Biography

Blyde Smit is a South African Actress best known for her role as Gabby Kemp in the SABC 2 show 7de Laan from 2019 to 2021.

Blyde Smit made her television Debut at the early age of 12 years old on the Afrikaans series Erfsondes (SABC 2) where she played Little Kate (the younger version of the main actress Jana Strydom) in Season 1 and 2 (2007-2009). After matriculating from Afrikaans Hoër Meisieskool Pretoria in 2013, Blyde went on to do her Bachelor Degree in Drama at the University of Pretoria where she performed in various theatre productions. She proceeded to finish her Honours Degree in Drama Cumm Laude, specializing in Screenwriting in 2017.

Since then she has starred in various television productions such as Svetlana on Scandal (SABC 1) and Rebeca on Dead Places (Netflix).

In 2021, Blyde landed her first lead role in a Showmax Original Romantic Comedy Series called Troukoors (Wedding Fever). In the series she plays Luca Riekert, a nerdy coder who is socially awkward and battles to navigate a romantic life. She forms part of the three female leads who go through life and love together. Troukoors Season 1 aired on 13 December 2021 on Showmax and started airing on Kyknet the 16th of May 2022. Season 2 was released on the 5th of May 2022.

Blyde has recently opened a photography studio in Pretoria called Sowaar Studios and is writing her first screenplay, a South African Psychological Thriller, that will be heading to production in October 2022 in the Tankwa Karoo.
