Stephen Colbert Starred In One Of The Worst-Rated Movies On IMDb
Image
Stephen Colbert has a long and prolific career in comedy and on television, stretching back to his TV debut in 1993 on the mystery series "Missing Persons." One of his notable TV breakouts was the short-lived 1995 sketch comedy series "Exit 57," which he co-created. This led to a longtime gig on "The Daily Show" beginning in 1997, a gig that lasted for eight years and 1,316 episodes. He was also a writer on the show. In 1999, he co-created, starred in, and wrote the cult comedy series "Strangers With Candy," all while taking various acting gigs and voice roles. In 2005, he created "The Colbert Report," which was a spoof of right-wing media punditry, and served to skewer the foolish actions of the George W. Bush administration.

Beginning in 2015, Colbert began hosting "The Late Show With Stephen Colbert," one of the sharpest shows on late-night TV. He has nine Emmys. On the show, Colbert regularly and...

Adult Swim's Medical Show Is A Hilarious Palate Cleanser For The Pitt Fans
Image
While the movie business has experienced a concerning degree of commercial and critical turbulence over the first three months of 2025, television has stepped up to provide entertainment seekers an impressive array of captivating new series, as well as stellar new seasons from returning shows. "Severance" just stuck the landing at the end of its celebrated second season, "The White Lotus" is back doing its darkly comedic thing with possibly its strongest cast to date, and "The Studio" is a brilliantly brutal Hollywood satire that takes no prisoners in showing viewers how the showbiz sausage is made.

Hence, it's a very high compliment to suggest that the new Max hospital drama, "The Pitt," might be the best of the '25 bunch thus far. Created by R. Scott Gemmill, a TV writing veteran who got his start on "ER" before taking the showrunning reins on "NCIS: Los Angeles," the show is a...

Jude Law, Keira Knightley, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson in Anna Karenina (2012)
All Happy Families review – childhood home is renovation project in likable indie drama
Jude Law, Keira Knightley, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson in Anna Karenina (2012)
An entire family gather to renovate their creaking childhood home in this easygoing, truthful portrait

“All happy families are alike,” the famous first line of Anna Karenina tells us. “But each unhappy family is unhappy in its own way.” The opening scene of this heart-on-sleeve American indie drama gives an almighty – and none too subtle – hint as to which sort of family is going to be the subject here. A plumber is in the basement of a family home in Chicago peering with a spy camera into the pipes. Something is rotting under the house: a rat! Worse, the ancient creaking pipes might collapse at any moment.

The house belongs to out-of-work actor and scriptwriter Graham Landry (Josh Radnor); more accurately it actually belongs to his successful older brother Will (Rob Huebel) the star of an outrageously awful hit TV series. It was their childhood home, bought by Will from their parents.

Chevy Chase Admitted This Is One of the Stupidest Things He Ever Said
Image
Self-awareness has never been Chevy Chase’s strong suit. So when the comic actor raises his hand and admits, “I said something stupid,” we should probably pay attention. That’s what happened when Chase sat down with Bill Maher on his Club Random podcast two years ago, as reported by Far Out, calling out his own bad behavior during a 1980 talk show appearance with Tom Snyder.

Snyder was in full celebrity schmooze mode that night, noting that people in Hollywood were calling Chase the next Cary Grant. The SNL star didn’t necessarily take it as a compliment. “I said, ‘That’s crazy, there’s nobody like Cary Grant and there will never be another Cary Grant and I understand he was a homo,’” Chase told Maher. He didn’t stop there, referring to Grant with a sarcastically cheerful, “What a gal!”

Given 40 years or so to reconsider his words,...

Here’s Which Books ‘Goosebumps: The Vanishing’ Is Based On
Image
For many people, R.L. Stine’s Goosebumps series was their introduction to horror, either through the book series that he’s been writing and adding to since the early '90s, or through the initial TV series that ran from 1995 to 1998. Stine’s skillful blend of dark and humorous elements made his work accessible, and the perfect introduction to the horror genre for kids who may have otherwise been too young for it. The popularity and incredible fanbase for both the original '90s show and the book series, even after 30 years, is why it was no surprise when Disney decided to reboot the show.

The wild success of the first season of the new Goosebumps, drawing in fans of the original show as well as younger audiences who were introduced to a Goosebumps TV show for the first time, made a second season of the show likely. Now, less...

'How Do We Make It Funny?': Friends' David Schwimmer Brings Laughs to Goosebumps
Image
Disney+ brought R.L. Stine's classic young adult horror anthology Goosebumps back to TV screens, revamping it for a new generation of horror fans. With its dark and wryly humorous storyline, twisted intrigue, fresh themes and nods to its '90s roots -- including the return of iconic dummy mascot Slappy -- the Goosebumps reboot was a resounding success. Now Season 2 aims to startle audiences all over again, with Friends star David Schwimmer in the lead.

Goosebumps: The Vanishing is a whole new story based on a classic idea -- the evil plants from "Stay Out of the Basement" -- with a darker twist. In 1994, four teenagers went missing when they ventured underneath New York City. 30 years later, fraternal twins CeCe and Devin visit their father Anthony (played by Schwimmer) in Brooklyn. But Anthony has a tragic past directly linked to the mysterious disappearances -- and his obsession with them...

Disney+ and Hulu Series 'Goosebumps' Season 2 Debuts January 10
Image
With a bevy of series and movies from global properties like Star Wars and Marvel joining Disney+ and Hulu each month, it's easy for an under-the-radar young adult series to go unnoticed — even those backed by nostalgic IP. Back in October 2023, that's precisely what happened when an ingenious interpretation of Goosebumps debuted on the streaming platforms. A little over a year later, fans are finally getting the second season—Goosebumps: The Vanishing—slated to be released on January 10.

Based on the series of beloved yet terrifying children's horror novels by the same name, Goosebumps (2023) serialized the anthology series originally penned by author R. L. Stine. Of course, this wasn't the first adaptation of the acclaimed series; there was a '90s television series that closely adapted individual stories and two films starring Jack Black as the horror author himself. Goosebumps (2023), however, differed considerably from the book series and the '...

Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter about the upcoming second season of the Disney+ Goosebumps series, Stine broke the news that "the writers are working" on more Fear Street movies for Netflix, and that he's got his "fingers crossed" they’ll eventually come to fruition. Image
Note: The following story contains spoilers from “The Sex Lives of College Girls” Season 3, Episode 2.

It’s the end of the road for Reneé Rapp’s Leighton Murray on “The Sex Lives of College Girls.”

News broke in 2023 that Rapp would be stepping down as a series regular in the Max series as she focuses on her music, and her departure was wrapped up in a two-episode arc at the start of Season 3.

After the Season 3 premiere saw Leighton commuting to an advanced math program at a not-so-nearby college, she gets word in Episode 2 that MIT is willing to admit her as a transfer student — the very next week. It turns out the location is pretty convenient as Leighton’s girlfriend Alicia (Midori Francis) told her in Episode 1 she would be leaving Essex to work for the mayor of Boston, and the pair agreed to stay together.

All Happy Families Review: Josh Radnor's Adult Coming-of-Age Dramedy Charms
Image
Dysfunctional family dynamics are in full swing in All Happy Families. The engaging dramedy, headlined by Josh Radnor and directed by Haroula Rose, finds one family in major flux. Suddenly, all at once, its as if everything in life has changed. Perhaps more challenging to accept is the fact that they, too, must change if theyre ever going to emerge gracefully from significant life transitions.

Joining Radnor is Chandra Russell (South Side), Becky Ann Baker, John Ashton (the Beverly Hills Cop films), and Rob Huebel. The films premise finds the Landry familys collective life angst converging around the same time. One of the most refreshing aspects of the film is that it delivers a rare achievement: delivering an adult coming-of-age story, which proves that not every major life transition just happens between the ages of 11 and 18.

To that end, the filmmaker, who also co-wrote the film with Coburn Goss, suggests...

All Happy Families Review: A Glimpse into One Family’s Complicated Bonds
Image
All Happy Families introduces us to the Landry family of Chicago. At the center is Graham, an aspiring actor and writer, played by Josh Radnor. He’s got his hands full with repairs to the old family home and finding a new tenant.

Enter Dana, an old flame and friend looking for an apartment—perhaps their fondness will rekindle. But Graham’s plans face disruption with the arrival of brother Will, a television star dealing with problems of his own back home.

Adding layers of complexity are their parents, Sue and Roy. Sue is coping with inappropriate behavior from her former boss, while Roy struggles with private demons. Deftly weaving these threads are co-writers Haroula Rose and Coburn Goss, exploring intimacy and heartache within a beloved cinematic form—the dysfunctional family.

Subtly directed by Rose, the characters feel vibrantly real as their stories unfold. With empathy and care, layered social themes emerge from intimate moments.

‘All Happy Families’ Review: Not All Indie Family Dramedies Are Alike
Image
“All happy families are alike,” claims the immortal first sentence of Leo Tolstoy’s “Anna Karenina”; “each unhappy family is unhappy in its own way.” And while jaded viewers may opine that all indie dramedies about dysfunctional families in the “Little Miss Sunshine” or “The Squid and the Whale” mold are alike, writer-director Haroula Rose’s “All Happy Families” suggests the genre has moved in a more grounded direction. Whether that’s ultimately a better direction remains to be seen.

The focal point of this particular family is Graham (Josh Radnor), an aspiring screenwriter/actor whose older brother Will (Rob Huebel) stars on a hugely popular (and seemingly terrible) TV series. As Will surprises Graham by flying from Los Angeles to Chicago for an unannounced visit to the childhood home they bought together, their mother Sue (Becky Ann Baker) is trying to figure out how to react to her former...

Bentonville Film Festival Celebrates Its 10th Anniversary With Renewed Purpose
Image
As festivals have increasingly endeavored to showcase more diverse talent, benchmarks of inclusivity occasionally run the risk of feeling like a dutiful checklist.

The Bentonville Film Festival, though, has celebrated — and elevated — underrepresented voices since its inception. Returning for its 10th edition from June 10-16, the northwest Arkansas festival has always taken as its mission statement the centering of work from not only LGBTQ+ and Bipoc creators but also other historically marginalized groups.

That focus shouldn’t be surprising, given that the festival’s roots stretch back to the Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media, a nonprofit research organization the actor founded after noticing the disparity in female characters while watching TV series and movies with her daughter.

While co-founder Davis remains Bentonville Film Festival’s chair, president Wendy Guerrero and artistic director Drea Clark, with a combined 19 years of experience with the festival, provide stability and steerage.

“The...

‘Knuckles’ Races To Streaming Record In Debut Weekend On Paramount+
Image
Sonic the Hedgehog is quite the asset for Paramount+.

The streamer debuted the six-episode limited series Knuckles on April 26, expanding the “Cinematic World of Sonic the Hedgehog” — and setting a streaming record in the process.

In its premiere weekend, Knuckles became the most-watched Paramount+ original series of all time with more than 4M hours streamed over that time frame. It’s also Paramount+’s most watched kids and family title ever.

Paramount+ rarely releases streaming data on its own accord, last touting the success of Lawmen: Bass Reeves. Just two episodes of that series amassed around 7.5M viewers globally in its first week on the platform. Of course, that also included a broadcast sampling run, which Knuckles did not receive.

The streamer is also using hours viewed to quantify the Knuckles audience, which makes it more difficult to compare to these previous numbers. Although, Knuckles appears poised to make an...

Knuckles TV Review

Plot: The new live-action event series follows Knuckles on a hilarious and action-packed journey of self-discovery as he agrees to train Wade as his protégé and teach him the ways of the Echidna warrior.

Review: It is hard to believe that Sonic The Hedgehog premiered on the big screen just before the Covid-19 pandemic shut down the world. What is even harder to believe is that the movie was actually pretty good. With a sequel released two years later and Sonic The Hedgehog 3 slated for December 2024, the world is chock full of Sega goodness these days. To bridge the wait until the end of this year, the six-episode limited series Knuckles highlights the Idris Elba-voiced echidna warrior’s journey to find his place in our world. Featuring limited connections to the movies, Knuckles has its moments but overall feels like an attempt to tread water until the third...

‘Knuckles’ Star Idris Elba On Keanu Reeves Joining ‘Sonic The Hedgehog’ Universe As Shadow

Idris Elba is reacting to news that Keanu Reeves is joining the Sonic the Hedgehog universe as the voice of Shadow for the third installment of the film saga.

Elba voices Knuckles the Echidna and, during the red carpet premiere of the upcoming Paramount+ series Knuckles, shared his thoughts on Reeves.

“I’m a big fan of his,” Elba said in an interview with IGN. “I’ve heard that he’s a fan of mine, and we are destined to make something together. So, here we go.”

Elba and Reeves had shared credits voicing characters in Cyberpunk 2077 which would make Sonic the Hedgehog 3 a reunion for the actors.

Shadow made a non-speaking appearance during a mid-credits scene in 2022’s Sonic the Hedgehog 2. The character is an anthropomorphic red-striped black hedgehog created by the government and set to resemble Sonic’s abilities.
