While still in the construction phase, the new Netflix campus in New Jersey might want to dedicate a bit more square footage to its trophy case.

On Tuesday morning, Netflix received 120 nominations for the 2025 Emmy Awards. That’s a ton, only outdone by the combination of HBO and Max (now HBO Max, again) — so first place may be a bit up for debate. This is all temporary anyway: Bela Bajaria vs. Casey Bloys (and maybe Matt Cherniss) won’t really be decided until Sept. 14.

“I would say I’m making like a Chick-fil-a worker that works full time,” former Dallas Cowboys cheerleader Katherine Puryear tells viewers during the first episode of Netflix’s latest docuseries hit America’s Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders.

The former professional cheerleader, a commentator throughout the series, offered the explanation after being asked point-blank how much she made during the gig, a topic of conversation throughout the episode. Last weekend, Puryear took to her TikTok page to expand on the discussion. (At the time of publishing, the video had over seven million views on TikTok.)

The video starts with the scene mentioned and an onscreen caption that says, “Clearing some things up,” with a blushing, hand-over-mouth emoji. “Ok, here’s my spiel,” Puryear begins before offering to break down her pay as a Cowboys cheerleader. She does, however, note that she can’t get into too many specifics.

Today, Netflix announced that the series America’s Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders will premiere this summer on the streaming service. The series follows the 2023-24 Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders squad from start to finish — kicking off at auditions and training camp and continuing all the way through the NFL season.

From Emmy Award-winning director Greg Whiteley and the team behind Cheer and Last Chance U, the seven-episode series will give viewers unfiltered access to this iconic team and franchise.

Led by longtime director Kelli Finglass, the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders open their doors to document the personal stories behind the uniforms, revealing the drive, hustle, and drama among the cheerleaders and coaches. For many, making the team is a dream—but that’s only the beginning.

The Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders once again will be the subject of an unscripted series — this time at Netflix.

The streamer says its show, titled America’s Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, will premiere in the summer and counts Cheer and Last Chance U’s Greg Whiteley among its executive producers (he also directs). The Netflix series will debut some two-and-a-half years after the long-running Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders: Making the Team ended after 16 seasons on CMT.

Where the latter show often had the structure of a competition series, America’s Sweethearts — at least based on a brief teaser — looks to bring more of a polished, behind-the-scenes feel to its seven episodes. The show will chronicle the 2023-24 season for the cheerleaders and will “document the personal stories behind the uniforms,” according to Netflix’s description.

Vue International is planning a further shift into non-English language direct distribution following the release of black-and-white Italian comedy drama There’s Still Tomorrow, according to CEO Tim Richards.

”We’re going to start bringing in Polish films, German films, Dutch films and Danish films as well,” said Richards, talking today at The Leisure Property Forum held at the Vue West End in London. ”We know there’s a market here, particularly this year when there are fewer films being released.”

British Equity has struck a three-year agreement with the Independent Theatre Council (Itc) that will give British theater workers better pay, as the UK’s cost of living crisis continues.

Terms of the new pact will see pay and other financial provisions on the minimum daily and weekly rates rise 5% every year between 2024 and 2027 for performers, stage management and choreographers.

The new Ethical Manager Agreement (Ema) is primarily designed to offset commuting costs, living away allowance and daily meal allowances.

In effect, the agreement means minimum weekly salaries will be £572.25 ($725.88) in the 2024/25 financial year, £600.86 in 2025/26 and £630.90 in 2026/27. It builds on an one-off, one-year Ema for 2023/24 that will saw a 10% increase in minimum weekly salaries and 20% uptick on minimum daily fees.

Directors and designers are covered by a one-year 2024/25 agreement amounting to a 5% pay increase. Equity plans to negotiate further changes to the agreement later this year, for commencement in 2025.
