While there are several classic films dedicated to the Halloween and Christmas holidays, those set during Thanksgiving are few and far between. Enter Jordan Weiss’ and Dan Brier’s Sweethearts starring Kiernan Shipka and Nico Hiraga, a hilarious holiday rom com that arrived on Max Nov. 28.

The film follows Jamie (Shipka) and Ben (Hiraga) as they realize, in their first semester of college, that they need to break up with their high school sweethearts Simon (Charlie Hall) and Claire (Ava DeMary) respectively because the relationships are holding them back. Their best friend Palmer (Caleb Hearon) offers to host a small soiré the night before Thanksgiving where they plan to break the news, but chaos ensues as a night of parties, absinthe, drugs and more combine to create a perfect storm of events.

“Sweethearts” does not disappoint in delivering college nostalgia and a party playlist to match.

Jordan Weiss, creator of “Dollface,” made her directorial debut with the Max original rom-com and said that her collaboration with co-writer Dan Brier mirrored the relationship between on-screen best friends, Jamie (Kiernan Shipka) and Ben (Nico Hiraga).

“There’s so many benefits to Dan [Brier], and I’s real life, male-female perspectives,” director and executive producer Jordan Weiss told TheWrap. “I love that our soundtrack had a mix of Tyler, The Creator and Carly Rae [Jepsen]. We both brought our own music tastes, and I think it helps it appeal to a broader audience.”

The Tony winner and Broadway staple star will co-lead upcoming movie musical “Song Sung Blue” with Hudson, who recently unveiled her debut album “Glorious.”

At the 2024 Republican National Convention, the cover band Sixwire set up shop covering rock classics, like Steely Dan’s “Reelin’ in the Years.” Now, Steely Dan themselves have responded to the performance, suggesting the band play Donald Fagen’s anti-Trump song, “Tin Foil Hat,” instead.

The pop musician’s take on “Dirty Work” appears at the end of Season 3 Episode 2, “Better Late,” and originated from King Princess’ friendship with series star Hannah Einbinder. If you thought season one of Hulu’s limited series Nine Perfect Strangers gave a new definition of locked up, there’s going to be plenty of cabin fever come season 2.

We caught up with the series star and EP Nicole Kidman last night on the red carpet for her AFI Life Achievement Award to ask how the next season is coming along.

“Swiss Alps And Crazy! Hold on tight!” exclaimed Kidman. She was talking about the series’ setting which switches up from the Tranquillum House retreat in the fictional town of Cabrillo, CA to the Swiss Alps. Kidman plays the wellness resort’s founder Masha Dmitrichenko who has it out for her guests by dispensing to them a psychoactive drug, namely Psilocybin. Masha is arrested, cradling her hallucinated late daughter in her arms. However, she appears to have beaten the rap as the Tranquillum House guests covered for her illegal actions during police interviews.

Three more have been added to the cast of the second season of Hulu's Nine Perfect Strangers. Variety revealed that Henry Golding, Mark Strong, and Lena Olin are joining Nicole Kidman, Murray Bartlett, Annie Murphy, Christine Baranski, Maisie Richardson-Sellers, Dolly De Leon, King Princess, Aras Aydin, and Lucas Englander in the new season.

The plot of season two has not been revealed, but the first season was based on Liane Moriarty's novel of the same name. In the story, Masha Dmitrichenko (Kidman) is the Russian founder of Tranquillum House, a wellness resort. Nine strangers from the city stay at the resort and discover things about their host and each other.

Created by David E. Kelley, the mystery-thriller series debuted in August 2021, and Hulu renewed the limited series in June 2023.

King Princess (aka Mikaela Straus) opened up about her experience meeting Christina Aguilera in the recording studio, and she said that it was an example of an encounter with a “mean” pop star.

The 25-year-old musician, best known for her breakout single “1950,” recently appeared on the Queer the Music podcast.

During her interview, she expressed appreciation for pop girls who aren’t afraid of getting a little nasty. When asked to provide an example, she readily recalled her encounter with Christina, which left a lasting impression.

Annie Murphy (Schitt’s Creek) and Christine Baranski (The Good Fight) have joined the cast of the Hulu spa dramedy’s sophomore season, TVLine has confirmed. (Our sister site Variety first reported the news.) No character details have been released yet, but we do have character names, at least: Murphy will play Imogen, while Baranski will play Victoria.

Emmy winners Annie Murphy (Schitt’s Creek) and Christine Baranski (The Gilded Age) have been tapped to star in the upcoming second season of Hulu’s Nine Perfect Strangers. Also set as series regulars in the new installment are Lucas Englander (Transatlantic) and musician King Princess in her acting debut.

They join previously unveiled cast members Murray Bartlett, Dolly de Leon (Triangle of Sadness), Maisie Richardson-Sellers (Undeclared War) and Aras Aydin.

The octet will play members of the new group of titular strangers opposite Nicole Kidman, who is finalizing a deal to return as star and executive producer.

Based on Big Little Lies author Liane Moriarty’s book, Nine Perfect Strangers hails from David E. Kelley, Bruna Papandrea’s Made Up Stories, Kidman’s Blossom Films and Fifth Season.

Murray Bartlett, Annie Murphy, and “The Good Fight” alum Christine Baranski have signed on to star in Season 2 of Hulu’s “Nine Perfect Strangers” as series regulars along with Dolly De Leon, Maisie Richardson-Sellers, King Princess, Aras Aydin and Lucas Englander.

Bartlett is set to portray Brian; Murphy and Baranski will take on the roles of Imogen and Victoria, respectively. Variety previously reported on Bartlett being in talks to star in June.

De Leon is attached to star as Agnes. Richardson-Sellers will portray Wolfie. Aydin will star as Matteo, and Englander will step into the role of Martin. In her acting debut, musician King Princess will play Tina. Additional character details have yet to be released.

Lew Palter, a veteran actor and teacher who portrayed Isidor Straus in James Cameron’s Titanic, has died at the age of 94.

Palter died on May 21st of lung cancer at his home in Los Angeles, his daughter told The Hollywood Reporter.

In Titanic, Palter portrayed Straus, a U.S. Congressman and co-owner of Macy’s department store. He and his wife, Ida, perished on the sinking ship after refusing to board a lifeboat because there were women and children who had yet to be saved. In one of the film’s final scenes, Palter’s character embraces his wife (played by Elsa Raven) in their stateroom as water rushes in.

Wendy Rush, the wife of OceanGate CEO Stockton Rush who died last week on a dive in a submersible to the wreck of the Titanic, is a great-great-granddaughter of the Strauses — as is the singer King Princess.
