Exclusive: We hear that Evil Doghouse Studios has secured the rights to the popular Norwegian book series about eco-terrorist Rino Gulliksen written by author Lars Lenth.

Norwegian director Geir Henning Hopland and screenwriter Rolf-Magne Golten Andersen are attached to the project, which is currently in development as a scripted series.

Lenth’s book series follows lawyer Leonard Vangen and the misanthropic muscle-for-hire, Rino Gulliksen, as the two find themselves unlikely allies in a darkly comedic eco-thriller. The optioned books include the titles The Norwegian Patient (2011), The Vega Brothers (2015), Men Who Hate Wolves (2017), and Gimme Shelter (2020). The book series has not yet been released in the United States.

“I have been a fan of Lenth’s work for many years,” said Evil Doghouse founder and CEO Egil Ødegård. “With each book in the series he has continued to craft a sardonically inventive tale dealing...

Hat Trick Int’l Picks Up ‘Magnus’, Indie’s First Foreign Series Comes From ‘Lilyhammer’ Producers — MipTV
Hat Trick International has picked up worldwide rights to off-beat Norwegian comedy drama Magnus, the UK indie’s first foreign language series, in another sign of the growing global appeal of foreign-language shows.

Made by Viafilm, producers of international dramas Norsemen and Lilyhammer, the title is currently playing in competition at Canneseries. Creator is Vidar Magnussen (Side by Side) and it was commissioned by Christina Rezk-Resar, Head of Comedy for Nrk. Two versions of the 6 x 30’ series were shot both in Norwegian and English.

The Norway-set sci-fi crime and comedy thriller follows Magnus (played by Magnussen), an idiotic genius former detective who tries to solve a murder rooted in Norse mythology. He teams up with a suicidal police partner (Pål Rønning) and a scrawny young neighbour and the three outcasts embark on an adventure that gets increasingly strange as the story unfolds. Director is Lilyhammer’s Geir Henning Hopland.

Netflix to Unveil New German, Norwegian Original Series at Berlin (Exclusive)
Netflix is set to unveil three new genre-spanning original series in Berlin on Wednesday.

The U.S. streaming giant’s latest slate includes showrunner-director Christian Ditter’s fast-paced German thriller “Biohackers” and Norwegian horror series “Bloodride,” from writer-director Kjetil Indregard (“Maniac”).

Netflix will also officially announce “Unorthodox” from “Deutschland 83” showrunner Anna Winger, which Variety reported Tuesday.

Produced by Uli Putz and Jakob Claussen of Munich-based Claussen+Putz Filmproduktion, “Biohackers” follows medical student Mia, who discovers the use of highly advanced bio-hacking technology in her university town. When a groundbreaking discovery falls into the wrong hands, she has to decide which side she is on and how far she is willing to go to find out the truth.

“Bloodride,” produced by Oslo-based Monster Scripted, is described as a tongue-in-cheek horror anthology series, with six stories set in their own realistic yet strange universes. Atle Knudsen and Geir Henning Hopland will also direct along with Indregard.
