Swizz Beatz is anything but “Banned from TV.”
The hip-hop super producer has run a successful side hustle as an executive music producer on series like Godfather of Harlem (Epix/MGM+) and the short-lived ABC drama Queens, which should be best-remembered for the incredible beat Beatz made for lead single, “Nasty Girl.”
As The Hollywood Reporter previous reported, Swizz Beatz (real name Kasseem Daoud Dean) and Godfather of Harlem showrunner Chris Brancato have formalized their creative partnership. The duo also collaborated on Hotel Cocaine (MGM+) and are working together on upcoming MGM+ gang drama The Westies.
Right now, the standout track for Godfather of Harlem season four is “Danger, Danger,” which was not only produced by Swizz Beatz, but also features him as a rapper alongside Pusha T and the legendary Jadakiss. Now in its 43rd year, the Clive Davis Pre-Grammy Gala is famously the music industry’s hottest ticket, an invite-only affair held the night before the Grammy Awards and loaded with the kind of A-list guest list that only Davis could assemble. Organized by Davis with his son, attorney Doug Davis, it’s legendary as a platform for exclusive superstar performances — over the past few years we’ve seen everyone from Mary J. Blige to Barry Manilow sing — and also a rite of passage for younger artists ranging from Chance the Rapper to Alicia Keys. At last year’s event, Jay-z was the honoree (and was feted with a solo medley of his hits delivered by Keys) and Davis announced that Jennifer Hudson had signed on to star in a forthcoming biopic on Aretha Franklin. Hudson then delivered a medley of Franklin’s hits before the singer herself, who was...

Idris Elba has been cast as Macavity in the upcoming Cats movie. Elba is reportedly in final negotiations to portray the villain in the big screen adaptation of the iconic Broadway show. Macavity is known as The Napoleon of Crime and the Mystery Cat in both the Broadway show and T.S. Eliot's Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats, which is the source material. Macavity is a large role and will feature the singing voice of Elba, who has a background in music, having released some singles and EPs over the last handful of years.
Idris Elba is also playing the villain in the Fast and Furious spin-off Hobbs & Shaw with Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham, which is currently filming. Cats will mark the second time in the last few years that Elba has portrayed a feline villain character, after playing Shere Khan in Jon Favreau's live-action take on The Jungle Book.
