The film festival is taking place July 5-11.

Lav Diaz’s A Tale Of Filipino Violence will make its world premiere as part of the international competition line-up of the FIDMarseille international film festival taking place in France from July 5-11.

Further world premieres in the selection include Sofia Bohdanowicz, Burak Çevik and Blake Williams’ A Woman Escapes and Spanish film Aftersun by Lluís Galter.

Atlantics director Mati Diop is the president of this year’s international jury which includes João Pedro Rodrigues.

FIDMarseille’s 33rd edition will screen 123 films, including 49 world premieres, of which 40 are by female filmmakers.

Online edition reportedly generated 280 one-on-one meetings.

FIDLab, the project development platform of France’s International Film Festival FIDMarseille, has unveiled the winners of its online edition which took place July 6-10.

The jury was comprised of Fiorella Moretti, founding co-chief of Paris-based sales company LuxBox; Matthijs Wouter Knol, the outgoing director of the European Film Market and Cannes Directors’ Fortnight delegate general Paolo Moretti. They awarded nine different in-kind prizes provided by 11 FIDlab partners to the mostly hybrid projects.

The shortlist for France’s Louis Delluc Prize, one of the country’s highest film honors, has been released with 14 films making the cut across two categories: Best Film and Best Debut Feature. Among the eight main movies, six hail from this year’s Cannes crop. Saint Laurent – which is France’s entry for the Foreign Language Oscar – by Bertrand Bonello; Olivier Assayas’ Juliette Binoche/Kristen Stewart-starrer Clouds Of Sils Maria; veteran Jean-Luc Godard’s 3D Goodbye To Language; Abderrahmane Sissako’s Timbuktu; Pascale Ferran’s Bird People, starring Josh Charles; and Claus Drexel’s Au Bord Du Monde will vie alongside Venice pics Trois Coeurs, by Benoît Jacquot, and Robin Campillo’s Eastern Boys. Alexander Payne’s Nebraska to close the 10-day festival in the Greek city.

The 54th Thessaloniki International Film Festival is set to kick off today with the gala presentation of Only Lovers Left Alive in the presence of director Jim Jarmusch.

Jarmusch will attend following several efforts to lure him to the festival in northern Greece.

Only Lovers Left Alive, which played in competition at Cannes, was executive produced by Greece’s Christos Konstantakopoulos of Faliro House Productions.

The festival will wrap on Nov 10 with Alexander Payne’s Nebraska, for which lead actor Bruce Dern won best actor at Cannes.

Greek-American Payne returns to the festival to present the film and will preside over the international jury.

A total of 14 titles make up the competition and the award for the Golden and Silver Alexander will be decided by a jury including Romanian producer Ada Solomon, Cannes Directors Fortnight head Edouard Weintrop, Variety chief critic...

Catalan director Albert Serra was the surprise winner of this year’s Golden Leopard in Locarno for a historical drama with a difference, Story Of My Death.

Described by Serra by as “a movie about the beauty of horror, and also about the horror of beauty,” Story Of My Death imagines an encounter between Casanova of 18th rationalism and Count Dracula from the romantic 19th century.

French co-producer Capricci Films is handling international sales on the Spanish-French co-production which will be screened in Toronto’s Wavelengths programme next month.
