Director Darren Lynn Bousman talks 11-11-11, the insane supernatural happenings on the set, Mother's Day, The Barrens, and much more.

Director Darren Lynn Bousman burst onto the horror scene in 2005 with Saw II, which lead to the subsequent sequels Saw III and Saw IV. After leaving Jigsaw behind, the director made one of his passion projects, Repo! the Genetic Opera!, based on his 2006 short of the same name. The filmmaker is back with 11-11-11, which hits theaters nationwide on, of course, 11/11/11, i.e. November 11. The movie centers on an American man visiting Spain, who delves into the mysterious conspiracy of 11-11-11, when Heaven's 11th gate will reportedly open. I recently had the chance to speak with Darren Lynn Bousman over the phone about this horror tale, and here's what he had to say below.

How long has this idea been brewing in your head for, and when...

I'm a huge fan of religious horror (Exorcist, Omen, Ninth Gate) which is why I'm crazy excited for Rocket Releasing and Big Air Studios' 11-11-11, Darren Lynn Bousman's take at a Biblical apocalypse that opens on November 11. While most of the cool stuff has been kept in secret, the Gates of Hell have finally been opened as we've landed a handful of demonic imagery (and behind-the-scenes pics) that can be enjoyed after the break. Rocket Releaseing has unleashed the full theatrical trailer for Darren Lynn Bousman's insane looking horror film 11-11-11. I'm a sucker for horror films like this, so I'll be checking it out when it's released. I just hope it turns out to be good. This trailer isn't as crazy as some of the previous trailers that have been released.

That story is about an author (played by Timothy Gibbs) who heads to Barcelona to reunite with his family after a tragic event. Once there, he begins to fully explore how the number "11" is consistently a piece of events in his life. Seeking council within the church, he finds out that, if someone is trying to tell him something, it's not a good thing. Oh, and look at the calendar. Guess what date tomorrow is? Darren Lynn Bousman's forthcoming 11-11-11 looks like it drops dead center into the wicked world of numerology, evil conspiracies and religious espionage -- everything that's awesome on film. A new teaser trailer for writer-director Darren Bousman's (Saw II, III & IV) latest horror thriller, 11-11-11, is now online. The story follows author Joseph Crone (Timothy Gibbs) as he travels from the U.S. to Spain to reunite with his estranged brother (Michael Landes) and dying father (Denis Rafter) following the death of his wife and child. When Joseph begins to see the number 11 repeated all around him, he begins to investigate and soon discovers that the number portends the arrival of an entity from another dimension. We’ve already seen one teaser trailer released for 11-11-11 by director Darren Lynn Bousman (Saw 2, Saw 3, Saw 4). Now that the film has finished shooting, we’ve got ourselves a brand new teaser trailer that’s a bit more official this time around (that first one we saw was cut together by the director himself). The idea of the film can be compared to The Number 23 and The Knowing, which is basically the numbers “11-11-11″ are going to cause a catastrophic things to happen. Basically it’s your typical apocalyptic thriller type flick. I must say I wasn’t too excited for this film when we first heard about it, and that first teaser trailer didn’t do much for me either. But this new trailer is great. I’ve also heard some good things about the film from the few screenings of it there have been.

While Darren Bousman's 11-11-11 interests me a lot more than his long lost Mother's Day remake (I just caught The Stepfather on Movie Central and I can't imagine it being much better) these teaser are still not exactly blowing my mind. Having said that, I like the supernatural apocalyptic premise a lot and the idea of a gate opening to another, perhaps demonic, dimension.

While we have no idea when Darren Lynn Bousman's latest film Mother's Day will be released [1], there's no doubt about his next one. The movie whose title is its release date [2], 11-11-11, just finished shooting and is currently in post-production. Though the apocalyptic, psychological thriller about the numbers 11:11 has yet to find domestic distribution, it shouldn't be too difficult considering the built in release date, a complete lack of new horror films coming out after Halloween and this awesome teaser trailer. If you've been following along with Darren Bousman's blog, you already know that the filming of his next movie, 11 11 11, has been ... well ... eventful to say the least. The weirdness continues.

In a conversation with Bousman on Twitter, cinematographer Joseph White talks about some of the unexplained things they caught on camera.

"[Darren Bousman] just showed me some footage from 11-11-11 - something strange happening in the background of a shot that I cant explain...," writes White. "Like I was there - and there's something happening in the windows of the house - which was empty - that I didn't see on set."

We're not going to bore you with details on the sales to territories like Turkey and Israel, but word from the Efm in Berlin is that Epic Pictures is close to locking a distribution deal for Darren Lynn Bousman's 11-11-11 here in the States. The religious thriller was promised to be released November 11, 2011, so we'll see if they can't deliver on those ambitions. Anyways, the main reason we're even writing a story is to share with you the first "cool" image from the film starring Timothy Gibbs, Michael Landes, Wendy Glenn, Lluis Soler, Ángela Rosal, Brendan Price, Salomé Jimenez, Benjamin Cook and Montse Alcoverro. Diving deep into religion and conspiracy theories, 11-11-11 tells the tale of a coming apocalypse in the four days leading up to that date.

Gearing up for the Efm in Berlin, we just got our grubber little mitts on the first ever images from Darren Lynn Bousman's latest genre film, 11-11-11, which is currently lensing in Spain for release here in the States on November 11, 2011 (yeah, yeah!) The images give us a taste and a feel for the "look" of the religious thriller, but it doesn't share anything too revealing. I can't wait to see the backbone show itself. Timothy Gibbs, Michael Landes, Wendy Glenn, Lluis Soler, Ángela Rosal, Brendan Price, Salomé Jimenez, Benjamin Cook, Montse Alcoverro all star in the flick that will take on the idea of 11 gates of Heaven and how on 11:11 on the 11th day of the 11th month, the 11th gate will open up and something from another world will enter the earthly realm for 49 minutes.

I wish that Bousman would stop acting a spooky fool on his blog and get to filming, maybe then we can get something better than “hi-def concept art”. Sure the drawings are awesome, but I want to see some actual images of the locations he’s shooting.
