Kelly Morris bio:
Kelly Morris is a Vancouver based Canadian filmmaker and television creator with an extensive body of work in the documentary and dramatic genres. His work has appeared on Canadian, U.S., and International screens, and his credits include editor, director, producer, writer and cinematographer.
His film-making career began while attending Simon Fraser University, when he travelled to war-torn El Salvador to direct a documentary about the country's student movement. Following his passion for documentary story-telling, he moved to Toronto to co-create a feature documentary, Sex: the Annabel Chong Story, that was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize in Documentary at the Sundance Film Festival. In the years following, he has explored documentary genres including docuseries, natural history, true crime, investigative journalism with the CBC's "the fifth estate", and long format shows with the CBC'S documentary unit. In 2007, he returned to Vancouver, where he has taken the role of lead editor, director and shooter, on multiple series which include Jetstream, Highway Thru Hell, Saw Dogs, Polar Bear Town, High Arctic Haulers and Jade Fever.
Kelly served as President of the Canadian Cinema Editors from 2014-2018. His vision was to unite Canadian cinema and television editors, to provide a venue for the enhancement of their craft and to showcase their talents on the international stage. His efforts led to the creation of a bilingual association.
Shows he has worked on have received awards and nominations including the duPont-Columbia University Award for Broadcast Journalism, Gemini and CCE Awards for Best Picture Editing, Canadian Association of Journalist Awards, Best Short Film at the Viscera and Vancouver International Women in Film Festivals, Canadian Screen Awards for Best Nature Documentary, the Queens World Special Award for Social Justice, and Best Editing at the Chicago Independent Film Critic's Awards.
