Even as he ages into his 30s, actor Calum Worthy might forever have that youthful air that brings us back to simpler, pre-covid times. Remember the days of Disney Channel's hit series Austin & Ally, in which he co-starred across its four seasons? That cheery perplexity he brought to the YA show was perfect for his next big TV project: Netflix's Peabody Award-winning parody-crime series, American Vandal. Two years later, Worthy would star in another crime-centric show, though much more vain in nature: Hulu's The Act, where he starred alongside the Emmy-nominated Joey King.

And now there's Sew Torn, Worthy's latest starring vehicle where criminals also run amok in a uniquely disjointed narrative. MovieWeb recently caught up with Worthy while he was promoting the new indie film, and the vibrant actor took time to reflect on his past crime-laced series as well — and the unlikely connection between Vandal and The Act.

Macdonald nestles Run Lola Run’s loop-like structure inside a cozy crime thriller, the type that’s more intimate and self-contained in scale and comes heavily armed with a sense of whimsy. Thread-slingers with an addiction to YouTube tutorials (like me) may have seen an amusing film by seamstress/historian Bernadette Banner in which she reacts to a bunch of films that feature actors sewing, or at least pretending to sew. Examples include How the Grinch Stole Christmas (not convincing) to The Phantom Thread. Each one is picked apart with waspish scrutiny by Banner, who can spot the difference between a vintage treadle-operated chain stitch machine and a lockstitch machine from different periods in the 19th-century. Hopefully Banner will get a chance to scrutinise this loosely sewing-themed thriller and nitpick its faux pas, such as the bit where the seamstress protagonist Barbara (Eve Connolly) seems to sew a button on a client’s wedding dress in less than a minute.

Sunrise will release the film in theaters and digital platforms this summer.

In an interview published Thursday, Knoxville spoke to Vulture about the comedy from series creator Steven Levitan that was canceled last month after its eight-episode first season premiered in September. The satirical showbiz sitcom “Reboot” will not return for a second season, the show’s creator Steve Levitan said on Twitter Monday night. It’s apparent confirmation that the search for a new home following the show’s cancellation on Hulu has failed.

Hulu declined to renew the show late last month, and at the time Levitan was hopeful of finding a new home for his show on another network or streamer. In his statement Monday, posted on his Twitter account, Levitan also took a subtle dig against Hulu and how the streamer treated the show.

Following the recent cancellation of the series by Hulu, Levitan and producing studio 20th Television tried to find another home. There are finished scripts, produced by a writers room that had worked on a potential second season, which were sent to potential buyers. Those efforts have now been exhausted, and Reboot if officially over. Levitan alluded to that in a Twitter post Monday.

“Well, that seems to be a wrap on Reboot,” he wrote. “Very proud of our amazing cast and crew and what we did together.”

News of Reboot‘s cancellation at Hulu was met with obvious frustration from co-star Johnny Knoxville, who called the axing “pretty unbelievable” in a social media post on Monday.

“It’s with a heavy heart that I say that despite getting great reviews and being nominated for a critics choice award @hulu has failed to pick up Reboot even for a second season. Pretty unbelievable,” Knoxville wrote in an Instagram caption. “Working on this show has been one of the great highlights of my life, and I wanted to thank @stevelevitan and the entire stellar cast for allowing me to be part of this show.

Johnny Knoxville has responded to Hulu’s decision to scrap Reboot after just one season.

The meta-comedy from creator Steven Levitan – his first project since Modern Family – ironically followed Hulu’s decision to reboot its former hit 2000s sitcom Step Right Up, forcing the cast to reconcile and settle their unresolved issues.

Knoxville starred alongside Judy Greer, Keegan-Michael Key and Calum Worthy as the show’s original cast, with Rachel Bloom as the millennial writer behind the reboot idea.

The first and only season of the series consisted of eight episodes and debuted on the streamer on Sept. 20, 2022.

The lot of the show began with Hulu deciding to reboot a popular 2000s sitcom called “Step Right Up,” forcing the cast to reunite and confront their unresolved issues.

The series starred Keegan-Michael Key, Johnny Knoxville, Judy Greer, and Calum Worthy as the show’s original cast members, Rachel Bloom as the millennial writer looking to reboot the show, Paul Reiser as the show’s original creator, and Krista Marie Yu as a former tech exec now working at Hulu tasked with overseeing the reboot.

“Reboot” was created by Steve Levitan, with the show marking his first project since the ending of “Modern Family” in 2020 after eleven seasons.

Levitan also served as executive producer and showrunner on “Reboot.

Hulu has opted not to renew the showbiz sitcom “Reboot” for a second season, the streamer said Monday.

The Party Down gang is back for seconds in the first full trailer teasing the Starz comedy’s long-awaited return.

In the footage released Thursday ahead of the Feb. 24 launch, Adam Scott reprises his role as actor-bartender Henry Pollard, who finds himself unexpectedly reuniting a decade later with his former co-workers from the Party Down catering team. The series, which has built a cult following, concluded its original two-season run in June 2010.

“This is not how I envisioned my 40s,” Scott tells a fellow member of the crew in the trailer.
