'The Cleaning Lady’ Fans Get a Win After Devastating Cancellation Blow
Image
The Cleaning Lady was recently cancelled after four seasons on Fox. During its run on the network, the drama series had new episodes available to stream on Hulu, a day after their TV debut. All four seasons are still available to stream on Hulu. However, more people will now be able to access the entire series as the complete season has also become available to stream on a new platform. Inspired by the 2017 Argentine television series La chica que limpia, The Cleaning Lady follows Thony De La Rosa, a Cambodian surgeon who immigrates to the US seeking medical care for her ailing son.

Image
Paramount recently released a series of images for their upcoming show "Star Trek: Starfleet Academy," and Trekkies are already poring over them, looking for clues, details, and character quirks that might more closely inform them as to what kind of series we'll be looking forward to. The cast for the series has already been announced, and it will include Kerrice Brooks, Bella Shepard, George Hawkins, Karim Diané, Zoë Steiner, and Sandro Rosta as its central Starfleet Cadets. None of their characters' names have been released yet, but we'll know them soon enough.

The cast will also include Tig Notaro, reprising her role as Jett Reno from "Star Trek: Discovery," as well as Robert Picardo, reprising his role as The Doctor from "Star Trek: Voyager." Trekkies can tell you that "Voyager" is set a good 815 years before the 32nd century of "Starfleet Academy," but the Doctor is a hologram and, as we now see,...

The Cleaning Lady's Renewal Fate Revealed Following Season 4 Finale
Image
The future of The Cleaning Lady on Fox has been confirmed. It's not good news for fans hoping to see the show return for a fifth season.

Per Variety, it's been revealed that Fox has canceled The Cleaning Lady after four seasons. The news comes days after the fourth season finale. It's one of two shows to get the boot, joined by Alert: Missing Persons. Both shows recently wrapped up their newest seasons, with the latter consisting of three. This also follows the network's previous cancelation of Rescue: Hi-Surf, which was axed after a single season.

Doc was given a Season 2 renewal while massive four-season renewals were given to the animated shows The Simpsons, Bob's Burgers, and Family Guy. American Dad! has also returned to Fox after a hiatus of several years. Additionally, there will be some new shows coming to the network to fill the void of the canceled shows.

The Fate of ‘The Cleaning Lady’ Has Been Decided by Fox
Image
The Cleaning Lady is halfway through its fourth season on Fox, and the network has officially reached a verdict on the series’ future. Fox has announced that The Cleaning Lady has been canceled and will not receive a fifth season. The show went through a heavy creative retooling between Seasons 3 and 4, and ratings thus far have not been good enough to warrant another season of the series. It’s unclear at this time if Fox will shop the series around. Starring in the lead role of Thony in The Cleaning Lady is Elodie Yung, who’s best known for her role as Elektra in Netflix’s Daredevil series. The Cleaning Lady follows Thony, a doctor who comes to the U.S. searching for medical treatment for her son, but when the system fails them, she takes matters into her own hands.

In addition to Yung, only two other stars have...

The Cleaning Lady Season 4 finale aired on Tuesday, June 3, and now serves as the show’s series finale. The outcome isn’t too surprising after decreased ratings and viewership spelled trouble for the Élodie Yung-led crime thriller. Here’s everything we know about The Cleaning Lady‘s Season 4 ending and how it left things open for a fifth season that will never be. How did The Cleaning Lady Season 4 end? Thony (Yung) faced her most grueling challenges yet in the two-hour finale on June 3, which started with Thony in prison after her fake husband, whom she has real feelings for, Jorge (Santiago Cabrera), framed her for the murder of Rex Blackley. ‘Cleaning Lady,’ ‘Alert: Missing Persons Unit’ Canceled at Fox
Image
Both “The Cleaning Lady” and “Alert: Missing Persons Unit” have been canceled at Fox, Variety has learned.

“The Cleaning Lady” had aired four seasons at the broadcast network, while “Alert: Missing Persons Unit” had aired three. Both shows wrapped up with their respective season finales in the past two weeks.

Fox announced their fall schedule going into their upfront presentation to advertisers in May, with both “Cleaning Lady” and “Alert” in limbo at that time. The two shows now join fellow Fox drama “Rescue: Hi-Surf” on the chopping block.

Previously, Fox gave out massive four-season renewals for “The Simpsons,” “Bob’s Burgers” and “Family Guy,” while also bringing “American Dad” back to the network. The medical drama “Doc” has also been renewed for a second season, while Fox has picked up the one-hour comedy “Best Medicine,” dramatic thriller “Memory of a Killer,” and the multi-part scripted event “The Faithful.”

‘Alert’ & ‘The Cleaning Lady’ Canceled By Fox
Image
Fox has determined the fate of two bubble shows, canceling dramas Alert: Missing Persons Unit after three seasons and The Cleaning Lady after four.

The network had delayed final decisions on its remaining bubble series until after their current seasons had aired. Alert wrapped its Season 3 run on May 27, and The Cleaning Lady‘s fourth season ended on June 3.

The cancellations do not come as a surprise as Alert, The Cleaning Lady as well as the other two Fox scripted series not picked up for next season, Accused and The Great North, sit at the bottom of the network’s 2024-25 season rankings.

Animated comedy The Great North also is expected to be canceled once its current fifth season ends later this month.

As for anthology Accused, developed and executive produced by Howard Gordon, it might come back in the future for a limited run as an event, Michael Thorn,...

'It Was Terrible': Star Trek: Picard Showrunner Reflects on Replacing Original Cast With Tng Stars in Season 3
Image
The third season of Star Trek: Picard memorably brought back the majority of the cast of The Next Generation, a move that was celebrated by fans. Season 3 drew a near-perfect score of 97% on Rotten Tomatoes, which was firmly the highest of all three seasons.

There was a downside to bringing back the stars of The Next Generation, even if it resulted in very high acclaim. Per ScreenRant, Terry Matalas was doing an interview for The Sackhoff Show when addressed becoming sole showrunner for Season 3 after serving as co-showrunner alongside Akiva Goldsman for Season 2. He remembered having a vision to make Season 3 feel more like The Next Generation, and from there, all it took was getting Patrick Stewart on board. Unfortunately, the budget would not allow for Stewart's co-stars from the first two seasons to return, meaning that "sacrifices" had to be made.

"We got to the end of [Picard Season 2], and Akiva’s like,...

“It Was Terrible”: Star Trek: Picard Showrunner Explains Why Original Cast Wasn’t In Season 3
Image
Star Trek: Picard season 3 showrunner Terry Matalas explained why it was "terrible" to lose Picard's original actors to make way for the cast of Star Trek: The Next Generation. Santiago Cabrera, Allison Pill, Isa Briones, and Evan Evagora were Star Trek: Picard season 1 series regulars alongside Patrick Stewart, Michelle Hurd, and Jeri Ryan. However, only Ryan and Hurd joined Stewart for Star Trek: Picard season 3, which reunited Admiral Jean-Luc Picard with his crew from the USS Enterprise-d.

Appearing on The Sackhoff Show to discuss his career, including Marvel Studios' Vision Quest and 12 Monkeys, Terry Matalas explained how he joined Star Trek: Picard as co-showrunner for season 2 with Akiva Goldsman. As sole showrunner for Star Trek: Picard season 3, Matalas told host Katee Sackhoff about having to convince Stewart to bring back the cast of Star Trek: The Next Generation, but that season 3's budget required the "sacrifice" of losing...

The Cleaning Lady season 4 premieres next week (Here's everything you need to know going into the season)
Image
The Cleaning Lady is coming back for season 4, so here’s what to remember about the underrated Fox crime drama!

The Cleaning Lady premiered on Fox in 2022 and became a surprise sleeper hit. It centers on Thony De La Rosa (Elodie Yung), a Cambodian-Filipino former surgeon living in Las Vegas with her ill five-year-old son, Luca. With her visa expired, Thony is reduced to being a cleaning lady at a local casino to make ends meet.

The plot kicked in when Thony witnessed drug lord Arman Morales (Adan Canto) killing a rival. To save her life, Thony offers to clean up the crime scene. Before long, she’s the go-to “cleaner” for the mob and it gets worse when the FBI pushes her to become an informant.

The first two seasons balanced Thony trying to keep herself and her family safe, aided by sister-in-law Fiona (Martha Milian). She also fights a strange attraction to Arman,...

The 10 Highest-Grossing Movies of 2024
Image
2024 was a great year for movie fans, delivering a combination of instant classics, blockbuster hits, and well-received sequels, from Nosferatu and Longlegs to Twisters and Alien: Romulus. While some of the year's best movies weren't blockbuster hits, others crossed box office records, delivering fan service and entertainment for various fan bases. The year has been perfect for large franchises.

Although not a surprise, 2024 marks a rarity for Hollywood as a year when all of the US' ten highest-grossing movies are sequels, without exception. From long-awaited superhero team-ups to continuations of iconic family animated movies, the year has raked in billions for major studios, affirming the industry's focus on major franchises. Financial success is no guarantee of quality one way or the other, but the year has produced plenty of successful and entertaining films.

Actors That Fans Didn't Realize Starred in Several 2024 Movies
Image
In another distinctive year for movies, 2024 featured many actors in Hollywood getting very booked and busy. It is typical for an actor to have one or two projects for them to stand out in the year, yet some actors go beyond and star in three or more movies. Because 2024 became crowded with new cinematic features, most viewers didn't realize they saw one actor multiple times.

These actors in 2024 showcased more of their range. They could transition from a spectacular blockbuster to a more character-driven drama or even an animated feature. Acting veterans like Willem Dafoe and Giancarlo Esposito and continuously rising stars such as Margaret Qualley and Fred Hechinger are just a few of several performers who worked extra hard during this particular year.

'Beetlejuice Beetlejuice's Big Musical Number, Explained
Image
When Beetlejuice Beetlejuice hit theaters in late summer, nobody knew if it would connect with audiences like the 1988 original, now a beloved classic. Director Tim Burton and star Michael Keaton didn't want to make some cheap nostalgia-bait sequel, and waited until they had a new story they felt was worth telling. Luckily for everyone involved, it worked. The film was one of the biggest hits of 2024, grossing over $450 million worldwide and reinvigorating audiences' love for the characters. But as much as the creative team didn't want to repeat themselves, some elements from the first film were probably destined to carry over. One such element comes from one of the first movie's most memorable moments: the supernatural lip-sync number.

In the original, the invading Deetz family is possessed into singing and dancing to Harry Belafonte's "Day-o (The Banana Boat Song)" by the recently deceased Maitlands (Geena Davis and Alec Baldwin...

'She's Just Waiting!': Star Trek: Picard's Alison Pill Talks Possible Return of Jurati Borg Queen
Image
In Season 1 of Star Trek: Picard, Alison Pill played cyberneticist Agnes Jurati, a role she reprised for Season 2, but with a bit of a different take. At the end of Season 2 of Picard, Jurati was assimilated by the Borg, becoming a new, not-so-evil Borg Queen. Now, per Screen Rant, the Scott Pilgrim vs. The World actress says she’d come back to Trek if she were called.

Pill is currently starring in Young Werther, a romantic comedy from director José Avelino Gilles Corbett Lourenço. She said she’s not under any type of contract to return but would be open to the prospect of coming back to the Star Trek franchise.

“If I was on a retainer, I could pay my mortgage and just wait for Star Trek to call!” Pill said. “Then I could spend summers eating gelato! No, there is no retainer. But I would happily revisit Jurati Borg Queen any time.

‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’ Blu-ray Review
Image
Stars: Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, Catherine O’Hara, Jenna Ortega, Justin Theroux, Willem Dafoe, Monica Bellucci, Arthur Conti, Santiago Cabrera, Burn Gorman | Written by Alfred Gough, Miles Millar | Directed by Tim Burton

There’s a great scene in 1993’s classic time-loop comedy Groundhog Day, where Bill Murray’s character experiences a near-perfect day with Andie MacDowell’s Rita, but messes up right at the end, missing his chance to kiss her. On his next loop, he tries to recreate their perfect day for a second chance and fails miserably because all his efforts feel forced and desperate. That’s pretty much what it feels like to watch Tim Burton’s long-awaited Beetlejuice sequel, which tries extremely hard to remind you why you loved the original 1988 movie, but ends up feeling like an incoherent mess, frantically shouting, “Remember this bit? What about this bit?”

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice joins the characters 36 years after the events of the first movie.

Tim Burton Reveals His Strange and Disturbing Dreams of Getting a Haircut from Donald Trump
Image
Tim Burton is one of the greatest creative minds to have ever worked in Hollywood, and it seems that the only thing wilder than the stories he puts on screen are those that he dreams about. While appearing at the Marrakech Film Festival (via Deadline), Burton was asked during a panel the question of what he dreams about. Apparently, getting a haircut from Donald Trump.

Yes, it seems that the director who masterminded freaky fantasy movies such as Beetlejuice, Sleepy Hollow, and Frankenweenie has been having some very peculiar dreams about the president-elect. As he explained to the press:

“I was at dinner at Donald Trump’s house. He wasn’t living Mar-a-Lago but a suburban house. I needed a haircut, so he personally gave me a haircut. It turned out to be a weird version of like a mullet and his hair and then I woke up.”

It is...

Exclusive: Fox’s The Cleaning Lady has added Daniel Bonjour and Alain Uy to its recurring cast for Season 4.

The series follows Thony De La Rosa (Élodie Yung), a Cambodian-Filipino former surgeon who makes a living as a cleaning service worker alongside her sister-in-law, Fiona (Martha Millan). After witnessing a murder, Thony is offered a job both as a cleaner and a doctor within a criminal organization that could pay well enough to help her son and her family.

Bonjour will appear as “Dr. Dupont,” an overworked attending physician at a clinic serving one of Las Vegas’ poorest neighborhoods. He emigrated from France years ago because doctors here make more money than they do anywhere else in the world — at least that’s the reason he gives publicly.
