% Rotten Tomatoes Action Movie at the 2025 Box Office
Image
For only the second time in history, the annual box office rankings could be topped by a non-English-language film. This happened in 2020, when Demon Slayer: Mugen Train led the field amid mass global shutdowns, and it's poised to happen again this year, with the Chinese film Ne Zha 2 perched at the top of the charts. The movie has grossed a massive $2.2 billion worldwide, and it will take a big screen event of Avatar: Fire and Ash's magnitude to overtake it. No Hollywood film has been able to pass the $1 billion mark yet, but a new film recently entered the $100 million club. It's a different matter altogether that the film in question, Elio, has had a tremendously disappointing run so far.

On its 19th day of release at the global box office, Elio finally passed the $100 million milestone. The movie cost a reported $150 million to produce, and is poised...

Maybe You Can’t Separate ‘Too Much’ From Lena Dunham, But You Should Try
Image
An expat makes her way through single life in London, where her unique personal style is a frequent topic of discussion. Her work isn’t always stimulating, but does let her mix with entertaining oversharers. When she visits a bar on a pivotal night, she has a chance meeting with a sexy artist who will become very important to her. Is he ready for love? Is she? The first season of their show really puts them through dizzying joys and shattering pain — but yes, Too Much is TV’s tenderest romantic comedy since Starstruck.

Too Much’s expat — an American this time — is Jessica (Megan Stalter), a line producer working in TV commercials. After her boyfriend Zev (Michael Zegen) leaves her for knitting influencer Wendy (Emily Ratajkowski), Jessica is forced to move out of his apartment and back in with her mother, sister and nephew at her grandmother’s house on Long Island.

After 'Elio' Bombed at the Domestic Box Office, Disney Insiders Are Speaking Out About Its Chaotic Production
Image
This hasn't been the best year for Pixar. The animation studio's latest release, Elio, has failed to leave a mark at the box office, and even though critics and fans agree that the movie is worth your time – it landed an 82% score on Rotten Tomatoes from critics and a whopping 91% audience score – insiders are new revealing the chaotic circumstances in which the Disney movie was brought to life.

Last week, The Hollywood Reporter unveiled some details from Elio's early days of production, and professionals who abandoned the project revealed that one of the aspects that was cut from the story was the fact that Elio (voiced by Yonas Kibreab) was originally a queer-coded character. However, Disney executives reportedly weren't too happy with that, and the title character started to get more masculine with each revised version. Again, according to insiders, that started to happen when test screenings indicated that audiences...

'The Cat in the Hat' Animated Movie, Starring Bill Hader, Debuts First Trailer - Watch Now!
Image
The live-action The Cat in the Hat movie from 2003 was so poorly reviewed that Dr. Seuss‘ widow Audrey Geisel actually decided to never allow a live-action adaptation of any of his other books.

In the years since, all adaptations have been animated and now The Cat in the Hat is getting an animated feature film for the first time!

Doing what he does best, the Cat—voiced by Bill Hader—spreads joy to kids in his hilarious, signature and singularly irreverent way, transporting them and audiences on a fantastical journey through a world they’ve never seen before. In the film, our hero takes on his toughest assignment yet for the I.I.I.I.: to cheer Gabby and Sebastian, a pair of siblings struggling with their move to a new town. Known for taking things too far, this could be this agent of chaos’s last chance to prove himself…or lose his magical hat!

Elio Report Reveals Exactly What Went Wrong With Pixar's Colossal Box Office Flop
Image
It's unfortunate, but it doesn't look like Pixar's "Elio" will be another "Elemental" and surprise everyone with a shockingly great box office run. No, "Elio" is a flop, which sucks because the movie is actually rather fun. It's got great alien designs, an entertaining story, and a Carl Sagan quote designed that will make you quite emotional about the possibilities and power of science while also just reminding you of one of the most fascinating minds to walk this planet in the last century.

Sure, it's easy (and not unfair) to blame the marketing for the failure of "Elio" at the box office, combined with the competition from other, higher-profile films. Still, that doesn't change the fact that this simply wasn't Pixar's best. What's more, reports have surface that the movie suffered heavily behind-the-scenes, undergoing creative changes that resulted in a vastly different film hitting theaters than the one...

‘Elio’ Insiders Allege Pixar Execs Cut Queer Latino Representation, Leading to Director Adrian Molina’s Exit
Image
After its latest film “Elio” flopped at the box office on its opening weekend, Pixar is once again at the center of controversy.

Anonymous sources told The Hollywood Reporter that Pixar CEO Pete Docter opted to have “Elio” be stripped of its gay coded themes, much as was the case for “Lightyear,” “Luca,” and most recently, “Inside Out 2.” This in part led to both the exits of original director Adrian Molina and later, actress America Ferrera.

“A lot of people like to blame Disney, but the call is coming from inside the house,” a former Pixar artist told THR. “A lot of it is obeying-in-advance behavior, coming from the higher execs at Pixar. […] It was pretty clear through the production of the first version of the film that [studio leaders] were constantly sanding down these moments in the film that alluded to Elio’s sexuality of being queer.”

“Elio Just Becomes About Totally Nothing”: Massive BTS Changes Reveal Completely Different Version Of Pixar's Box Office Disappointment
Image
A new report reveals many of the creative changes that pushed Elio in a different direction. The latest Pixar movie is struggling at the box office, despite an A CinemaScore and an 83% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes. After its second weekend, the film has only grossed around $42 million domestically and $72 million worldwide against a $150 million production budget.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Elio's downfall may have started a few years ago. The film was originally directed by Adrian Molina, a co-director of 2017's Coco, who screened the film for an audience in Arizona in 2023.

Reportedly, the crowd enjoyed the film, but no one raised their hand when asked if they would pay to see it, sending warning alerts that changes needed to be made. Elio was initially portrayed as a "Queer-coded" character, but changes were made to make him more "masculine." A former Pixar artist told the outlet that these...

Pixar's 'Elio' Downplayed LGBTQ+ Elements After Creative Overhaul
Image
Pixar's latest film, Elio, has made headlines, but for all the wrong reasons. The sci-fi animated family film earned the studio's lowest opening weekend of all time with just $21 million. Despite solid reviews from critics, the film hasn't quite performed up to the Pixar standard and may not have the long legs at the box office that Elemental did back in 2023. Elio had a long road to the big screen, having been delayed a whole year, and an initial teaser trailer from 2023 that showed a different film than what audiences saw. The Hollywood Reporter has detailed an extensive account of what happened behind the scenes of Elio, and it certainly isn't good.

The report stated that Elio was initially portrayed as a queer-coded character, although the movie was never intended to be a coming-out story. Various changes made by Pixar leadership led to this being downplayed and all but removed from the final film,...

Why America Ferrera Dropped Out of 'Elio' Movie & Was Replaced By Zoe Saldana, According to Insiders
Image
America Ferrera was originally set to star in the Disney/Pixar movie Elio, but she dropped out of the project and was replaced by Zoe Saldana.

A new report has dived into the drama that happened behind-the-scenes at Disney during the making of the movie and it reveals insight into why America left the project.

America was announced to play Elio’s mom Olga when she appeared at the D23 fan event in 2022, but when Zoe‘s casting was confirmed in 2024, the role had changed to Elio’s aunt Olga.

THR reports that the character Elio “was initially portrayed as a queer-coded character, reflecting original director Adrian Molina’s identity as an openly gay filmmaker.” Disney allegedly demanded changes to the movie after an early test screening of the movie. Attendees were asked how many of them would pay to see the movie in a theater, and no one raised their hand.

‘The Cat in the Hat’ Trailer: Bill Hader Gets Animated for Dr. Seuss Adaptation
Image
Bill Hader is swapping the dark comedy of “Barry” for pure animated fun — while staying under the Warner Bros. Discovery hat.

Hader’s first project since wrapping his acclaimed HBO series in 2023 is the animated adaptation of Dr. Seuss’ “The Cat in the Hat.” Hader stars as the titular character who “takes on his toughest assignment yet for the I.I.I.I.: to cheer Gabby and Sebastian, a pair of siblings struggling with their move to a new town,” as the synopsis reads. “Known for taking things too far, this could be this agent of chaos’ last chance to prove himself…or lose his magical hat!”

Xochitl Gomez, Matt Berry, Quinta Brunson, Paula Pell, Tiago Martinez, Giancarlo Esposito, America Ferrera, Bowen Yang, and Tituss Burgess co-star in the animated film.

Alessandro Carloni and Erica Rivinoja co-write and co-direct “The Cat in the Hat.” Earlier this year, Carloni said during a Work in Progression session at Annecy,...

"Deeply Saddened" Pixar Reportedly Left Elio Queer Scenes On The Cutting Room Floor
Image
Elio has been unfortuante for Pixar, bombing drastically at the box office. Allegedly, there were concerns from Pixar insiders due to creative changes made to Elio.

Pixar insiders have spoken to The Hollywood Reporter about making the movie, and they’ve alleged that the leaders at Pixar removed Lgbtqia+ themes from the movie. According to them, the original Elio liked fashion and had photos of another boy in his room. These aspects were removed from Elio.

The Hollywood Reporter noted that "Elio was initially portrayed as a queer-coded character, reflecting original director Adrian Molina’s identity as an openly gay filmmaker."

Molina left the project and was replaced by Madeline Sharafian and Domee Shi. Molina went to work on Coco 2 – but when he stepped down, actress America Ferrera left as well, reportedly because "America was upset that there was no longer Latinx representation in the leadership." The Hollywood Reporter...

Disastrous Test Screenings And Creative Clashes: New Report Explains What Went Wrong With Pixar's Elio
Image
Pixar's Elio has an 83% Rotten Tomatoes score and 91% on the Popcornmeter, but it still bombed when it debuted on June 22 with a disastrous $20.8 million opening weekend. Elemental and Mufasa: The Lion King were similarly written off as flops. However, the Pixar movie has made only $72 million worldwide to date, so a repeat of the surprise success those movies found isn't likely.

The Hollywood Reporter (via Toonado.com) has published an in-depth article exploring what went wrong with Elio, and it appears that the movie we got was not the one the filmmakers originally intended to make.

The trade uses the example of a scene shown to the crew two years ago, which saw Elio collecting trash on the beach and turning it into homemade apparel. That included a pink tank top, which, according to multiple insiders, was part of plans to portray him as a queer-coded character (to reflect...
