The Pixies performed “Motorroller,” a single from their 2024 album The Night The Zombies Came, on Wednesday’s episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live.

The venerated band appeared on a hazy set illuminated in greens and blues as singer Charles Thompson a.k.a. Black Francis and Emma Richardson — who joined the band in 2024 — crooned the grungy, guitar heavy tune.

The group’s appearance on Kimmel coincided with the beginning of their 2025 U.S. album tour, which began earlier this week in Las Vegas and will traverse cities throughout the United States and Canada through September.

“Motoroller” appears on Pixies’ latest album, The Night The Zombies Came, which arrived in 2024. “This is one of those kinds of songs where there’s little threads you can follow and they take you somewhere,” Frank Black previously said about the song. “But they’re not required for the experience. You can just start fishing around in the lyrics, and maybe you won’t find exactly what the story is, but you’ll find a story related to the city of Berlin. The alt-rock legends are presently in the midst of an extensive North American tour, with upcoming dates in Seattle, Washington, Montreal, and Boston, during which they’re performing their classic albums Bossanova and Trompe Le Monde in full.

A forensic audio and video editor and a longtime close friend of Cassie Ventura, the ex-partner of Sean “Diddy” Combs and his alleged longtime victim, who is central to federal prosecutor’s case against the fallen rap world superstar, testified in court Wednesday. On Monday, a federal agent testified in the ongoing trial against Sean Combs.

Combs was taken into custody on September 16, 2024, on charges of sex trafficking, racketeering and transportation to engage in prostitution. His trial began on May 5, with explosive testimony from a male escort.

The agent shared that during a raid of Combs’ New York City Park Hyatt hotel room following his September 2024 arrest, they uncovered a sizable amount of drugs, lubricant and baby oil and $9,000 in cash.

Dozens of photos from inside the hotel room have now been shared.

Last week, a bag with the substances was shown in court during a testimony by Department of Homeland Security agent Yasin Binda. The Pixies’s The Night the Zombies Came sees the first major change in personnel for the band since Paz Lenchantin took over as bassist and backing vocalist a decade ago. Lenchantin, who was unceremoniously removed from the lineup earlier this year, has been replaced by English musician and visual artist Emma Richardson, formerly of Band of Skulls. Richardson, whose vocals are featured prominently throughout, sings an octave above lead singer Black Francis, who even steps away from the mic on occasion to let her sing solo.

Richardson’s harmonies on songs like “Chicken” and “Mercy Me” are positively Beatles-esque, and by default probably the most conventionally beautiful moments in the Pixies’s discography to date. Built from both an acoustic and electric guitar line, “Motoroller” travels by “scooter” through Berlin, with vocalist Black Francis offering various vague details that pop up along his ride. Pixies have released a new song called “Oyster Beds,” which serves as the latest preview of their upcoming album, The Night the Zombies Came. Stream it below.

Featuring crunchy guitar riffs, “Oyster Beds” takes inspiration from frontman Black Francis’ return to painting as a way to find focus while recording the album at Rockfield Studios in Wales. In a statement, he said the lyrics are “a laundry list of things I was painting over the last couple years.”

Last month, Pixies announced their ninth studio album, The Night the Zombies Came, marking the band’s fifth studio release since they reunited in 2004. Now, in a new interview, they explained that one of the things inspiring them to create new music is the fact that they “don’t want to be a Pixies cover band.”

The comment was made by guitarist Joey Santiago in the band’s new interview with Mojo. Alluding to their continued output over the years, he said, “Fans are happy to hear old stuff, but we’re creative people… We don’t want to be a Pixies cover band.”

Growing up in the 1990s, I had two obsessions: Stephen King and "The X-Files." So when it was revealed that King, the master of horror himself, was going to pen an episode of the cult hit series, I was over the moon. Then I watched the episode. Sadly, King's "X-Files" ep, titled "Chinga," was not great. For one thing, it split-up Mulder (David Duchovny) and Scully (Gillian Anderson), which never goes well — the show needs these two working side-by-side, feeding off each other. If you don't believe me, just think about how the show went downhill after Duchovny left for a period, and how worse it got when Anderson started appearing in less episodes as well. Pixies have announced a brand new album called The Night the Zombies Came. It’s due for release just in time for Halloween — October 25th, to be exact — via BMG.

As its title and release date suggest, Pixies’ new album is at least partially inspired by the spooky season. Among the “disparate wonders” that inform the 13-track LP are “Druidism, apocalyptic shopping malls, mediaeval themed restaurants, 12th century poetic form, surf rock, gargoyles, bog people, and the distinctive dry drum sound of 1970s era Fleetwood Mac,” according to a press release.

Meanwhile, on the newly released single, “Chicken,” frontman Black Francis “personifies poultry, dealing with decapitation, and feeling like an actor of Zombie movies.” Watch the lyric video for “Chicken” below. Pixies’ Frank Black will commemorate the 30th anniversary of his sophomore solo album, Teenager of the Year, by performing it in full on a North American tour in 2025.

The tour will see Black joined by many of the musicians who played on Teenager of the Year, including Eric Drew Feldman, Lyle Workman, and Nick Vincent. The US run kicks off with a pair of shows in San Francisco in mid-January and also includes stops in Los Angeles, Denver, Minneapolis, Chicago, Detroit, Toronto, Boston, and Brooklyn. Additionally, Black will stage performances of the album in Paris and London in February.

The Pixies have parted ways with bassist Paz Lenchantin after a decade-long run with the band. They’ll be joined by former Band of Skulls bassist Emma Richardson when they kick off a European tour on March 8 in Dublin, Ireland.

The news of Lenchantin’s exit from the group came via a curiously dry statement from the group. “We’re grateful for Paz’s many contributions,” they wrote, “and wish her all the very best going forward.”

The Dandy Warhols have joined forces with Guns N’ Roses guitarist Slash for the new song “I’d Like to Help You with Your Problem.”

It’s the latest single from the Dandy Warhols’ upcoming album Rockmaker, out March 15th. As if to make good that album title, the Dandy’s tapped none other than Slash himself for the self-described “Vietnam-era acid rock” song.

The churning chord progression and big hooks are right in Slash’s wheelhouse, and he adds some captivating wah-wah leads and ostensibly the solo in the middle of the song. It’s a seamless collaboration — with some uncanny axework from a living legend.

The Dandy Warhols have unveiled a new single called “Danzig With Myself,” featuring a guest spot by Pixies frontman Black Francis. The song appears on the alt-rock band’s upcoming album, Rockmaker, out March 15th.

Musically, the song has a Pixies vibe, with Francis contributing a fuzzed-out guitar track. Of the song’s title, Dandy Warhol singer Courtney Taylor-Taylor explained, “It started with a riff that either sounded like Misfits or Danzig and then got slowed down.”

He continued, “Over time, it became the working title that was just too good to replace.”

Taylor-Taylor delivers the verses in a deep sing-talk vocal, although not quite as deep as Glenn Danzig, and the dark lyrics serve as another tribute of sorts to the horror-punk icon. The tune starts out with the lines, “Some days it’s just so obvious/ Some days insidious/ But half the people alive today are/ Are fucking idiots.

Television can effectively embrace formulaic tropes as well as subvert expectations, with neither of these approaches being better than the other.

The '90s is a pivotal period of change for television that welcomed in more genre series and ambitious network procedurals that are still talked about today. The '90s is a home for some of the biggest TV shows of all time, but there are also specific types of series that present influential heroes. There are certain TV characters from the '90s that are impossible to forget, yet there are also plenty of underrated heroes who also deserve their due.

End Of The Road is a festival that keeps its promises. The cultured leftfield shindig – where croquet tournaments break out in forest glades and peacocks roam the trimmed lawns of Dorset’s Larmer Tree Gardens, unbothered by the experimental folk, rock, rap and electronic tomfoolery floating across the site – has been promising a weekend headlined by indie giants Pixies and Bright Eyes since 2020. Covid scuppered that event, and post-pandemic travel issues forced the 2021 bill to become more UK-based. But this year, Eotr puts its music where its mouth is at last, with plenty more curveballs thrown in to keep this crowd of discerning alternative music fans pleasingly off-balance.

The opening Thursday night bill is a brain-rattling case in point. On the main Woods Stage, LA’s Sudan Archives sets out to invent jig-hop, interspersing psychosexual ambient raps with ruined snippets of Irish folk played on the fiddle she brandishes throughout.

Pixies add a bit of late-night psychedelia to their alt-rock bona fides on their new song, “There’s a Moon On.” The track will appear on the group’s next album, Doggerel, out Sept. 30.

Over the course of “Mr. Robot’s” run, composer Mac Quayle has done a pretty effective job creating an eerie and ethereal (etheerieal?) backdrop to one man’s psychological self-sabotage. The ongoing trials of Elliot Alderson have been underscored by electronic-heavy instrumentals, highlighting the character in moments of triumph and moments of despair (more on that later).

As good as Quayle has been, the series has also benefited from a finely curated set of musical moments, with some of the most memorable “Mr. Robot” sequences bolstered by an impeccable soundtrack selected by music supervisors Amie Bond and Charlie Haggard. Some of these have been the numerous string of classical favorites used to set up Tyrell Wellick in various stages of upper-class crises. Others have drawn on electronic music icons that have influenced the show in more ways than one.

The first thing almost anyone will ask someone who has seen a new movie sequel, superhero or otherwise: "Is it better than the first?" By and large, it's an impossible question to answer, unless you're so in tuned with this person's taste that you feel comfortable enough in answering on their behalf. First: an admission of incompetence. The most interesting question to put to Sam Esmail, creator and showrunner of the best new series to come out of the Us this year, only came to me on my way out of the interview, while stood on the lushly carpeted staircase of the Mayfair hotel hosting the Mr Robot junket. It’s this: how does Esmail’s show square its anti-capitalist, anti-corporate themes with a Us home on an NBCUniversal channel owned by multi-billion dollar corporation, Comcast, and now a UK home on Amazon Prime? For most of its first season, "Mr. Robot" has been running a half-step ahead of current events, with so many public real-world hacks seeming practically like viral marketing for the USA drama. Last week, though, the intersection of art and life became truly unfortunate, when the on-camera murders of a TV reporter and cameraman in Virginia came uncomfortably close to a scene scheduled to air in that night's "Mr. Robot" season finale. Out of both sensitivity for the real victims, and perhaps a sense that no one would be able to watch that scene on that night without thinking only about Virginia, USA delayed the finale a week, finally airing it tonight. The 'crossover episode' is surprisingly rare in television and only happens thanks to a particular set of circumstances; usually involving shared writers-producers, and both shows airing on the same network.

Do you remember when Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel's narratives would often criss-cross? We can look forward to more of the same when The CW's Arrow is joined by The Flash - and there's also a crossover special due for Fox's Family Guy and The Simpsons.

However, the vast majority of TV shows will never have crossover episodes because the circumstances aren't right, or because it's frankly a terrible idea.

We're still one month away from Wes Anderson's eighth film The Grand Budapest Hotel, but the release of a new, cryptic clip with Bill Murray and Ralph Fiennes has fans of the director clamoring even more for the quirky film.

Kim Deal lasted 25 years in the Pixies, but her replacement Kim Shattuck put down her bass after only four months. Call us crazy, but it seems like Wes Anderson has been getting a fair amount of special attention lately. In the past two months, there’s been a new book released chronicling his career in movies, there’s this short film he made with Jason Schwartzmann, his animated film “Fantastic Mr. Fox” is getting a Criterion Collection release, SNL recently did a parody of his films, and of course, his next film “The Grand Budapest Hotel” is just on the horizon (trailer here). Legendary Alternative rock band Pixies formed in Boston in 1986, comprising of front man Black Francis, Joey Santiago on guitars, bass player Kim Deal, and drummer David Lovering on drums. The 4 albums they released before their breakup in 1993 have gone down in history as some of the most influential albums in Alt-Rock history.

They’re noteworthy not just because of how good the music is, but how surrealist the bands lyrics are.
