‘Elevation’ DVD Review
Image
Stars: Anthony Mackie, Danny Boyd Jr., Maddie Hasson, Morena Baccarin | Written by John Glenn, Jacob Roman, Kenny Ryan | Directed by George Nolfi

A single father and two women venture from the safety of their homes to face monstrous creatures to save the life of a young boy.

The synopsis of Elevation doesn’t really give much away and probably with good reason as that is simply the crux of the story. Set several years after some rather odd-looking giant insect creatures invade the earth and wipe out 95% of the population, a handful of humans remain scattered across the planet (we presume although I think only the US is mentioned) and they can only survive if they live at 8000 feet. Minor spoiler, they don’t really explain the whole 8000 feet thing and why the monsters can’t climb any higher than that so if you’re someone who needs logic to...

Gerard Butler and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau's Divisive Fantasy Team-Up Is Back on Netflix
Image
Few action stars have built up as impressive a resume as Gerard Butler has over the years, but after starring in 20 years worth of action movies, it’s only natural that there’s going to be some misses. 2016 brought on the release of Gods of Egypt, the fantasy thriller in which Butler stars alongside Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Game of Thrones) and Chadwick Boseman (Black Panther). The controversial film had been absent from streaming for a few months now, but Netflix has since made it available to watch for all subscribers. Gods of Egypt was poorly received upon its release, earning “Rotten” scores of 15% from critics and 37% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes. The film also flopped at the box office, grossing only $150 million at the box office against a $140 million budget.

Gods of Egypt was met with harsh criticism upon its release for poor casting choices, particularly the whitewashing extremely present in...

Anthony Mackie’s ‘Twisted Metal’ Season 2 Earns Surprising Rotten Tomatoes Score
Image
Anthony Mackie may be the new Captain America in the MCU, but that isn’t going to stop him from burning rubber in his hit Peacock series. The first season of Twisted Metal premiered almost two years ago and was an instant hit, earning scores of 67% from critics and 93% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes. The first three episodes of Twisted Metal Season 2 debuted last week, and it earned a stunning 94% from critics but 76% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes. With nine episodes remaining, there's still plenty of time for these scores to change, especially considering the different release model. After Peacock released all episodes of Twisted Metal Season 1 at once, Season 2 will release new episodes weekly going forward. Two episodes will premiere weekly every Thursday until the final three episodes of the season debut on August 28.

Twisted Metal Season 2 picks up shortly after Season 1, with John Doe (Mackie) and Quiet (Beatriz...

CBS has finally dropped the first trailer for Sheriff Country, the much-talked-about Fire Country spinoff starring Morena Baccarin. The show will follow Baccarin’s character, Mickey Fox, who was first introduced in season 2 of Fire Country during the backdoor pilot episode “Alert the Sheriff.”

In that episode, viewers got a first taste of Mickey’s no-nonsense style as the Edgewater County Sheriff’s Sergeant. Now she’s stepping into her own series, and from the trailer alone, it’s clear she has her hands full.

In the trailer, we’re dropped straight into the action as Mickey is trying to defuse a dangerous situation by appealing to her familiarity with a criminal.

First 'Sheriff Country' Trailer Has Morena Baccarin Returning to Edgewater
Image
CBS has released the first official trailer for Sheriff Country, the highly anticipated Fire Country spinoff starring Morena Baccarin. The full trailer reintroduces viewers to Mickey as she takes charge in her hometown as Edgewater County’s newly appointed sheriff.

“I challenge you to imagine the community that we are,” Mickey says in the opening moments. “And to work together to make that happen.” Sounds ideal — until the trailer quickly dives into the mess of small-town crime, family feuds, and old secrets that Mickey must navigate. Fans of Fire Country will remember Mickey’s earlier appearances, where she butted heads with her estranged sister Sharon (played by Diane Farr) and stirred up old resentment by busting her teenage nephew Bode. ‘Sheriff Country’: ‘Fire Country’ Stars Set to Make Cameos in Morena Baccarin-Led Series
Image
CBS has a new franchise on its hands. Fire Country has been such a hit for the network, it’s no surprise that that universe is expanding. And that world is also growing beyond Morena Baccarin‘s Mickey Fox, with her father (W. Earl Brown) and others in the sheriff department (including CSI: Vegas vet Matt Lauria) joining her on Sheriff Country. It was soon after the first season that rumors started about a potential spinoff, and in its second, Fire Country introduced the character who would be leading it. Not even a month later, Sheriff Country was ordered to series. Now, it’s joining Fire Country on Fridays this fall, but as was revealed when CBS announced its premiere dates in July, there’s a schedule change for its first episode. So, when will it air? Will Mickey Fox appear on Fire Country again before then after her Season 3 appearance?...

Masters Of The Universe Star Alison Brie Suggests Live-Action Movie May Be Just As Campy As '80s Cartoon
Image
Last year, we got word that Amazon MGM and Mattel's live-action Masters of the Universe reboot had added another major cast member, with Alison Brie set to take on the role of the villainous Evil-Lyn.

As her name suggests, Evil-Lyn is a wicked and powerful sorceress who serves as Skeletor's second-in-command. Lyn was played by Meg Foster in the previous live-action movie, and was voiced by Game of Thrones alum Lena Headey in Netflix's Masters of the Universe: Revelation animated series, which added some new dimensions to the character.

Brie has some experience playing a cartoonishly evil villain thanks to her Glow character's wrestling persona, Zoya "the Destroya."

While promoting her new horror movie, Together, during an interview with Collider, Brie was asked about the perception that this take on Motu would be more serious in tone than the classic '80s animated series, and responded with the following.

Jack Nicholson and Michael Keaton in Batman (1989)
Alison Brie clears up rumors about the upcoming Masters of the Universe movie
Jack Nicholson and Michael Keaton in Batman (1989)
When it comes to the interpretation of a superhero character, some different examples to look at would be the Batman franchise. The Caped Crusader has gone through different versions in live-action — which range from the campy Adam West show to the Tim Burton gothic films, to the Joel Schumacher flamboyant camp, to the animated series’ film noir, to the Christopher Nolan serious action take, to Matt Reeves’ hyper noir. While some details have been revealed about the upcoming Masters of the Universe movie, fans anticipating the film are awaiting the approach that Travis Knight is taking for the material.

The story taking place on Earth (although done in the Dolph Lundgren version) could lend itself to either a humorous element or a more adventurous element, or even both. However, Deadline is reporting that Alison Brie, who co-stars in the movie with Nicholas Galitzine, responds to rumors that the film would take a serious tone.

Alison Brie addresses serious rumors for Masters of the Universe

Alison Brie Teases ‘Masters Of The Universe’ & Clears Up Misconception: “I Don’t Think They Know As Much As They Think They Know”

Alison Brie is one of the stars of Masters of the Universe and is teasing the upcoming superhero film.

The Amazon MGM Studios film is based on Mattel’s franchise of the same name, and there have been numerous rumors around the project.

Big Brother Spoilers: Veto Chaos Forces Lauren’s Hand — Here’s Who’s Nominated Now
Image
Has anyone ever been as out of their element as Head of Household as Big Brother Season 27’s Lauren Domingue?

During Sunday’s episode, Lauren was shown saying she “had” to win the Hoh competition, which is a far cry from what she said on the Big Brother Live Feeds over the weekend.

Did anyone else feel like all of her diary room segments were scripted? I mean, at least make us believe there’s some validity to what you’re saying.

(CBS/Screenshot)

At one point, Big Brother was a social experiment. Nowadays, it’s more about entertainment, and I still struggle with which I prefer.

When the latest episode concluded, Lauren nominated Keanu, Kelley, and Will for eviction.

(Sara Mally ©2025 CBS Broadcasting, Inc)

Keanu was an easy pick because he’s been running his mouth without much care long-term in the game, so no one wants to work with him.

The Only Thing Morena Baccarin Didn't Like About 'Deadpool & Wolverine'
Image
Morena Baccarin, the actor known for her role as Deadpool's romantic partner Vanessa in the superhero franchise, is one of the few characters to appear throughout the entire series. While her character was essential to the story in the first film, Vanessa is only featured in a couple of scenes of Deadpool & Wolverine, the most recent movie in the franchise. Baccarin has addressed this and shares that she was also disappointed at how short her screen time was. It definitely didn't reflect what her character's journey deserved.

Per Cinema Blend, Baccarin was on the podcast Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum, where she spoke about her career, the CBS spin-off Sheriff Country, and reprising her role of Vanessa in Deadpool & Wolverine. The character, who is supposed to become the mutant Copycat at some point according to the comics, wasn't a huge part of the film after she and Wade...

Masters Of The Universe Title Reveal Video Hypes Up The Live-Action He-man Reboot
Image
We've had a couple of official shots of Nicholas Galitzine's He-Man from the new Masters of the Universe movie, and caught sight of him wearing some surprisingly normal clothes on the remake's set. Now, the logo has just been officially revealed (via Toonado.com).

Accompanied by an epic piece of music, the title reveal doesn't tell us much about what to expect, but this hopefully means we're getting a proper first look sooner rather than later.

Shooting recently wrapped on the movie that will play out on both Eternia and Earth. We're expecting this one to be very VFX-heavy, particularly when it comes to Skeletor, a character fans have high expectations for in this newest take on the property.

Whether Bumblebee director Travis Knight can do right by Eternia's greatest warrior remains to be seen. The cast will be led by Galitzine (The Idea of You) as He-Man and...

Amazon MGM Studios tease logo and main theme of Masters of the Universe
Travis Knight in ParaNorman (2012)
When doing press for Bumblebee, director Travis Knight professed to being a huge fan of the original G1 Transformers cartoon from the 80s. His fandom would come through with that movie as the designs and characters felt more in-tune with the source material than Bay’s versions. Purists of the franchise cited his vision as more faithful, and if that’s any indication, Masters of the Universe could be given the same care by Knight as the original Filmation animated series came from that same era.

Amazon MGM Studios looks to be playing their cards close to the chest as we are getting small reveals a little at a time. Nicholas Galitzine, who portrays He-Man, previously teased his look as the Prince of Eternia in an Instagram photo. Now, Amazon MGM releases a “Title Reveal,” which is a short video of the new logo, in different languages, and set to...

By the Power of Grayskull! The ‘Masters of the Universe’ Movie Just Got a Heroic New Update
Image
They may not be fabulous secret powers, but Amazon MGM Studios has revealed the new title treatment for their upcoming Masters of the Universe movie. The newly released video features the logo for the upcoming film, which, like its 1987 predecessor, will simply be called Masters of the Universe. The logo takes its design cues from the original logo for the franchise, which first graced toy packaging, TV screens, and comic books back in 1982.

The clip also features a music sting derived from the 1982 cartoon's theme song, albeit in a considerably more lush and orchestrated form. It also indicates a worldwide release, presenting the logo in a variety of different languages. The franchise has always been a hit around the globe; in fact, several of the final toys from the waning days of the original action figure line were only available in the Italian market. Those days are long since gone,...

Firefly Star Morena Baccarin Talks Potential Firefly Reboot, Says 'Part of Me Would Be Excited to Revisit That World'
Image
Fireflystar and Hollywood icon Morena Baccarin says part of her "would be so excited" to revisit Firefly in a follow-up series.

Per Bleeding Cool, Baccarin responded to the question whether a Firefly/Serenity reunion series might come into form some time in the near future, saying, "There's always talk. There's always people asking about it." Baccarin continued, "I'll put it this way. Like, is there going to be a 'Firefly' reboot with all of us in it? Live action? I seriously doubt it."

"You know, that's a lot of different careers and different people that you have to negotiate with and make work and all that, you know? Schedules and whatnot. Could there be like a comic book, a thing or what? Maybe. I don't know," Baccarin explained. "Part of me would be excited to revisit that world, and part of me is also a little bit like,...

Sheriff Country Gets Early Full Season Pickup as Morena Baccarin Details Crossover Challenges
Image
CBS is betting big on the upcoming Fire Country spinoff, Sheriff Country.

While most new broadcast series in recent years start with 10-13 episode orders, the Morena Baccarin-fronted offshoot is beginning with a full season order.

During an appearance on the Tuesday, July 22 episode of Michael Rosenbaum’s Inside of You podcast, Morena opened up about her casting on the show.

(Hugh Tull/CBS)

In doing so, she dished that Sheriff Country has a 20-episode order.

The news is somewhat surprising, but when you consider that this show snagged a series order over a year ago, CBS likely knows enough about it to believe it can be nurtured into a hit.

Fire Country has flamed out quite a bit, and with a cast shake-up on the horizon, the hope is that the overall franchise will remain viable for the years to come.

Crossovers May Be Out of the Question...

Morena Baccarin Explains 1 Sheriff Country Decision That Makes Fire Country Crossovers Difficult
Image
One thing might make Sheriff Country and Fire Country crossover episodes more difficult when both TV shows set in the fictional town of Edgewater release on CBS in Fall 2025. During an episode of Michael Rosenbaum’s Inside of You, Morena Baccarin revealed the reason behind Sheriff Country filming in Toronto instead of Vancouver, where Fire Country is filmed.

The challenge stemmed from her initial inability to take on the role of Sheriff Mickey Fox due to her family living in New York City. Unfortunately, the different locations make it more difficult for Fire Country and Sheriff Country to have frequent crossover episodes.

Read Baccarin’s words below:

“I said to them, ‘This is a no-brainer for me, but I cannot shoot in Vancouver.' There’s, like, no way that my family survives, with three kids in New York City. [There’s no way] that this could work. [...] I was shocked, because you know how these negotiations go.

‘Sheriff Country’ Star Confirms Episode Count for Highly-Anticipated ‘Fire Country’ Spin-Off
Image
As pretty much everyone prepares for the return of the explosive procedural, Fire Country, there’s also that fervent anticipation for its first spin-off, Sheriff Country. While the former is set to make a comeback this fall, the latter airs for the first time on Friday, October 17, with Morena Baccarin in the lead. Fans may agree that a lot has already been revealed about the new show, which is being filmed in Toronto. However, Baccarin has one more important detail to share ahead of its premiere.

Speaking as a guest on the July 22 episode of Michael Rosenbaum’s Inside of You podcast Baccarin revealed the episode count for her new show, which she is “cautiously optimistic” about. The actress, who hasn’t done network TV projects since her involvement in Fox’s superhero series Gotham, said Sheriff Country’s debut run will consist of twenty episodes, which, according to her,...

"It's Really Unfortunate": Morena Baccarin Discusses Her Deadpool & Wolverine Role And Its One Downside
Image
Morena Baccarin has discussed her role in Marvel's Deadpool & Wolverine, outlining its only true downside. Deadpool & Wolverine's Marvel cameos were a big selling point of the film, given its new MCU setting. This meant that, by the time of Deadpool & Wolverine's ending, some of the characters from its two predecessors appeared in smaller roles.

One such character was Baccarin's Vanessa, the girlfriend of Wade Wilson, with the actor commenting on her experience on the Inside of You podcast. Baccarin insisted that her experience on Deadpool & Wolverine was "good" and "short and sweet," and that she liked being able to meet new actors like Hugh Jackman.

Why Sheriff Country Is Filming 2,100 Miles Away From Fire Country — Plus, Episode Count Confirmed
Image
Back in April, Fire Country front man Max Thieriot confirmed for TVLine that the CBS hit’s first spinoff, Sheriff Country, would be filming in Toronto — more than 2,000 miles east of Vancouver, where Fire Country‘s own production is based.

As such, any crossovers between the two shows, which will air back-to-back on Friday night this fall, “will be challenging,” Thieriot admitted, but “they are still something we plan to do.”

The star of the Marvel film also had another endeavor released in the past year, which is getting a second life on streaming. The dystopian sci-fi flick, Elevation, was released in 2024, and though it didn’t receive a lot of fanfare when it was first released, it is now getting the attention it deserves. Image
Denzel Washington will always be known for his work in The Equalizer franchise, which was spun off into a TV show, but long before he ever played Robert McCall, he starred alongside an Equalizer TV star in a serial killer thriller dominating streaming charts. Washington stars alongside Queen Latifah and Angelina Jolie in The Bone Collector, the 1999 film following a quadriplegic ex-homicide detective and his partners who try to hunt down a serial killer terrorizing New York. The Bone Collector is currently streaming on Prime Video in America and on Rakuten TV globally, where it’s one of the most popular movies in Lithuania among other countries. The film earned 30% from critics and 63% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, and it grossed $151 million at the box office against a $73 million budget.

A Marvel Actor Had Two Failed Attempts At Getting A Deadpool Cameo
Image
At the climax of Shawn Levy's 2024 ultra-hit "Deadpool & Wolverine," a thriller centered on the multiverse, a dimensional rift opens up and hundreds of parallel universe versions of Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) spill out. Deadpool and his co-star Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) are astonished at the variety of Deadpool variants from across hundreds of dimensions. One Deadpool is a baby. Another is a bandito. One is a comely lady. One of them is Welsh, and is played by Wrexham AFC player Paul Mullin.

Weirdly, one of the Deadpools is a living skull with eyeballs -- and a few stray vertebrae -- that flies around with the aid of a propeller beanie. The severed head is credited as Headpool and voiced by Nathan Fillion, a nerd-friendly actor of the highest caliber. Fillion has appeared in geek favorites like "Firefly," "Slither," and "Super." He voiced Green Lantern in several DC Comics animated movies,...

This 'Captain America' Star's, 46, Critically Panned Sci-Fi Film Is a Streaming Hit
Image
People with an Amazon Prime Video subscription can catch one film that is being "elevated" on the global streaming platform. Vertical's Elevation, the 2024 post-apocalyptic sci-fi film led by Captain America: Brave New World star Anthony Mackie, is currently sitting in the top 10 on Prime Video's streaming charts. While the film itself did not get great reviews, the sci-fi actioner is clearly making waves for people at home.

As of this article's publication, Elevation is currently sitting in the number three spot on Prime Video's Top 10 films chart globally, according to FlixPatrol. It is behind two other action films: Heads of State, starring Idris Elba and John Cena as politicians-turned-action heroes, and The Accountant 2, a thriller starring Ben Affleck and Jon Bernthal. The high rankings for Elevation is good news for a film that underperformed at the box office, grossing less than $4 million on a budget of about $18 million.

Image
Nathan Fillion may be starring as Guy Gardner in James Gunn's new Superman movie, but he's no stranger to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The actor recently talked about a deleted role in Deadpool and how it led to a larger presence in the MCU.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Fillion mentioned his long-running history with Marvel and friendship with Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds. "I was actually in the first Deadpool. My scene got cut out," Fillion said. "You'll have to remember I was filming Castle at the time. It had to be a very small part, and I requested that I be unrecognizable." His character can still be seen in the bonus features of Deadpool, with Fillion playing the towel guy at the strip club where Vanessa (Morena Baccarin) works.
