Exclusive: Namrata Singh Gujral’s feature film 5 Weddings has been banned in Kuwait for the inclusion of transgender characters.

The film, which is set to open in more than 15 countries including the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Russia, India and United Kingdom, on October 26, follows the story of a journalist who travels to India to work on a story about Indian wedding ceremonies. The film also features Hijras, a sect of transgender dancers who have been an integral part of Indian wedding tradition for centuries — which is why Kuwait has decided to ban the film.

Boasting a universally acclaimed cast with Rajkummar Rao (India’s official entry to Academy Awards 2018 Newton), Nargis Fakhri (Bollywood blockbuster Rockstar), Academy Award nominee Candy Clark (American Graffiti) and Golden Globe nominee Bo Derek (10), 5 Weddings opens in cinemas worldwide on 21st September 2018.

5 Weddings is a feature film with comedy, drama and romance that showcases the vibrant ceremonies at India’s weddings, with an important sub-plot that features Hijras, a sect of transgender dancers who have been an integral part of Indian wedding tradition for centuries.

Other featured Hollywood actors include Broadway star Anneliese van der Pol (Beauty and The Beast), Mariana Paola Vicente, Robert Palmer Watkins (General Hospital), Dawn Richard (Danity Kane) and Rupak Ginn (Royal Pains).

Also starring from India are Suvinder Vicky (Chauthi Koot – Un Certain Regard Cannes 2015), Shiwani Saini (Sarbjit), Saru Maini (Dangerous Husn) and Diljott (Teshan).

This exciting film marks the second Hollywood project for both Fakhri and Rao.

Vision Films has acquired worldwide rights at the Efm to Uniglobe Entertainment’s transgender feature 5 Weddings at the European Film Market in Berlin.

Namrata Singh Gujral directed the story of a Us journalist sent to India to report on Indian weddings. Conflict arises when she investigates the sect of transgender dancers known as Hijras, only to be blocked by a government liaison officer.

Rajkummar Rao of Berlinale 2017 entry Newton also stars Bollywood actress Nargis Fakhri, Candy Clark and Bo Derek.

Vision has a Us distribution deal with Sony Pictures Home Entertainment and recently released Planterium starring Natalie Portman and Lily Rose Depp, and Una with Rooney Mara and Ben Mendelson.

Indian and international stars will join the global premiere of Indian filmmaker Namrata Singh Gujral’s breast cancer docudrama ‘1 a Minute,’ highlighting the fact that one women dies from breast cancer every 69 seconds.

The Oct 6 global premiere of the UniGlobe Entertainment film in partnership with Susan G. Komen for the Cure, in 527 theatres in the Us, followed by a rolling release across the globem will kick start Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The international roll-out will include a theatrical release.

Melissa Etheridge and her partner Tammy have split after almost nine years, according to People.com.

"Melissa and Tammy Etheridge are saddened to announce that they are now separated," a representative for the duo told the Web site. In a separate statement to the magazine, the two said, "We ask for consideration and respect for our family as we go through this difficult period."

Etheridge married Tammy (formerly Tammy Lynn Michaels), an actress who has appeared on television shows such as the WB's "Popular" and Showtime's "The L Word," in Malibu in 2003. According to the Hindustan Times, Indian-American Namrata Singh Gujral is currently producing, directing, and co-starring in 1 a Minute, a docu-drama on cancer, while she undergoes “radical cancer treatments” for invasive breast cancer. The 33-year-old actress, best known for her roles in Warner Bros’ Americanizing Shelley and Bollywood’s Kaante, hopes to spread global awareness about cancer, with a focus on global breast cancer.

Joining Gujral as co-stars in the project are fellow cancer survivors and activists Lisa Ray (who was recently diagnosed with cancer) and plays a lesbian in The World Unseen and I Can’t Think Straight), Melissa Etheridge, Olivia Newton-John, Jaclyn Smith, Diahann Carroll, Morgan Brittany and Bollywood actresses Priya Dutt and Mumtaz.

Billy and Danny Baldwin, both of whose lives have been affected by cancer, also appear in the film. Out lesbian Kelly McGillis will narrate the docu-drama, which is expected to release globally in 2010.

American Indian actress Namrata Singh Gujral of Kaante fame, in which she featured alongside Amitabh Bachchan and Sanjay Dutt, has been diagnosed with breast cancer and is undergoing chemotherapy. Bravely, the actress is working on a short movie One a Minute, to spread awareness of the disease, alongside other actresses such as Olivia Newton-John, Jaclyn Smith, Mumtaz and Priya Dutt.

Born in Dharamsala, Namrata is a graduate of the University of West Florida and for five years was Nurse Kathy in NBC's Passions. She was also the first star of Indian origin to feature on Cmt with the Country/Bollywood track Dancing in the Clouds.

Namrata, the star of Americanising Shelley, has suspended filming on her current projects whilst she undergoes treatment but is looking forward to taking the lead in two upcoming Bollywood movies - Mitsein and Himalayan Rhapsody.
