ITV Unveils First Looks At ‘Karen Pirie’ Season 2

Karen Pirie, ITV’s latest drama from Malpractice and Line of Duty maker World Productions, is coming back on June 21. Above and below are first-look images at the returning cop drama, which stars Lauren Lyle as Detective Inspector Karen Pirie. Her latest case, which runs to three two-hour episodes, is based on author Val McDermid’s book ‘A Darker Domain’ and adapted by Emer Kenny. The plot sees the newly-promoted Di assigned an infamous unsolved case that puts her under intense scrutiny. Chris Jenks, Zach Wyatt, Steve John Shepherd (Harry Potter), Kenny (The Curse) and Rakhee Thakrar (Wonka) return, with Saskia Ashdown (Six Four), James Cosmo (Braveheart), Frances Tomelty (Unforgotten) and John Michie (Holby City) joining the cast. Season 1 averaged nearly 6 million viewers back in 2022. In the U.S.

Exclusive: UK independent film Tramp has secured a theatrical distribution deal with China Film Group.

The film is set for theatrical release in China towards the end of this year or early-2026, with production company Emc Productions adding that they are also exploring opportunities for the film to be available on Chinese streaming platforms.

Tramp is a sports drama that explores the worlds of mixed marital arts (Mma) and motherhood. Loosely inspired by real athletes, the film follows a British-Polish fighter whose meteoric rise is derailed by an unexpected pregnancy.

Produced by London-based Emc Productions, the film stars Izabella Malewska (Cold Feet, Holby City) and Alessandro Babalola (Top Boy, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare), and is shot by Tristan Chenais (Rogue Agent, Dust to Dreams).

Tramp is the debut feature from Philip James McGoldrick.

Platform game Astro Bot led the winners of the 2025 BAFTA Games Awards, which were handed out in London on Tuesday evening, earning five honors, including for best game of the year. The psychological horror game Still Wakes the Deep received three gaming BAFTAs, including two performance honors.

Action-adventure Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II had led the pack with 11 nominations, ahead of Astro Bot and Still Wakes the Deep with six each, with the likes of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, Lego Horizon Adventures, and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth also earning nods. All contenders for the honors were released between Nov. 25, 2023, and Nov. 15, 2024.

After the disappointment for horror fans at The Game Awards this year, horror fans got their redemption in short order with The Horror Game Awards 2024. And unlike TGAs, Silent Hill 2 wasn’t shut out. On the contrary, Bloober Team’s remake of Konami’s classic took home Game of the Year honours, along with three other awards.

In addition to Game of the Year, Silent Hill 2 earned awards for Best Performance (Luke Roberts as James Sunderland), Best Soundtrack (Akira Yamaoka) and Best Survival Horror Game. And while Silent Hill 2-related, but technically not, Masahiro Ito won the Lifetime Achievement Award for his career’s work.

Meanwhile, Wrong Organ’s Mouthwashing and The Chinese Room’s Still Wakes The Deep were the other multiple award winners of the show. Mouthwashing took home Best Narrative and the Players’ Choice Award, while Still Wakes The Deep won awards for Technical Achievement and Best Indie Horror.

Astro Bot won four awards, including game of the year, at The Game Awards on Thursday night. Astro Bot also walked away with the awards for best game direction, best action/adventure game and best family game.

The 2024 Game Awards are in the books and a tiny little robot has come out on top of the big awards show.

Hosted by gaming industry star Geoff Keighley out of the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, the event covered 29 competitive categories, including Game of the Year. The games that were up for that top honor include “Astro Bot” (which took home the prize), “Balatro,” “Black Myth: Wukong,” “Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree,” “Final Fantasy VII Rebirth,” and “Metaphor: ReFantazio.”

The ceremony will be streaming live everywhere from the Peacock Theater on Thursday, December 12, with the pre-show kicking off at 7:30 p.m. Et and the main ceremony beginning at 8 p.m. Et.

Leading the pack is the popular Japanese RPG adventure series Final Fantasy VII Rebirth with a total number of seven nominations. Following the critical success of Rebirth, released earlier this year in February, the third and final game in the Final Fantasy VII remake trilogy is officially in active development. The difference is that one of these titles was essentially a straight port of a game from 2004, and the other is a brand new 2024 release that is only available on current-gen platforms.

From reading that opening paragraph, you may be led to believe that I am going to spend the rest of this review bashing Outcast: A New Beginning for its outdated physics, and its sub-par character models, but in fact the opposite is true. Playing through this game feels like a love letter to a bygone era; the mid-tier.

Game Theory Films has revealed an official trailer for an unique indie drama titled Seagrass, from filmmaker Meredith Hama-Brown making her feature directorial debut. This Canadian production originally premiered at the Toronto Film Festival last year, and will open in both Canadian and US art house cinemas later this month. The film was the TIFF Fipresci prize winner, and a TIFF Top Ten pick. Set a decade or so in the past, Seagrass follows a Japanese-Canadian woman grappling with the death of her mother as she brings her family to a retreat. When her relationship with her husband begins to affect the children's emotional security, the family is forever changed. The film stars Ally Maki as Judith, Luke Roberts, Chris Pang, Sarah Gadon, Nyha Huang Breitkreuz, and Remy Marthaller. This film has some really strong, grainy cinematography in it - with some shots better than others.

Meredith Hama-Brown’s feature debut “Seagrass,” starring Ally Maki, will debut in U.S. theaters on Feb. 22, beginning with special screenings with the cast and director.

Q&a’s will be held at New York’s Roxy Cinema and Los Angeles’ Laemmle Royal on Feb. 22 and Las Vegas’ Regal Theatre on Feb. 23. U.K. independent production company Shot of Tea has revealed a charismatic cast for romantic comedy feature “Everything and the Universe.”

The film stars E.J. Bonilla (“The Old Man”), Nicolette Pearse (“Kim’s Convenience”), Chelsea Gilligan (“Mid-Century) and Luke Roberts (“Guillermo Del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities”). It is directed by Sarah Scarlett Downing, her first feature film, following her web series “Cleansed,” co-written and co-directed with Flora Birnbaum, which was nominated for the grand jury award at SXSW in 2018.

In the film, skeptical, sexually fluid scientist, Jane Kinney (Pearse) and believer in fate, Henry Devine (Bonilla) meet on their way to the wedding of their toxically magnetic friend Sam (Gilligan) and closeted professor of astrophysics Brian (Roberts). Guillermo del Toro's "Cabinet of Curiosities" is a collection of many wonders. The new spooky anthology presented by the famed filmmaker has a little bit of everything, from eldritch terrors to giant rats to malevolent moisturizers. It also has a clear standout story in David Prior's "The Autopsy," which is by far the most viscerally scary entry in the show's eight-episode first season.

If you haven't yet caught up on "Cabinet of Curiosities," which is wrapping up its four-night run on Netflix, be warned that we're about to get into the gory details of "The Autopsy" here. “Dampyr,” an ambitious live-action movie adaptation of the eponymous cult fantasy franchise from Italy’s independent publisher Sergio Bonelli is launching Oct. 28 in Italian cinemas and opening Lucca Comics & Games, the unique event dedicated to cosplay and comics held in the medieval Tuscan town of Lucca.

Based on the first two comics in the “Dampyr” series, which runs to 300 issues, this 15 million English-language action thriller marks the first feature from the Bonelli Cinematic Universe, which Lucca chief Emanuele Vietina describes as “Italy’s Marvel.” Watch exclusive international clip, above.

Set during the Balkan wars of the early 1990s, the series follows Harlan, who is haunted by nightmares as he wanders the countryside making money pretending to be a Dampyr – half human, half vampire – ridding villages of what residents believe are evil monsters. When summoned by soldiers who are under attack by real vampires, Harlan finds out the truth: he is a real Dampyr.

The “Dampyr” comics were created by Mauro Boselli and Maurizio Colombo and written by Giovanni Masi, Alberto Ostini, and Mauro Uzzeo.

In the movie Wade Briggs (“Please Like Me”) plays Harlan, the Dampyr; Stuart Martin (“Jamestown) is Emil Kurjak, a former soldier who is Harlan’s sidekick; and Frida Frida Gustavsson (“Arne Dahl”) plays Tesla, a vampire who is Harlan’s partner.

The cast also includes Dvid Morrissey (“Good Omens”) as Gorka, Sebastian Croft (“Game of Thrones”) as Yuri, and Luke Roberts (“300: Rise of an Empire”) as Draka.

“Dampyr,” which was shot in various locations in Romania, is helmed by first-timer Riccardo Chemello, who cut his teeth directing commercials for, among others, Red Bull, Disney, and Armani.

A seasoned crew includes Giorgio Gregorini, who won the Oscar for Best Achievement in Makeup and Hairstyling for “Suicide Squad,” Vladimir Furdik (”Skyfall”) as fight choreographer, Lubomir Misak (“Game of Thrones”) as stunt coordinator, and Giovanni Casalnuovo (“Wanted”) as costume designer.
