Where’s Wanda? Renewed for Second Season by Apple

Apple TV+ has announced an eight-episode second season for the German-language dark comedy Where’s Wanda? UFA Fiction produces the series.

The series stars International Emmy Award nominee Heike Makatsch (Love Actually), German Comedy Award winner Axel Stein (The Vault), multiple award-winning actress Lea Drinda (The Gryphon) and Leo Simon, as they return for season two of this “colorful, quirky caper.”

Following its global debut, Where’s Wanda? has been hailed as an “electrifying,” “standout” series keeping “viewers on the edge of their seats” with “a unique blend of dark comedy and suspense,” and featuring “immensely likable, and often affecting performances” by its “talented cast.”

Season one achieved a rare perfect 100% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes. Fans applaud the “beautiful” show as the “kind of gem Apple only seems capable of creating” and “a compelling new addition” to “Apple TV+‘s expanding international offerings.”

‘Where’s Wanda?’ Renewed For Season 2 At Apple TV+

Apple TV+ has given the greenlight to a second season of its debut German original Where’s Wanda?.

Starring Heike Makatsch (Love Actually) and Axel Stein (The Vault), the dark comedy follows the Klatts. Just as they thought their lives were finally returning to normal, their daughter Wanda (Lea Drinda) is caught seemingly red-handed, standing over a dead body. They will need to do everything in their power to prove her innocence and to avoid losing her again, as their investigation to find the real murderer takes them into the criminal underbelly of their sleepy suburban town.

Where’s Wanda? is produced by Germany’s UFA Fiction. It is one of a number of Apple TV+ non-English language shows, joining the likes of France’s La Maison and Spain’s You Would Do It Too. Yesterday, Apple launched Berlin ER, the German-language medical drama co-created by former emergency room physician-turned-screenwriter Samuel Jefferson.

Apple TV+ today unveiled the trailer for Where’s Wanda?, the eight-episode German-language dark comedy produced by UFA Fiction. The trailer allows you to watch it in German with English subtitles or dubbed in English.

Apple TV+’s first German original will premiere globally, with the first two episodes on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, followed by one episode weekly through November 13.

Apple TV+ Sets October Launch Date For German Drama Series ‘Where’s Wanda?’

Apple TV+’s debut German original drama Where’s Wanda? will launch globally on Wednesday, October 2.

The first two episodes will drop that day, followed by new episodes every Wednesday through to November 13.

The series was Apple’s first German scripted series order and the industry has been awaiting its launch, with some suggesting its success or otherwise will color how the global streamer approaches commissioning in the country going forwards. “The show has been in post for ages, and everyone is really hoping is does well when it launches,” a source in Germany told us this summer as part of our deep dive into German TV drama.

“Where’s Wanda?” tells the story of a couple desperate to find their missing daughter. After months of waiting for the police to track her down, Dedo and Carlotta Klatt finally take matters into their own hands. With the help of their tech-savvy son Ole, the family bug their local neighbourhood – which is when they begin to realize that their neighbors are hiding more than they realized.

Cannes: Media Luna adds four to slate

Exclusive: Films by Petri Kotwica and Jan Prusinovský are among four new titles acquired by Media Luna New Films ahead of next week’s Cannes Marché.

The first new addition to Media Luna’s sales line-up is Petri Kotwica’s Finnish-Irish drama Absolution, starring Laura Birn (A Walk Among The Tombstones), Mari Rantasila and Eero Aho.

Also new to the slate is Dutch filmmaker Joost van Ginkel’s Amsterdam-set drama The Paradise Suite, with Magnus Krepper (The Girl Who Played With Fire), and Slovenian Blaz Zavrsnik’s comedy Juliet And Alfa Romeo.

The final new addition is Czech director Jan Prusinovský’s local box-office hit The Snake Brothers with Kryštof Hádek and Matěj Hádek.

Ida Martins’ Cologne-based outfit is also handling international sales for veteran director Stijn Coninx’s feelgood drama Marina, based on the childhood memories of the Italian-Belgian singer Rocco Granata, which has been selected for the Cannes Écrans Juniors competition this year.

Filmstifftung adds $1.3 million to 'Vollidiot' budget
COLOGNE, Germany -- Regional subsidy group Filmstifftung NRW announced Tuesday it is backing German director Tobi Baumann's Vollidiot (Blithering Idiot) with €1.1 million ($1.3 million) in production funding. The movie is a romantic comedy based on the best seller by German author Tommy Jaud. Baumann's feature film debut, The Wanker, was a sleeper hit in 2004. Vollidiot stars German television comedian Oliver Pocher in his first feature film role. Pocher plays Simon, a no-luck 20-something who falls for the wrong woman again and again.
