Sliff bows down to the King — Kong, that is — with a double bill of “Long Live the King” and the 1933 classic that introduced the giant gorilla to the awestruck world at this year’s St. Louis International Film Festival. The event takes place at Webster University’s Moore Auditorium on Sunday November 6th beginning at 6pm.

First up will be the documentary Long Live The King, which explores the enduring fascination with one of the biggest stars in Hollywood history: the mighty King Kong.

Science Fiction and Horror is the backbone of Famous Monsters. However, without the steadfast passion of fans these modern mythologies and the people behind them would have been long forgotten. After all, it was the very passion of Forrest J. Ackerman that allowed generations of fans to come together and share their own stories and passions about the various genres that make up the world FM inhabits.

One such storyteller is artist Robert Aragon, who for over twenty years has been creating and adding to the rich tradition of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror. Now, Robert’s wonderful artwork comes together for the first time to create a card set that involves all of the silver screen favorites. The base set includes 72 cards. There is an upcoming documentary from Benevolent Monster Productions on two true treasures of the horror genre. Beast Wishes: The Fantastic World of Bob and Kathy Burns is a look at this couple who have dedicated so much to helping creative people become master F/X artists.

The film premieres on April 12th, 2012, 7:30 pm at the Arclight Theater in Hollywood. A Q&A follows the screening with the cast and crew, hosted by actor/comedian Dana Gould. Tickets for this event are now available exclusively at the Creature Features website.

If you're going to be near the Arclight on April 12th, be sure to check out this great event. However, if you can't make that one, there will also be Beast Wishes presentations and screenings at Monsterpalooza in Burbank, CA on April 13-15, and WonderFest in Louisville, Ky on May 26-27.

This week, Universal Studios Hollywood welcomed King Kong onto the back lot with a new attraction that will become a mainstay of the Tram Tour. The red carpet was rolled out. Celebrities were in attendance - well, mostly television but I did spy Christopher Lloyd and Kevin Smith weaving through the 500 people who were invited to Universal's world premiere of King Kong 360 3D . Bob and Kathy Burns were also in attendance, lugging the original armature from the 1933 film. The studio even had some employees dressed up like tribal members from Skull Island, incessantly pounding away on drums as press and industry folk prepared to hop on the Tram and see what all of the buzz was about. When was the last time Halloween came five times in one month? It’s been happening this October thanks to Bob Burns, monster kid fandom’s legendary “gift that keeps on giving”—and it has only taken him 42 years to get it all together! At the Bob Burns’ Hollywood Halloween website, a two-hour-plus documentary telling the story of Bob and Kathy Burns’ live Halloween shows has been serialized; the first of the five parts became available on October 5, and the rest are being spaced throughout the month.

Any horror fan, young or old, who’s in it for the scare-making arts, crafts and monster makers, Must experience Wonderfest. I flew over the cool greenery and picturesque graveyards of Louisville, Kentucky to attend the first Con I’ve been to without Uncle Forry by my side. While most travelers rushed to the baggage claim to pick up luggage and trot off to watch horses run some derby, I was there for the monsters!

In its 20th year, Wonderfest is a gathering place for modelers. Make that “Super-modelers.” Builders, sculptors, painters, collectors, you name it!
