Star Jones to Serve as Judge on ‘Divorce Court’ This Fall (TV News Roundup)
Image
Fox announced that lawyer, journalist and former “The View” co-host Star Jones has been appointed judge of the first-run syndicated series “Divorce Court,” starting in September.

As television’s longest running court show, “Divorce Court” dates back to the late 1950’s, when actors used to reenact actual divorce proceedings. Today, the program features real people and real cases — ranging from divorce court proceedings to other domestic disputes.

Judge Faith Jenkins will continue through the end of Season 23 and Jones will join for Season 24. Jones, a former assistant district attorney in New York and former legal correspondent on NBC’s “Today Show,” “Nightly News” and more, said that she will “offer the parties before ‘Divorce Court,’ as well as viewers, a no-nonsense approach to the law and a decision driven by my proven legal expertise, compassion and empathy, personal experiences and hard-earned common sense.”

“Divorce Court” is produced by Lincolnwood Productions...

"The answer's not always laid out..." Rlje Films has debuted a new trailer for a mystery pandemic horror-thriller titled Terror Lake Drive, from filmmaker Jerry Lamothe. The film, originally created as a mini-series for the Urban Movie Channel (Umc) last year, is also being released in the US as one long (3 hour) feature film. In the midst of a recent pandemic and calls for social distancing, a single mother sets her sights on starting a new life and relocates to Atlanta, but quickly discovers she can't outrun her past. Of course. Starring Shannon Kane, Donielle T. Hansley Jr., Malik Yoba, and Lamaan Rucker. It's a bit odd to see this rebranded as a feature film in this new trailer, but it might play a bit better as one long film. Maybe? Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for Jerry Lamothe's Terror Lake Drive, direct from YouTube: On the heels of a recent pandemic,...

Filmmaker Jerry Lamothe (Blackout, Amour Infinity) has released his award winning short film The Tombs, online, for all to watch. This, in celebration of his birthday (which was actually yesterday). The writer/director also publicly expressed his interest in directing the long-in-development Tupac biopic, which Antoine Fuqua was previously attached to helm, but later stepped away from. "It's certainly something I would like to campaign and be considered for. I seldom (if ever) pursue work-for hire gigs, and frankly, rarely ever care to. But this project in particular, I've been following it for a long time. I definitely wouldn't mind being on their short list, and sharing...

Thoughts on Jerry Lamothe's Impressive Film Debut 'Amour Infinity'
Jerry Lamothe's feature film Amour Infinity - A Brooklyn Love Story, a moving & tragic love story, celebrated its 13th anniversary screening of its debut last evening at Mist (My Image Studios) in Harlem. Curtis Ceasar John, who was present to host the event on behalf of ActNow Foundation, interviewed Lamothe for S&A in this insightful piece Here, which you should read if you haven't. Unbeknownst to me - last night was the first time of me seeing the film - Amour is something of an underground cult classic. And well deservedly so. I didn't know what to expect, especially for a first film. I've seen plenty of those and it's seldom that one comes across one as well crafted, directed...

Louis C.K. On Why He Cast A Black Actress To Be The Mother Of His White Kids In 'Louie;' But Who Is She?
Update 4:30Pm: First, in response to my question below about who the actress is, Alison Willmore over at the mothership (indieWIRE) got the answer. The actress' name is Susan Kelechi Watson (photo with C.K. above). Not familiar? Neither was I, so I looked up her IMDb profile and saw that she's done a lot of TV, with parts in shows like The Good Wife, NCIS, Private Practice, and others. She's also done some work in film (she was in Jerry Lamothe's Blackout in 2007). Secondly, in Alison's piece, C.K. talked specifically about Watson's casting and the fact that she's black, stating: To me, the racial thing is like -- when people probably first see...

Why Are You a Casting Director?
Lori WymanLori Wyman Casting, North Miami Beach, Fla.; Florida casting for 'Burn Notice,' 'The Glades,' 'Dolphin Tale,' 'Recount'i actually started out as an assistant in a talent agency. I remember trying to get a local casting director to see an actor. She fought me on it, and finally she saw him and he booked the job. That's when I knew I wanted more of a hand in the actual casting process. I left the agency business and started working in a busy casting director's office before I broke out on my own.I love actors. They're spontaneous and fun and playful. I'm more business, so they help me balance out. I have an excellent memory for names and faces. When I'm casting a project, I have to search the hard drive of my brain to reach for certain actors, and I love having to do that.
