Hank Hill Fawns Over the Worst Presidential Museum in America in ‘King of the Hill’ Teaser
Image
Hulu recently shared the first clip of the upcoming King of the Hill reboot. But it doesn’t take place in Hank and Peggy’s house. Or at Strickland propane. Or even in the Chuck Mangione-infested Mega Lo Mart.

Nope, the scene is set entirely inside the George W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum, where Hank drools over the former commander-in-chief’s possessions, including a World Series ball and presidential pen. But there’s a big issue with this – even apart from the fact that Hank’s opinion of Bush soured 25 years ago when he received a “limp” handshake from the presidential candidate.

While the locale is presented as lame and boring in the King of the Hill clip, in real life, the Bush museum is deeply messed up. The “$250 million complex” features numerous eyebrow-raising exhibits that are arguably a concerted effort to sanitize the president’s horrific legacy.

Jon Stewart Calls Out Normalization Of Violence In The U.S., Says Our Sole Concern Is “Whose Side The Perp Belongs To”
Image
In a lengthy episode for The Daily Show, Jon Stewart waded through the sheer slog of violence over the weekend, including Israel’s strike against Iran and the shooting of two Minnesota lawmakers.

“But let me just say this to start off: F—! Just to start off,” the host began. “This weekend — terrible! Again. I’m so sorry.”

Addressing the wildly differing responses by ultra-right-wing pundits against U.S. involvement in the Middle East and pro the “invasion” of Los Angeles in the wake of (largely mild) anti-ice protests, Stewart noted, “The only problem with their posture — that I see with it — is their reluctance to commit the American military to fighting drawn-out and often pointless wars doesn’t seem to extend to America.”

He added, “The Maga mindset appears to be: We didn’t vote for foreign wars, we voted for civil war.”

“They are looking for any pretense...

Merkel Review: Portrait of a Pragmatic Powerhouse
Image
Angela Merkel at Harvard in 2019 delivers a crisp appeal to dismantle walls—an image set against footage of Donald Trump rallying for his Mexican border barrier. This bold contrast frames Eva Weber’s documentary, Merkel, as both a portrait of a leader and a meditation on freedom.

Directed by a German-born filmmaker based in London, the film blends archival speeches, childhood anecdotes and on-camera testimonials to trace Merkel’s path from the Gdr to the world stage. Sprinkled with interviews from figures as varied as Tony Blair, Susan Rice and filmmaker Volker Schlöndorff, it balances intimate recollection with geopolitical analysis.

In what follows, this review will explore how Merkel captures the interplay between personal history and global power, assesses the effectiveness of its visual storytelling, and considers the cultural forces shaping its subject’s legacy—all through a lens that connects regional history with international resonance.

Why Adult Swim's The Boondocks Reboot Was Canceled
Image
Aaron McGruder's comic strip "The Boondocks" first appeared in 1996 in the pages of The Diamondback, the school newspaper of the University of Maryland. McGruder attended U of M, graduating with a degree in African American Studies. "The Boondocks" followed the life and experiences of a 10-year-old big-city Chicago boy named Huey and his brother Riley, who have to go live with their grandfather in the suburbs of Maryland. Huey, like McGruder, was sharply aware of the fineries of Black culture and the way it was commonly misused by corporate America. Riley, meanwhile, loved gangsta rap culture and sought the wealth and conspicuous consumption featured in so many rap videos. Both kids butted heads with their grandfather, who, being a WWII veteran and former civil rights activist, had a perspective all his own.

"The Boondocks" was assertively political, which was refreshing in the funny pages. McGruder tried to partner with several distribution syndicates,...

MSNBC’s New Weekend Primetime Quartet Has Already Started a Conversation
Image
MSNBC’s new Saturday and Sunday primetime panel, “The Weekend,” won’t kick off until later this month, but the show’s four hosts just got their first chance to chew over their plans.

At first glance, Ayman Mohyeldin, Elise Jordan, Catherine Rampell and Antonia Hylton don’t seem to have too much in common. Each has a distinctive background that is unlike the others. Hylton gained traction working for upstart news outlets including Mic and Vice.com before joining NBCUniversal. Rampell has made a name for herself not only for economic analysis at The Washington Post but also as a frequent talk-show contributor to everything from CNN’s “News Night” to HBO’s “Real Time.” Mohyeldin first began to emerge at NBC News delivering reports last decade from the Middle East. And Jordan has worked for Senator Rand Paul and former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.

NAACP Image Awards: Dave Chappelle, the Wayans Family Named Special Honorees
Image
Updated: The Wayans Family will be inducted into the NAACP Hall of Fame at the 56th NAACP Image Awards ceremony on Feb. 22.

George W. Bush Has No Plans To Endorse Presidential Candidate In 2024 Election
Image
Former President George W. Bush has no plans to endorse a presidential candidate this cycle, despite the fact that Dick Cheney, who was his vice president, said that he will vote for Kamala Harris.

His office told NBC News, “President Bush retired from presidential politics years ago.”

Bush did not endorse in the 2020 election, but later told People magazine that he wrote in the name of Condoleeza Rice, who served as his secretary of state. In 2016, Bush left the presidential ballot blank, according to his spokesperson. His father, President George H.W. Bush, voted for Hillary Clinton that cycle, according to the the book The Last Republicans.

Cheney released a statement on Friday in which he said that “there has never been an individual who is a greater threat to our republic than Donald Trump. He tried to steal the last election using lies and violence to keep himself in power...

Updated, with Cheney statement & Kamala Harris statement: Former Vice President Dick Cheney will be voting for Kamala Harris in the November election, his daughter Liz Cheney said today. The announcement by the former Wyoming Congresswoman was soon followed by confirmation by the ex-vp himself, and then follow up with words of thanks by the current vice president.

“Dick Cheney will be voting for Kamala Harris,” Liz Cheney said at the Texas Tribune Festival, where she was participating in a Q&a with The Atlantic’s Mark Leibovich.

Her father later released a statement, saying that “there has never been an individual who is a greater threat to our republic than Donald Trump. He tried to steal the last election using lies and violence to keep himself in power after the voters had rejected him. He can never be trusted with power again.”

“I have to tell you, it has been an experience,” says Maya Rudolph upon being asked about the mounting calls from the public, since Joe Biden’s July 21 announcement that he will not be seeking reelection, for her to reprise her Saturday Night Live impersonation of presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris, who she previously portrayed on the show in 2019, 2020 and 2021.

Speaking exclusively to The Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter podcast in front of an audience at the San Vicente Bungalows in West Hollywood, Rudolph, who is currently nominated for four Emmys — best comedy guest actress and best original music/lyrics for NBC’s SNL, best comedy actress for Apple TV+’s Loot and best character voiceover for Netflix’s Big Mouth — continued: “My phone has not stopped. Why Michelle Obama Had A Cameo On NCIS
Image
Michelle Obama appeared on NCIS as herself in Season 13, Episode 22. Obama's cameo promoted the charity Joining Forces for military families. NCIS often balances fiction and reality in portraying the federal government.

Michelle Obama once appeared on NCIS as herself. The police procedural giant is no stranger to occasionally dipping its toes into storylines that involve political figures. NCIS's first episode, "Yankee White," started with a television recording of the actual President George W. Bush. Moments later, Bush was portrayed aboard Air Force One by the American actor, comedian, and impressionist Steve Bridges, who was known for his impressions of political figures such as Bush and Bill Clinton. That said, Michelle Obama appeared as herself on NCIS.

The First Lady's appearance underlines the pseudo-fictional reality that NCIS engineers. With the franchise now preparing for NCIS season 22, the series has been on the air for over two decades. It was...

‘Saturday Night Live’ Crowns Maya Rudolph as “Mother” in Mother’s Day-Centric Opening
Image
It was all about mothers at the top of this week’s pre-Mother’s Day Saturday Night Live.

The variety show dispensed with its typical topical cold open for one that featured SNL castmembers sharing moments with their moms.

Kenan Thompson kicked off the show, appearing on the Studio 8H stage with his mom because, he said, “it’s “Mother’s Day in about 29 minutes,” which, she declared, meant there was still “plenty of time to buy a gift.”

“With so many upsetting stories in the world right now, we thought we’d take a break from a regular cold open and hear some heartwarming stories from our moms instead.”

Still Thompson’s mom said she wanted to see who would play Stormy Daniels in a cold open focused on the porn star’s testimony in former President Donald Trump’s criminal trial. That wasn’t the only reference to...

Why Alec Baldwin's 30 Rock Spin-off Never Made It Off the Ground Floor
Image
Jack Donaghy's character from 30 Rock was almost the star of a spin-off series, ultimately replaced by Ted Danson in Mr. Mayor. 30 Rock's spin-off idea faced challenges with Baldwin dropping out and low ratings, leading to Mr. Mayor being canceled after two seasons. Despite fan enthusiasm for a Donaghy-centered show, NBC's comedies have struggled to match past viewer numbers in recent years.

When one thinks of iconic sitcoms of the 2000s and early 2010s, 30 Rock almost always comes to mind at the top of the list. From the mind of Tina Fey, the series was loosely based on her time as head writer on Saturday Night Live. Alec Baldwin, Tracy Morgan, Jack McBrayer, Jane Krakowski, and many more rounded out the eclectic cast. Though the series struggled in the ratings over its seven-season run, it remained a critical and audience darling until the end. The...

Mark Wahlberg Joins ESPN’s ‘Manningcast’ As His ‘Invincible’ Philadelphia Eagles Take On The Kansas City Chiefs
Image
Exclusive: Mark Wahlberg is the latest Hollywood notable to be added to the guest list of ESPN’s Manningcast, the alternate Monday Night Football telecast hosted by Peyton and Eli Manning.

The actor and producer will appear tonight, with former NFL quarterback Michael Vick and Iowa basketball standout Caitlin Clark also on the docket. The game between the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs is a rematch of last February’s Super Bowl.

Although Wahlberg’s loyalty to the New England Patriots remains intact, one of his acting credits makes him a logical person to weigh in on tonight’s contest. In the 2006 film Invincible, Wahlberg portrayed Vincent Papale, a real-life figure from Eagles lore. Papale became a local sports legend after managing the unlikely feat of winning a chance to play for the Eagles after impressing coaches at an open tryout in 1976.

This is the third season of Omaha Productions’ Manningcast.

Carly Reeves
Tom Hank’s niece Carly Reeves broke down into a tearful tantrum after becoming the first contestant eliminated Monday on ABC’s reality series “Claim to Fame.”

During Season 2’s inaugural guess-off segment, where participants have the opportunity to choose a contestant and guess their “claim to fame,” Reeve’s fellow contestant Hugo correctly identified her Oscar-winning uncle thanks to a clue wall that included the iconic “Forrest Gump” park bench. Shocked and confused, Reeves angrily expressed her disappointment in leaving on Episode one — and in Hugo, who she said she helped with clues.

‘Fox & Friends First’ Drags Don Lemon for Self-Identifying as ‘The Arbiter of the Truth’: ‘It’s Pretty Laughable’ (Video)
Don Lemon
In a development that may not be all that surprising, Don Lemon doesn’t seem to have many fans over at Fox News.

On Monday morning’s installment of “Fox & Friends First,” cohost Carley Shimkus and guest Beverly Hallberg broke down the former “CNN This Morning” anchor’s first interview since his firing, slamming the journalist for positioning himself as what Hallberg deemed “the arbiter of the truth.”

Norbit Cast & Character Guide
Image
This article contains discussions/references to prejudice, racism, and misogyny

Although Norbit was full of controversial characters, it did have several talented stars among its cast list. Released in 2007, the movie follows the life of Norbit Rice, a mild-mannered man who is married to an abusive woman. While Norbit wants to end their marriage, he soon finds himself struggling to leave after he discovers his wife's family attempting to scam his childhood friend out of her business. The movie was seen to gross over $159 million worldwide (via Box Office Mojo), but wasn't received well by critics, who heavily criticized the movie for perpetuating racial stereotypes and misogynistic ideals (leading to a 9% rating on Rotten Tomatoes).

Given that the cast had an array of talented stars, such as Thandiwe Newton and Cuba Gooding Jr., it was hugely disappointing to see that the script didn't give them the opportunity to show the best of their abilities.

Angela Merkel
Stay-At-Home Seven - March 6 to 13 by Amber Wilkinson
Angela Merkel
Merkel Photo: Netflix

Merkel, Netflix

The former German chancellor’s life and career is brought to life with skill and speed in this documentary from Eva Weber. Angela Merkel spent three decades in politics - a large proportion of that at the top, no mean feat given that she was born behind the Berlin Wall in East Germany and worked as a physicist before her switch of career. Weber captures via archive interview and observations from the likes of Condoleeza Rice and Tony Blair, how Merkel’s studious nature was put to good advantage as she shaped herself for power. What also comes across strongly is her surprisingly pixieish sense of humour. Pacy and enjoyable.

‘The Corridors of Power’: Oscar nominee Dror Moreh returns with another riveting political documentary feature
Image
First nominated for Best Documentary Feature at the Oscars with the 2012 film “The Gatekeepers,” director Dror Moreh could return to the awards race 10 years later with “The Corridors of Power.” The new film from Showtime combines in-depth interviews with rare archival footage and CGI animations to examine how American leaders have responded to reports of genocide, war crimes and mass atrocities after the fall of the Soviet Union.

Among those interviewed are five figures who served as Secretary of State: James Baker, Madeleine Albright, Colin Powell, Condoleezza Rice and Hillary Clinton. In his review for The Washington Post, Michael O’Sullivan describes the effectiveness of the interviews: “The discussions that take place on camera, in tastefully appointed suites, are frank and often offer fascinating insights into these dilemmas. But it is the sharply jarring — and dismayingly repetitive — footage of carnage that will stay with you long after the echoes of the...

Telluride Review: Dror Moreh’s Documentary ‘The Corridors Of Power’
Image
An exceptional and, one might venture, unprecedented group of politicians, diplomats, policy wonks, elected officials and veteran Washington insiders expound on the effectiveness of international military intervention—and the lack thereof—in The Corridors of Power. Israeli director Dror Moreh made one of the great political documentaries of recent times in The Gatekeepers (2012), as well as the excellent The Human Factor (2019), and this time he has assembled an all-star cast of more than 30 political heavyweights including Henry Kissinger, Hilary Clinton, George Shultz, Madeleine Albright and Condoleeza Rice, who in deep, original interviews, help to build a picture of how and why the best intentions can come unglued. The film deserves to be seen in any and all venues by audiences interested in the state of the world and clarity about how we got here.

“You will have to find a new enemy,” Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Colin Powell...

Los Angeles Mayor Race: Karen Bass and Rick Caruso Will Face Off In General Election
Image
Click here to read the full article.

Rep. Karen Bass (D-Los Angeles) and billionaire local developer Rick Caruso are headed to a November run-off election for the Los Angeles mayoralty after the Associated Press called the race on Tuesday night. The top vote-getters in the open primary go on to face each other in the general election in November.

Their candidacies — which divided Hollywood loyalties during the open primary — each promised solutions for a city grappling with deep anxiety over homelessness, housing affordability and crime.

Two-time L.A. Mayor Eric Garcetti was termed out. His nomination to become U.S. Ambassador to India has been held for months in the Senate over allegations he knew about (and didn’t properly address) a top aide’s sexual misconduct. Bass would be the first female and second Black mayor in the city’s history. A win by Caruso, an outsider to elected...

The View (1997)
Elisabeth Hasselbeck, Meredith Vieira and Star Jones Will Guest on ‘The View’ in February
The View (1997)
As previously announced, “The View” is celebrating 25 years of intractable morning arguments between friends by inviting back former co-hosts to sit at the table, and three heavy hitters have just been announced for February, TheWrap has confirmed.

Elisabeth Hasselbeck and Meredith Vieira will be returning to the show years after leaving. They’ll be joined by Star Jones, who has already shown up to guest this season starting last September. They will each co-host next month, with Jones’ appearance set for Feb. 4.

Jones and Vieira were two of the show’s original hosts, sticking with the show from its launch in 1997 until both exited after the 9th season in 2006. Hasselbeck joined the show in Season 7 in 2003, and stuck around until 2013. She’s one of two successful attempts at having a long-running conservative co-host for the show, the other being Megan McCain, who quit last year.

McCain has since been replaced...

Whoopi Goldberg
Whoopi Goldberg Extends as ‘The View’ Host for Another 4 Years
Whoopi Goldberg
Whoopi Goldberg will remain with “The View” for at least four more years, TheWrap has learned.

The daytime series’ longtime host has signed a new four-year contract that will take her through its 28th season and the summer of 2025, according to an individual with knowledge of the deal. Financial details of the new contract are not known.

ABC declined to comment.

Goldberg just began her 15th season earlier this month. Her new contract comes as the ABC show has had numerous shuffles in front of the camera over the past few years. Meghan McCain was the most recent co-host to depart the show, which she did in August after four seasons. Sara Haines is in her second season after returning to “The View” last September to replace Abby Huntsman.

“The View” is currently filling McCain’s slot with a rotating cast of guest conservative co-hosts, which began with former Utah Congresswoman Mia Love.

Whoopi Goldberg To Remain On ‘The View’ After Striking New Deal
Image
Whoopi Goldberg has struck a multi-year deal to stay on The View.

The star has signed a deal that will see her continue on the daytime talkshow for four years, Deadline has confirmed.

The move means that she will stay through to at least season 28 of the show, which is currently in its 25th season.

She hosts the ABC show with Joy Behar, Sara Haines and Sunny Hostin.

Goldberg’s deal comes as The View is “taking a little time to fill the seat” left behind by Megan McCain and will instead welcome a line-up of conservative guest co-hosts in the coming months including Condoleezza Rice, Mia Love, Gretchen Carlson, and Alyssa Farah, among others.

McCain exited the longtime talk show in early August after serving on the panel since 2017. She noted at various points that her decision to leave the show was driven largely by her desire to spend...

Whoopi Goldberg is staying with “The View.”

Variety has confirmed with sources that the Oscar winner has signed a sizable new deal that will see her stay on the ABC daytime talk show for a further four years through its 28th Season. Season 25 of “The View” recently debuted on Sept. 7.

ABC declined to comment.

Goldberg has been with “The View” since 2007, making her one of the longest-tenured co-hosts in the show’s history. She currently sits on the panel of co-hosts that includes Joy Behar, Sara Haines, and Sunny Hostin.

Goldberg remains active as an actress in addition to hosting the series. 9/11 Documentaries Trace the Ramifications of the Shocking Attack
Image
Two decades after the 9/11 terrorist attacks on America, documentary filmmakers are still trying to make sense of the horrific events — even as aftereffects continue to ripple through the geopolitical landscape.

The U.S. military’s withdrawal from Afghanistan has renewed political debate over the invasion launched in the wake of the 2001 attacks as conspiracy theories about 9/11 permeate discourse about the events. In a measure of how fraught the subject remains, Spike Lee cut 30 minutes of 9/11 truther material from the fourth and final episode of his HBO documentary, “NYC Epicenters 9/11-2021½,” after initially releasing it to the media for review and stoking further controversy by discussing his doubts in a New York Times interview about how the twin towers were destroyed.

Filmmakers and TV programmers acknowledge that these projects require delicate treatment — especially concerning graphic scenes of the attacks and their aftermath — but stress that 9/11 is an important topic to tackle.

Meghan McCain Lands Post-‘View’ Job As Online Daily Mail Columnist
Image
As ABC’s The View continues its first (and significantly quieter) week post-Meghan McCain, the show’s former conservative co-host has announced her latest gig: As a columnist for British tabloid DailyMail.com.

“Everything in my life these days is about going back to basics,” McCain tweeted today. “I started as a columnist & am thrilled at the chance to return to it @DailyMail.” In what could be a swipe at her former place of employment, McCain added, “I am so excited to work in a completely uncensored free space.”

McCain will be based in Washington, D.C., where she lives with husband Ben Domenech, publisher of the conservative news site The Federalist, and their daughter Liberty. When she left The View, reportedly with two years still on her contract, she cited her residence as a primary reason for the departure (the ABC daytime talk show resumed in-studio broadcasts this...
