Michael J. Fox's role in Tim Burton's Mars Attacks! is often overlooked, despite his energetic and sleazy performance as Jason Stone. Mars Attacks! featured a star-studded cast, including Jack Nicholson, Danny DeVito, and Pierce Brosnan, showcasing Burton's influence in the 1990s. Fox's performance in Mars Attacks! is worth remembering, as he found success in experimental films during this era of his career.
Though I and many know Michael J. Fox for his most iconic performance in Back to the Future, we should never forget his role in a famous Tim Burton movie. He gained acclaim as Marty McFly in the Back to the Future franchise, though Fox now has mixed feelings on reboot attempts. After the series ended in 1990, Fox had enough power to collaborate and experiment with his films. He has since retired, but Fox's career might resume post-retirement, as Fox has said that he would...

Michael Cera is recalling his time with Rihanna on the set of This Is the End and remembering the slap the singer gave him in the film which turned out to be real.
“I thought it would look a lot better if she hit me. I don’t think it took much convincing to get her to do it,” Cera told Rolling Stone in a recent interview. “I just thought it would look a lot better than a fake slap would because you can really feel it. It just looks a lot funnier!”
The Arrested Development alum said that the slap ended up being the cut they used for the actual film.
“I definitely did not regret it! I was into it,” he added. “The take that is in the movie, she really did hit my ear, which was disorienting. But I have no regrets. I didn’t lose any hearing over it,...

Michael J. Fox is best known for starring in hit movies and TV shows in the '80s and '90s, including Spin City and the Back to the Future trilogy, though his filmography is full of forgotten and underrated features deserving recognition among the list of his top films. The beloved actor began his career in the late '70s and became a household name through his role as Alex P. Keaton on the popular sitcom Family Ties the following decade. He broke out on the big screen with the 1985 blockbuster Back to the Future, proving to be a star with real box office appeal.
Throughout his career, Fox has found ways to reinvent himself, and he has played a wide variety of movie and TV characters over the decades, from affable everymen to unlikable yuppies. While he had his share of flops, his best movies have typically capitalized on his whip-smart comedic timing.

‘Pimped’
David Barker’s psychological thriller Pimped, which explores what might happen if two men lured a woman who proved to be stronger, smarter and more cunning than them, won the Australian feature award at Monster Fest: The Homecoming.
Staged at Cinema Nova from November 22-25, the seventh edition of Monster Fest drew nearly 2,900 patrons, a record for the event.
The Golden Monster award for best feature went to director Jonas Åkerlund’s Lords of Chaos, which is set in Oslo in 1987 and stars Rory Culkin as a teenager who forms the aptly-titled black metal band Mayhem with his equally fanatical mates. They begin burning down churches throughout the countryside and stealing tombstones for their record store, leading to violence. It has yet to find a local distributor.

"She's different from the others." Gravitas has debuted an official trailer for an intriguing indie sci-fi film titled At First Light, originally just First Light. The film premiered at the SXSW Film Festival, the second feature made by filmmaker Jason Stone. At First Light is about a young woman named Alex Lainey, played by newcomer Stefanie Scott, who has a close encounter with mysterious orbs of light that leave her with extraordinary powers. As they flee from their families, the police, and a government agency, Alex and her friend Sean find themselves at the center of an unprecedented event in human history. The cast includes Théodore Pellerin, Kristin Booth, Kate Burton, and Josh Cruddas. This actually looks pretty damn cool. Even though we've seen plenty of superpowers movies recently, I'm a bit more curious about this one. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Jason Stone's At First Light, direct...

Hey, fellow Riverdale fans. We're sure that most of you guys were wondering where in the hell was the new episode 18 last night? Unfortunately, it turned out to be a rerun of episode 13 which of course already aired earlier this season. Yeah, for some reason, the next, new episode 18 has been delayed for quite some time, but not extremely long. It's not going to air next Wednesday night either. It's currently scheduled to hit the airwaves on Wednesday night, April 18, 2018 in it's usual 7 pm central time slot. So, be sure to mark that important date down on your TV calendars. What is The CW airing instead of Riverdale next week? According to the TV Guide listings, they will be airing a special Harry Potter show. It's titled, "Harry Potter: A History of Magic." It will apparently take up most of the primetime duration with a runtime of an hour and a half.

As this generation’s filmmakers attempt to create their own superhero origin stories without going through Marvel or DC, Jason Stone’s First Light succeeds by blending Chronicle with Ya romance. Hard sci-fi elements that limit themselves to rural country suburbs before breaking out like a conspiracy containment gone wrong. As illuminations flicker and cosmic mysteries unravel, […]

While 2016 award-winner Arrival may have gotten more people thinking about the implications of human-extraterrestrial contact, it’s probably safe to say that the topic isn’t high on the list of the usual teenage concerns. So when two young people are forced to confront an alien arrival in First Light, it’s not surprising if they’re ill-equipped to deal with the experience.
Positing first contact with time- and space-traveling entities as the ultimate coming of age moment, writer-director Jason Stone reaches for grand analogies that manage to both overstate the profundity of typical adolescent experience and minimize the significance of civilizational shift...

Teen Lust is definitely a dubious title. It's not one you want to order on the company dime while on a business trip. Nor do you want it read back to you while Visa runs a credit fraud check. And it's probably not a title you want your spouse spotting during that end of the month bill pay. Perhaps that's why we haven't heard too much about it yet. People are afraid. The movie may be hampered by it's gleefully inappropriate nomenclature. But that saucy title barely scratches at the surface of what hides behind it.
Yes, lovers of 80s sex comedies are in for a real treat. And the movie certainly trumps the idea that Hollywood has run out of original ideas. We, as true movie fans, just have to dig a litter deeper. If Teen Lust had of been released in 1986, or even in 1996, untouched, we'd be celebrating its anniversary as a classic.

We follow Detective Inspector Hazel Micallef (played by Susan Sarandon) who stumbles upon a gruesome murder that shatters her peaceful existence and leads her to unearth a series of similar killings across the country. The directorial debut of Jason Stone (best known for being co-writer on inspiration for This is the End, short movie Jay and Seth Versus the Apocalypse) The Calling sees Hazel Micallef (Susan Sarandon), a police detective in the small Canadian town of Fort Dundas, investigating the brutal murder of one of the towns inhabitants. When one body leads to another and another, Micallef and her team, including new recruit Ben (Topher Grace), come to realize the religious fanatic (Christopher Heyerdhal) behind the murders is only just beginning. A totally engaging police prcedural, The Calling makes great use of the gloomy Canadian wilderness, all dense forests and barren, snow covered fields , to instill a nice sense of dread into proceedings. It hits the ground running, with the first act more concerned with personal lives of Micallef and those who surround her. It does a great job of building up the characters,...

New Director Jason Stone brings to life a psychological crime thriller – highlighted by an All-star cast – with his new film – The Calling.
Hazel Micallef (Susan Sarandon) plays a seasoned cop in the quaint little town of Fort Dundas, which hasn’t seen too much excitement in years. When she decides to check on a neighbor and good friend of her mother Emily (Ellen Burstyn), Micallef happens upon a gruesome crime scene.
Micallef needs help to solve this type of murder, so she reaches out to Detective Ray Green (Gil Bellows), who doesn’t seem to want to come to her aid, now or ever. When a younger cop named Ben Wingate (Topher Grace) decides to transfer to their precinct, he might just be the help she needs to find who committed this heinous crime!
Well it looks like we might just have a serial killer on our hands,...

Canadian culture has long been a topic of discussion among intellectuals simply because there are those who argue that it doesn’t really exist. Obviously there is a culture that those of us living in Canada experience, but it is difficult to ascribe a distinct Canadian nature to that culture since so much of it is almost directly adopted from our neighbors to the south.
There is one piece though, that does differ significantly between Canadians and Americans, religion. It doesn’t really matter what faith one practices in Canada, it is generally a very private thing. Popular culture is almost universally secular with the exception of the occasional political discussion. But even then, the rhetoric in discussions around abortion, same gender marriage, and physician assisted suicide never reach the same heights that they do in the Us.

Busy Signals: Stone’s Aptly Named Thriller Phones It In
There is not anything innately offensive about a really decent made-for-tv thriller, especially the type based on those ceaseless examples of books once referred to as dime store pulp fiction, juicy, hard boiled or even illogical. These types of mildly entertaining whodunits aren’t without a certain sense of craftsmanship either. But half their charm is that they’re on television, so they may seem a bit irritating if you had to pay to see them in the theater—and that’s concerning the really decent ones. It’s hard to say why writer/producer Jason Stone chose to adapt The Calling, the first in a series of mystery novels by Michael Redhill, published under the pseudonym of Inger Ash Wolfe. Adapted by screenwriter Scott Abramovitch, who has only written films for television previously, it’s a lukewarm endeavor a...

After starring in the lighthearted summer comedy Tammy, Susan Sarandon takes on the thriller genre in a new international trailer for The Calling. The latest effort from the Evan Goldberg stable is also the first directed by the prolific writer-producer, in tandem with star Seth Rogen, who also breaks his helming virginity in this riotously funny, postmodern apocalyptic comedy about celebrities being faced with the end of times.
It’s a doozy of a high concept – based on Jay and Seth versus the Apocalypse, a short film created by Jason Stone and Goldberg in 2007 – in which a gang of Hollywood’s most famous comic actors stare down the end of the world while partying at James Franco’s house.
After the initial gathering – including cameos from Christopher “McLovin” Mintz-Plasse, Jason Segel, Mindy Kaling, Aziz Ansari and many more – is brutally whittled down to just Rogen, Franco, Jonah Hill, Danny McBride, Craig Robinson and Jay Baruchel (who is in La visiting Rogen), the surviving comedians must band together in order...
