BBC Studios Exec Caroline Stone Heads To Pathé UK

Former BBC Studios exec Caroline Stone has joined the UK-branch of French film company Pathé, Pathé Productions, in the newly created role of commercial director.

Pathé said the appointment consolidates the expansion of its business in the UK into premium scripted television.

Stone was previously at BBC Studios Productions for 15 years, where she had a variety of roles including, since 2020, Commercial Director of Scripted where she helped Studios establish critical distribution partnerships with all the leading drama producers in the UK.

Pathé said that in her time at BBC Studios she was also instrumental in helping build a substantial portfolio of wholly owned or majority owned scripted production labels, as well as part of a list of successful investments including: Small Axe, The Pursuit of Love, Sherwood, Raindogs, This Is Going To Hurt, Happy Valley and Mood.

The Weinstein Company Acquires North American Rights for Julian Schnabel’s Miral

Director Julian Schnabel chose to follow up his Oscar-nominated Diving Bell and the Butterfly gig with Miral, which “chronicles Hind Husseinis efforts to establish an orphanage in Jerusalem after the 1948 partition of Palestine and the creation of the state of Israel.” Miral is an adaptation of the novel by Rula Jebreal, who also penned the script. The film stars Hiam Abbass, Freida Pinto, Willem Defoe, and Vanessa Redgrave.

Luckily for me, Miral just landed a North American release courtesy of The Weinstein Company, who promise the film will hit theaters by the end of the year. Hit the jump for the full press release.

The film chronicles Hind Husseinis efforts to establish an orphanage in Jerusalem after the 1948 partition of Palestine and the creation of the state of Israel. Miral is based on a novel by Rula Jebreal, who also wrote the screenplay, stars Freida Pinto (Slumdog Millionaire) and is produced by Jon Kilik (Diving Bell and the Butterfly, Before Night Falls, Babel, Dead Man Walking, Malcolm X). The deal was announced by Harvey and Bob Weinstein, Co-Chairman of The Weinstein Company. The Weinstein Company plans to release the film later this year.

Jerusalem, 1948. On her way to work, Hind Husseini (Hiam Abbass) comes across 55 orphaned children in the street. She takes them home to give them food and shelter. Within six months, 55 had grown to almost 2000, and the Dar Al-Tifel Institute was born.
