Academy Award® winner Robert Nagle has been drawn to speed and performance driving since age six, when he began taking his Big Wheel over jumps. His passion for mechanics and speed led him to careers as both an engineer and race car driver, and now Artist. Born in Germany and raised in the U.S., with time in Greece and Iran due to his stepfather's engineering career, Nagle was a curious child driven to master new skills.
Initially competing in drag racing, he shifted to road racing while studying race car engineering under Kent Fisk at Chaffey College. Inspired by fellow drivers working in the film industry, he transitioned to Hollywood, where he quickly became a leading stunt driver and coordinator, blending technical expertise with creative storytelling.
Over the past two decades, Nagle has been a stunt driver, coordinator, and action writer/director for more than 100 major films and TV series, including Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation, The Fast and the Furious series, The Dark Knight Rises, Drive, Collateral, Miami Vice, Ford V Ferrari, and Ferrari. His recent work includes Gran Turismo and an upcoming Paul Thomas Anderson project, and Crime 101.
Nagle's contributions have earned him 14 Screen Actors Guild Award nominations and a Taurus World Stunt Award for along with two other nominations for Best Work with a Vehicle. He has also trained industry stars such as Christian Bale, Michael Mann, Colin Farrell, Ryan Gosling, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Academy Award® winner Jamie Foxx, just to name a few. As a stunt coordinator and second unit director, he has redefined complex vehicle sequences, setting new standards for action filmmaking.
Beyond Hollywood, Nagle has driven for Top Gear and the groundbreaking Mill BLACKBIRD, a fully adjustable car rig for CGI vehicle work. Despite the risks of his profession, he's had minimal injuries, sustaining only a broken thumb during a NASCAR commercial.
Looking forward, Nagle aspires to direct car commercials and feature films, leveraging his deep passion for cars and on-camera visual storytelling, inspired by his collaborations with A-List Directors and Producers. Given his track record, success in this next chapter seems inevitable.
