The Last Laugh (1924)
JoBlo TV roundup: Check out the free horror movies we shared this week! Mummy Reborn, The Last Laugh, and more
The Last Laugh (1924)
Last month, JoBlo Media and Octane Multimedia teamed up to launch a new YouTube channel named JoBlo TV, which hosts multiple feature films to watch for free throughout the week. The genres we’ll be focusing on at JoBlo TV are Action, Horror, Sci-Fi, Fantasy, and Thrillers – but for the month of October, we’re celebrating Halloween all month long with our JoBlotober event. It’s all horror all the time, and the latest batch of movies on the channel featured mummies, cults, and slashers.

The movies that have been released on JoBlo TV over the last week are Mummy Reborn (you can guess what sort of horror that one deals with), the supernatural cult horror film Blood Myth, and the slasher The Last Laugh.

Directed by Dan Allen, who also crafted the screenplay with Scott Chambers, Mummy Reborn has the following synopsis: When a group of teens in financial...

Iconic TV Actor Patrick Fabian Reveals His Favorite Guest Role
Image
We spoke to Patrick Fabian amid the release of The Way We Speak, an acclaimed new film that showcases Fabian's leading-man chops and reminds us of his vast talents. If Fabian looks familiar, that's not just because of his recent, awards-caliber turn across six seasons of AMC's hit series Better Call Saul. He's guest-starred on just about every hit show you've binged in the past couple of decades, from The Morning Show to Grey's Anatomy, which begs the question: Which has been his favorite guest-starring appearance out of the long list?

"Well, I have to be honest with my response. I've been asked that question before, and the first thing that comes to my mind is Xena: Warrior Princess, played by Lucy Lawless," Fabian tells MovieWeb. "It was a wonderful gig. I got flown down to New Zealand, I got to wear leather chaps, and a pirate shirt.

Better Call Saul Star Says Howard Hamlin Is the Only Character Who's 'Constant'
Image
We spoke with veteran TV actor Patrick Fabian leading up to the release of The Way We Speak, which is being released to the masses this week. Fabian plays a smooth-talking intellectual named Simon, who might remind Better Call Saul fans of Fabian's acclaimed turn as Howard Hamlin from the award-winning series. Now that Better Call Saul is finally in the can, there have been postmortem debates about whether Howard was, in fact, a decent human being at the end of the day.

"I think you can make a quick case, over the six seasons of that show, that Howard's the only one who is actually constant in his character and what he's trying to do, which is basically just maintain a law firm," Fabian tells MovieWeb. "It's those crazy McGill brothers and other characters that sort of, you know, send [Howard] in a spiral, which is unfortunate."

Fabian continues, drawing...

The Way We Speak Review: Patrick Fabian Shines as an Awful Smooth Talker
Image
Rock 'n' roll isn't dead, and neither are good ol' fashioned debates. The latest presidential one may have been a bust and led to our current Head of State withdrawing from the upcoming election, but in general, a juicy back-and-forth about hot topics like politics or, say, religion have always reliably stirred the pot in any setting. If anything, 'debate bro' culture has gone a bit too far, making social media even more toxic than before. On the big screen, though, debates can make for gripping drama. With a dashing and smooth-talking gent like Patrick Fabian representing one-half of your debate, you're also off to a solid start.

The Better Call Saul star leads a gripping new drama film that flies by in its tight 87-minute runtime and feels like something that will soon be made available on in-flight entertainment systems but that's no slight on The Way We Speak,...

Intriguing Trailer for Indie Film 'The Way We Speak' w/ Patrick Fabian
Image
"Tide's coming in..." Gravitas has revealed an official trailer for an indie drama titled The Way We Speak, marking the feature directorial debut of indie filmmaker Ian Ebright. It premiered at the 2024 Florida Film Festival a few months ago, also screening at the RiverRun and Julien Dubuque Film Festivals. The Way We Speak is a modern cautionary tale. The synopsis is rather vague: An up-and-coming writer refuses to leave the spotlight when his best friend and debate opponent suffers cardiac arrest, leading to an obsession over his new opponent. Described in reviews as "a rich character study that centers around obsession, insecurity, and jealousy." Patrick Fabian stars as Simon, along with Diana Coconubo, Kailey Rhodes, Ayanna Berkshire, Lowell Deo, Ricco Distefano, and Reed Diamond. This very moody, nearly dialogue-free trailer is a clever cover-up for the film's religious undercurrents - it's about how an atheist becomes insecure about his young,...

‘Better Call Saul’s Patrick Fabian Joins ‘The Way We Speak’; Cinedigm Takes ‘The Ancestral’; SXSW Trailer For ‘Until Branches Bend,’ Clips For ‘Citizen Sleuth’ And ‘Peak Season’ – Film Briefs
Image
Exclusive: Following six seasons as Howard Hamlin on AMC’s megahit Better Call Saul, Patrick Fabian has signed on to lead the indie The Way We Speak from writer-director Ian Ebright (From the Sky).

Billed as an allegory about America’s fractured politics and culture, the film follows Simon (Fabian), an up-and-coming commentator whose world is turned upside down when his best friend and debate opponent suffers a fatal heart attack. Simon refuses to leave the spotlight at an annual thought-leader summit, leading to an obsession with his new opponent and a growing rift with his ailing wife, Claire (Law & Order: Special Victims Unit’s Diana Coconubo).

Ebright’s Broken Telegraph is producing the pic, also to star Kailey Rhodes (Black Pool), Ayanna Berkshire (Twilight) and Lowell Deo (Z Nation). Fabian is repped by The Kohner Agency and Essential Talent Management.

Creatures from the Pink Lagoon (2006)
Written by Chris Diani and Basil Harris

Directed by Chris Diani

Featuring Nick Garrison, Lowell Deo, Evan Mosher, Philip D. Clarke, Vincent Kovar, John Kaufmann, Bill Morrison

Review by Amanda Rebholz

Rarely do campy films actually deliver on the promise of being genuinely entertaining; often times it seems like they’re composed primarily of obscure inside-jokes or sweeping generalizations that seem trite and bland by the time they reach their audience via the film itself. With this said, Chris Diani’s film Creatures from the Pink Lagoon manages to both amuse and entertain in a genuine way that both pokes fun at gay cultural stereotypes while also having a very affectionate wink-wink-nudge-nudge attitude of someone who appreciates the clichés for what they are...

The film opens with a funeral, and an oversized drag queen being buried in his favorite kimono. We cut to the iconic zombie-film staple shot of a...
